26/9 Today we left on our 3 Day Italian Adventure. At the beginning of the trip Lia our guide had us play a game of speed dating to get to know one another it was the best fun, 90% of the group are form Sydney and I am the only Perth person. Our first stop of the day is Pompeii, somewhere that I have wanted to go to since I was a little girl. We had a 2 hour guided tour of the site of Pompeii, it was amazing you could really get a feel for how things were there and what it must have felt like for them on that day, Mt Vesuvius is there in the backgroud but looks so far away. After lunch we headed to Sorrento to the Campsite where we would ... read more

Do you want to wake up in the morning? I mean wide eyed & super allert? Then take a cab ride from our hotel in Naples to Statione Centrale. Excitement, exilleration, white nuckle fear are all words that come to mind when describing the 10 minute experience. The train ride to Sorrento was a comfortably uneventful trip which provided some quiet time to unwind after the cab ride. Every thing fell to pieces from Sorrento station on. We found our way out of the station. Easy. We found the kiosk to buy the tickets for the bus. Easy. The bus? Not so easy. We asked five different people, most of them bus drivers, and of course got five different answers as to which bus we should board. The helpful young lady from The Gap (yes Brisbane) ... read more

Tuesday 2nd September Naples...take two! Salerno, Positano We started out again for Naples and used the resident’s tickets we’d been advised to buy. There was a conductor on the bus and as soon as he looked at our cards, we knew we were in trouble. We’d agreed if there was any trouble, we’d avoid talking Italian and act the part of typical tourists. The most amusing part of this situation was that my parents and I were able to understand what was being said of us and had to keep a straight face. The conductor said he felt sorry for us because we obviously didn’t know anything!! There was an English girl who had gotten involved and was translating the conductor’s advice. A nearby passenger also got involved and were in a situation, where 3-4 Italians ... read more

Well we did actually make it to Sorrento. We arrived on the 12th and got picked up in Naples at the train station by this guy. He drove us to Sorrento which took us a while b/c of the traffic. Oh, and did I mention the heat?? He droove like a crazy person and we were scared. That is the way that everyone dirves here. So...we check into our hotel, which looks really nice in the lobby so it seemed like we had a winner. We go to our room (which is where we are staying for the next 5 nights) and there are two twin beds, no air conditioning, and it smells stale and smokey. Back down to the lobby we go. The guy was a complete ass. He said the smell he couldn't do ... read more

It appears that someone, somewhere is either playing a cruel joke on us or is determined to make us more culturally aware. Whilst Angela and I have being blown away by the beauty and history attached to the ancient towns we’ve stayed in so far throughout this European leg, we’ve not felt the need to visit endless museums or galleries. There are several reasons for this, not least of which is that, if we were not careful, would have spent the bulk of our time inside stuffy buildings instead of outdoors exploring and enjoying the places themselves. Our much loved open top bus tours always provide an interesting incite into a city and, where not available, just let Map Girl do her stuff and you’ll not go far wrong. Thankfully, she has as much of an ... read more

We're now in a hotel in Sorrento with a view to Mount Vesuvius, thankfully over 2,000 years too late!! Our train from Florence to Napoli (Naples to you) was an hour late but we finally made it here and its very relaxing. The weather has remained our friend so, despite having to sit patiently at Florence train station longer than expected (we had some nice Canadians to talk to), we're really got nothing to complain about. It's amazing the way buildings are clinging to the cliffs that drop sharply into the ocean - very picturesque. No doubt there was lots of smuggling went on - and maybe still does - because there are lots of tunnels which have entrances down at the water, one of which we walked through. And for someone used to the likes ... read more

So first of all I want everyone to know that I spent 3 euros in order to write this blog so you better love it!! Jk Iàm tired of being in the sun and shopping (i know!) so this was my next option. So we got on a bus Friday afternoon and took it to Pompeii which was about 3 hours away. The city has a volcano that has erupted frequently in the past, and the lava covered over the ruins of a city that was built like 2000 years ago. I dont know the whole story because after a week of sightseeting ruins and buildings I was not paying attention! MY brain cant hold that much info. Our tour guide was the cutest little Italian man that was telling us all about the Clintons and ... read more

This day was extremely hot and I loved it. The main highlight of the day was the Isle of Capri. We drove from Assisi to Naples where we caught a ferry that took us to the island. The trip took about 45 minutes, it usually takes double this but we were on a jet ferry. We lathered on the sunscreen on the ferry because the sun was out in full force. Once we got to Capri, because we had decided to do the optional tour we boarded a tiny bus and made our way to the high up on one of the mountains of Capri. My god what a ride!! The driver drove at top speed despite the narrow windy roads and having to pull over whenever a car was coming in the opposite direction. Around ... read more

Still no proper update... I'll do that tomorrow. But I do have a few new pictures up. I skipped ahead a couple weeks and loaded up my hang gliding pictures from Interlaken. I was going to load up my others in order, but I left my other memory card in my bag and since I had my hang gliding CD with me, I just did those. So, enjoy!... read more
