Woke at 10am with a hammer knocking on the inside of my head and my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth. I’ll blame Miss A back there in Brisbane for that because she said have a drink or 5 for me. If I could just go back to sleep, but I couldn’t so up and in the shower and afterwards felt a 1,000 times better. Seems they have those magical hangover showers here in Italy too. R surfaced not long after swigging on a bottle of water with the same complaint. Discussions about the day and what we going to do as we had planned to visit Capri in the afternoon and then Pompeii on Friday. I suggested it was probably a good idea if we didn’t sit on a boat today so we ... read more

Breakfast and down to the internet place to check emails and upload the blog which you have already read. We needed a few supplies so went to the local store where we bought some brie cheese off the wheel, a variety of meats, some we had no clue what they were, fresh bread, large cherry tomatoes and water. We then waited at the bottom of the hill to take us up to the village where we are living. Pretty much all the towns of the Amalfi Coast require a hike up one hill or another and Praiano is no different. We have 3 hills that wind back on each other, there are no stairs which is good thing otherwise it would remind me of being back on the Cinque Terre trail. Most of the Praiano locals ... read more

Beach day today and by the time we got organised we didn’t leave until 11am which when I think about it seems to have happen a lot throughout the trip, I guess cause of the late nights. We caught the bus to the top of the cliffs and then walked down to what we found out was Praiano’s Marina. Between two very steep cliffs is a beach with a couple of restaurants and Cafés and a place to buy tickets to Capri. We had a coffee each and R sampled yet another different type of pastry. The beach wasn’t that inspiring as it’s was lacking pebbles (notice I didn’t say sand?) and the soft round rocks resembled mini boulders (OK I exaggerate, they were only the size of a cricket ball). We noticed that a few ... read more

I was awake early hours of today with such an excitement I was off to the Amalfi Coast a place I’ve wanted to experience for quite some years. Some thoughts of home started to enter my mind…something that hasn’t happened for the entire trip. Quickly switching those off I dozed on and off until it was time to get up and close my suitcase once again. The thought of dragging our suitcases to the Termini didn’t excite us at all so we cabbed it…and it was raining lightly. Of course our platform number wasn’t displayed yet so off to the Café for cornetti’s and cafés. We discussed that we’d like to catch a boat from Napoli to Positano or Praiano and would find out when we called the guy where we were staying. We both agreed ... read more

I woke at 1.30pm which is a record for me as I don’t normally sleep during the day after a night out, must be due to the lack of light in my room and perhaps the long day I had. No cornetti’s for breakfast and instead cheese on toast, I’m pretty sure that is the first savoury breakfast on this trip so far, delicious. I caught up on the blog and we decided that we’d catch a bus to Positano and have a wander round there and as it was now 5pm probably dinner there. Positano is just how I imagined it to be, full of character, quaint and beautiful. The town is the most popular on the coast so is packed with tourists. It’s built into a hill which stretches way up into the heavens. ... read more

Next stop - the Amalfi Coast. As you can see from the photos, the reason the Amalfi Coast is famous, is for its coastline. We started our journey with a bus ride from Salerno to Atrani, where we spent our first night. The bus is the best way to explore the coastline, as the roads really hug the cliffs, and in some cases overhang, giving you jaw dropping views over 50+ metre drops. It is quite hard to describe the little towns that dot the coast, but they are basically built into the cliffs and provide a perfect getaway from the cities as for a lot of the towns, it is very difficult to get cars further to the centre than the outskirts where the larger roads are. We made our way to Atrani, and after ... read more

SO, I just sat here for nearly two hours writing a huge entry on our entire experience in Italy. The computer generally automatically saves everything I have written about every 2 minutes, which it said it was doing (I always check). Unfortunately, the internet cut out and I lost everything. I don't have the time to re-write an entry. I will try and recap everything tomorrow. I can tell you that Italy is beyond my wildest dreams. The places, the people, the language, the food...all of it. I am absolutely in love with this country. We are currently in Positano which is by far my favorite place we have been on our trip so far. It's the most quaint town tucked into the cliffs of the Amulfi coast. This, it has to be said, blows Santorini ... read more

Had to post a bunch of stuff in one hit, as we haven’t had wireless for ages. Did it in chronological order though! Yesterday we went to Positano for the day - well, half day in the end. The Italians seem to have a phobia towards signs. There just aren’t many, and the ones there are are tiny or graffiti’d or wrong or all three! It ends up causing a lot of wasted time. We got to the (un signposted) train station in Sorrento this morning at 10:15, and ended up in a queue, eventually getting onto the third bus that came along at about midday. Had a pretty good ride over to Positano, where we pretty much grabbed a salad roll and hit the beach for the rest of the afternoon. Later on we went ... read more
