Is there any better time to visit Ireland than March 17? We think not. The night before, Laura, Natalie, her boyfriend and I all flew into Dublin and grabbed some food before heading to bed for a good night´s sleep. From 9am on March 17th when we woke up, there were people in the streets dressed in green and simply enjoying life---a trait of the Irish! We watched the parade go through downtown Dublin where colorful floats, Irish dancing, and marching bands abounded. All of us dressed in green showed our spirit, Irish background or not! Most of my pictures are on my disposable camera since I wasn´t risking my digital in crazy Dublin that day, but I´ll hopefully get them up soon. We had lunch at a nearby pub before meeting up with Chelsey and ... read more

I was slightly misled by the offer of a 'holiday' in Ireland which actually felt more like bootcamp. The scenery was very lovely and the people very friendly here, but my nerves were a bit frayed by the end of the first day when some erroneous map reading by Sarah meant we got very lost and walked over 50km. It didn't put me in the best of spirits as we also had to do the same walk back the next day, but we managed mostly due to some kind drivers picking us up about 6km from the end and dropping us off at the youth hostel doors. The final day we took it very easy with a pint of Guinness and a sedatory limp around town. Also remind me next time I travel in Britain to ... read more

My trip to Dublin was quite some time ago now but I’m going to write about the bits I remember (the funny highlights), three of us went out to Dublin but only two returned, a lot of alcohol was drunk and a lot of funny times were had by all, this is what I remember of the carnage that was St Patricks day 2005. We had an early flight and by the time we landed and got to the hotel it was about 8am, when we looked out of our window you could actually see the parade that’s how central our hotel was, the parade wasn’t starting for a few hours so we went to a local cafe and had a fry up and a pint of Guinness, well I had a Guinness and blackcurrant as ... read more

I was sitting here drinking my strawberry milk and feeling lonely. Amber just left today and I am here till Monday. Ah the loneliness of a campus with no people! Then I realized I should be keeping up with my blog. Yes I know you are all thinking that girl is a lazy daucer, but I guess that is the truth. I thought the title to my blog would make a wonderful song title. I am going to have to do a little song writing later with my peace and quite! Well I went to Ireland for Saint Patrick’s Day. I am not sure what to write about this trip. I learned several lessons from the experience. Let's read my short, but important list. Ah my soap box.. I missed you soap box! 1. Just a little photo to get you in the spirit of green....There are cows in the top portion but my phone certainly does not double as a camera very well....so you probably can't make them out. But they've become my friends these days...they're the guys on top of the hill. Again, Happy St Paddy's Day!... read more

This has to be a quickie cos I'm trying to make it home in time to get changed and head out for a run (sun is setting on paddy's eve)....where I will allow myself the small accomplishment of getting to the top of this incredible incline I found....It's great on the ass, honestly. Ireland is a runner's paradise...very hilly but not so much so you have to stop and walk the inclines. Every time I get to the top I look over the city and I'm gleaming...right up there on the top of my hill with the cows and birds...then I get to take on the decent which must be done at a slow pace...to avoid my knees giving way or falling on my mug. Oh I've just gone on about running...and I'm saying it has ... read more

Hi Guys, It's about time I updated the site with all the goings on in this hemisphere. Firstly - Mandy, pass on a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Maddy! ok, A recent trip to Dublin developed into a discovery tour of Guiness, Irish Whiskey and Baileys off course. I met up with a good mate from Adelaide in Dublin and we got into the St Patrick's day spirit a little early. Dublin is a beautiful town and the sun came out just in time. Quite different to the -10 and snow in London. I even managed to leave my gloves at home for a day - Ah the small amusements. We went to Kilmainham Goal where I had a very strange sense of 'been there done that' (weird caus a goal is a place I would know ... read more

As promised, it's the fantastic Ireland Trip Report! I was nervous about this whole thing, jumping on a plane to a random contry you know not a soul in, hoping you've got a place to sleep, enough money in budget, and luck will bump you into some friendly faces. But wow- Now that I've done it, I can't wait to go everywhere else. One of the biggest eye openers for me was that there is a whole travel culture, people who just hop from place to place learning and exploring and making friends, for years at a time. I met people my age who have already been through most of asia, india, and europe. It's not as hard or scary as it looks to be, and you don't have to be rich or wait till you ... read more

Oh, I went on another little adventure on Sunday as well...seeing that I'm such a short distance to the Blarney castle I decided to go do the tourist thing...as that is what I am, essentially. I kissed the stone, which is little scarier than I had imagined. There are bars under you to break your fall but still, you literally lean back into the hole and kiss the underside of the stone. One girl after me didn't do it, she freaked out a bit....was kind of funny. The grounds around the castle were really pretty - incorporating a prehistoric Druids site where some remains are still standing...I had so much fun, like a little kid, I was going in the little structures pretending I was in like some old time film or something...The only bad thing ... read more

We get to Carry each other Carry each other One... I swear I've heard U2 playing since I landed in Dublin on the 14th of February...Their collective music really is like the national anthem...I'm sitting in 'Wired to the World' and it's playing on the radio...not that I mind. ;) So, I've ventured out of Cork, not very far, by no means, but hey--i took a bus and went away from the city centre. On Saturday I went to Mahon Point, about 20 minutes east of Cork by bus. It let me out at the new shopping center there...(yep had the job hunting interest taken into account). But jeez, talk about 'AMERICANIZATION' it was pretty much a carbon copy of any mall in america, surrounded by the typical carbon copy housing devlopment. That's not all, ... read more
