Steve here: For those looking for more blogs, I am sorry. I'm having internet problems, both with my computer and the hotels. I'm sending this from an internet cafe. Second day in Cork, and I don't have to drive anywhere, so life is good. We don't get moving until 2pm or so. It is St. Patrick's Day and the streets are filled with people of all ages wearing green clothing, funny hats and painted-on shamrocks. After a prolonged decision making process, we decide to eat at Zanzibar. Not because it looks cool or we heard good things, just because we are so hungry we can't walk any further. The food isn't extraordinary, but isn't horrible. I have fettuccine alfredo with chicken. Day 3 in Ireland and I've had a bbq chicken sandwich, a hamburger, a ... read more

Jackie here- The 16th dawns and the Waterboys await! Cork is a 3 hour drive (Gilligans Island anyone)! We will have time to drink and “get pretty” for the show. 7 ½ hours later we locate our lodgings and barely arrive for the show. Only we could pull off a stunt like this. No problem we think, we can get plenty of drinks during the show, wrong again sparky- the bar closes when the show starts- what kind of backward-ass logic is that! The show is soberingly good! 8 new songs, no This is the Sea and no Purple Rain, the band has obviously not read our MySpace postings! Mike Scott is a true artist and sometimes only the artist knows the plan the rest of us don't see. After the show we scour the street ... read more

Mine is broken due to an illness that I discovered after surviving a bout of economy class syndrome over a year ago. Yes, I was lucky to survive ...95% die during a first episode of pulmonary embolism. I will take meds for it for the rest of my life. I really want to go to see Aerosmith on their world tour but I think that going alone would be irresponsible since I have a family who needs for me to take good care of myself and come home alive and still walking, talking , and thinking. This also makes me realize that my travelling days that I used to enjoy and took full advantage of are over. This hurts deeply since my spirit has always called me to explore the world. I can't even travel back ... read more

Following the intimate details of Sea Snakes and Hammocks provided by Deise Dave, I thought I would regale you all with tales of my latest travelling adventures. In Carrigaline. I woke fully refreshed and after a hearty meal of Tayto crisps, gather my belongings and set off from my accomodation. (It was a cute 2004 style end of terrace dwelling, filled with modren things like kettles and a shower, but more of that later). It was the tranquil predawn skies that echoed my good mood, indigo blue skies fading quickly into light as the dawn chill disappeared. The first landmark promised by the guide book sounded intriguing and I was determined to reach it before the hordes would gather, there nothing like other tourists to wreck your holiday. I checked the map once more and having ... read more

Ok so we said the last entry was our last but we couldn't resist one final one. Especially as we are now trying to open our eyes a little more to our own country and see it with a new light. It's great to be home, catching up with everyone has kept us busy along with our job searchs. Our rambling life has not come to an end yet as we are homeless and so wandering from home to home until each tires of us and sends us packing. Thanks everyone, we hope we're not too much of a burden on any of you. We have been lapping up all the homecooked food and won't be long before Ed gets back to his former weight. It is such a joy to drink water from the tap ... read more

Luck of The Irish As you all know we have been living in the land of little green men. We are on to our 11th month living in Cork City come February. Moving here last April, Sam and I set ourselves up to just work hard, play little and save for bigger and better travels in April 07. We set ourself up in a little one bed unit smack in the centre of Cork city. I wouldn't call it the Ritz but it did us alright. The walls are paper thin, and we're just around the corner from the "4 faced liar" (a clock tower so called because each face tells a different time) so we're woken up on the hour, every hour, by the bells, and also the 15 polish people in the one-bed flat ... read more

Made it to another weekend and the jet lag is slowly disappearing. I know this because I've been pressing the snooze button one too many times and it has resulted in pretty frantic mornings. It's been a good week work-wise as well. I made a batch of yogurt and I am getting to use some very fancy microscopes...I got to see the microstructure of a 6% fat yogurt that I had made! Very very cool! This is probably only exciting to my fellow food science nerds. Some students from France were leaving this week so there was an authentic crepe making party at my place. Delicious! We had savoury fillings (mushrooms, with onions, garlic, corn, chili and smoked salmon with feta) and sweet ones (nutella and banana, jams, brown sugar and lemon juice). Sorry, no pics. ... read more

Things are going well, I'm getting a PPN number (the equivalent to the SIN number) soon so I will be paid. Thank goodness...things are expensive! I bought a small container of oyster sauce (~175 mL) and it cost like 4 euro! I don't know why I bought it...i don't even know how to cook with it! Just missing my momma's home cooking I guess. Things run differently here and that is taking some getting used to. Banks are open from 10am-4pm PLUS they're closed for lunch at 1230-1:30pm! Ah, to be a banker in Ireland! What fabulous hours...but it's not conducive to me getting a bank account. Still quite jet lagged and sick so I've been trying to function on 4 hours sleep total. My brain is a bit foggy as well... Here are some pictures ... read more

We set out really early this morning to catch the bus to Cork. Four hours later we arrived to windy, rainy weather(so the usual), checked in at our hostel and then headed out to see Cork. There wasn't a whole lot to do, so after going to this sort of indoor market(I got a scone, and a pretzel which was amazing) we went to catch a bus into Kinsale. An hour later we arrived in this adorable little town and began to walk to some sort of fort that one of the girls had heard about. We made it after a few very tough hills. The view was so pretty. We ended up walking back along the water. Everyone was hungry so we stoped in town at a pub to eat. Kat and Katie were runing ... read more
