The time zone change is reeking havoc with my schedule. I had hoped to be up and out of the house by 10:30am but I didn’t end up getting out of bed until noon. After I showered and went downstairs, Matt and Billie were already up and downstairs in the kitchen. I told them that they should have woken us up. We were up last night playing cards until well after midnight. We made sandwiches to take with us for lunch; Billie and I had peanut butter and lemon marmalade which turned out to be tasty. I think I’ll take a jar home for Grandma and pick up some smoked salmon for Grandpa. Today was Matt’s turn to drive their very compact car on our days adventures. First stop was the Blarney Stone and Castle outside ... read more

My husband and I are here looking at living in Ireland. We have vacationed here once before and thought it was beautiful and the people so friendly.Loking at it through the eyes of being an expat here makes it a litle different. We have not been doing the "fun ' things that we did during our Dun Loarghrie(Forgive the spelling),Dublin vacation in the winter of 2002 or 2003(sorry for the foggy memory.)We are looking at schools for our two teens and houses that will make us feel at home for at least 3 years and likely more.EXPENSIVE and sparce is what I have to say about housing for our family as well as the cost of living. And EXHAUSTING is what I have to say about this trip. Maybe it is the fact that this is the longest time ... read more

Hey hey monkeys, So Ireland, let the good times continue..... Flew into Dublin last Wednesday....got in about 10.30pm......rushed to our hostel (thats me, Pistol Pete and the Assman)...showered, changed and were at the nightclub 2 doors up from the hostel (handy I know!!) before 12........ITS A GOOD THING!! Not a bad club, was some sort of promotions night, so there was a large group of young women dressed up as school girls..... not really my bag, but the other boys seemed to enjoy it!!! Spent the next day rushing around organising a rent-a-car and hostels...then spent the night in Temple Bar where I consumed my first ever full pint of Guiness....now, 408 pints later.......I've decided that I don't mind it!!! Drove the next day to Northern Ireland and Belfast.... stayed overnight had a huge night out ... read more

I was hoping to stay in Dublin for another couple days to try and see the city since I was feeling better, but some golf thing had filled up all the beds (hostels included) in town. So, I decided to go to Cork pretty much on a whim. The bus ride was pretty easy, and the highlight was beating the "express" bus that left 10 minutes before ours. Our driver was hauling some serious ass on the motorway. We must have passed the express bus four or five times. Each time we got off the highway to make a stop, we'd get back on and catch up to it and then blow by. It was pretty funny, because there had been a mad scramble to get on that bus in the beginning, and it was completely ... read more

Well finally leaving Ireland. A very sad day. My last night could't have been any better. Went to a polish house party. It was a huge shaker. They had a live dj with r'n'b singer/mc. Like really good music Alot of reggae and dance/hip hop fusion. really great. And of course tons of Georgeous Polish Girls. But it was a mixed crowd. There were people from spain, estonia, germany, poland, canada (me and J), and of course Irish. Really super nice people. It was nice to go to a house party. The freaking pubs seem to bankrupt me. what evs. But no pics cuz I am reatarded and forgot my camera at the hostel. We were in a rush. But coul'd ask for a better evening. Heading on a stupid long bus to London, gonna ... read more

Well finished my 2 and a half week detox today and took the bus from Clonakilty up to Cork. Gonna totally miss the farm. Catching a express coach to London on Sunday night but that still leaves the weekend for a good time. To sum up the farm : Great food, great people and amazing scenery. Marc and Debra were the coolest people ever to work for. They were the oposite from slave drivers. It was great, I took my time getting up in the mornign and took my time wiht all my jobs. Planted a wjole crew of O'learya's (my own plant LOL). So my children will grow tall and strong. Made a beauty work bench and shelf. really nice. I was very happy to get back to some carpentry. But if ever in Ireland ... read more

I swear, Jenn and I came to Cork with the best of intentions. We were going to see Blarney Castle, go to the Fota Wildlife Park, maybe take a half-day trip to Kinsale or Cobh…but for some reason we did none of it. In spite of that, we loved Cork. It’s in close competition with Dublin for our favourite. Can you tell we’re city girls? I’ve read over and over that the best of Ireland is in its small towns and villages, but we fell in love with its cities. I’m sure I would love rural Ireland as well, but without a car, it wasn’t to be. Still, we didn’t feel restricted, or that we were ‘missing’ anything - we found it quite easy to talk to locals and it was always apparent that we were ... read more

Today was a trip to Blarney Castle. Lost of stairs to climb up and down. For Amie there were also waves of vertigo frm the top. It was very high up and quite windy. But we still don't understand how the royal women could go up the spiral staircase and through the tiny doors in their large puffy skirts. It was my turn to kiss the Blarney Stone. I had no idea that you had to pretty much dangle through this opening in the wall, upside down, bent backwards, and rely on the old Irishman to haul you back up. A piece of advice to all, at least make a kissing noise if you don't want to make contact with the librally salivated stone. The grounds of the castle were a great place for picnicing and ... read more
