So I got a coat today!! I went out looking yesterday for one, but decided against getting this one because it was a leather coat and I thought I wanted a peacoat or something different. But while walking around today and just being observant, I noticed that a lot of girls were wearing leather coats and so I went and got it. I am going to an Irish cultural night at the chaplaincy so it will be its vogage trip and I will let you know how it goes. It is getting a little warmer each day or at least I am getting a little more used to it every day. But it is a small price to pay for being in this amazing city!!! And everyone says it will get warmer! All I can say ... read more

so i discovered last night that i HATE beer or anything that tastes like it with a passion!!! I only took a few sips of a murphy's and a baulmers and ended up throwing up soon after and no i was definitely not getting sick cause i was drunk (i know you all wanted to hear that!) well anyway, funny thing when you go to a pub by your appartment of mostly international students, all you get are international students around you. So I went out wanting to have an Irish experience and ended up in a sort of warp world of random american students. It wasn't that bad but it definitely felt like a bad frat party that all you wanted to do was just leave. I know I'm so unsocial and a hermit (but ... read more

Hello loyal followers! Today began in a less than glamorous fashion, with a deadly boring class on Early Celtic Lyric Poetry. Won't be registering for that one. I think I'll end up with three electives and three major-requirement and/or gen ed credits. One does need elective credits to graduate, after all. At any rate, following the boring class, I had an AWFUL lunch at the campus main restaurant (I'll be brown-bagging it from now on, believe me), then was struck with incapacitating homesickness. Luckily, my Feminist Philosophy class was really engaging, and the professor very nice. Then, even better, as I was lazing around in my pajamas, I finally got a chance to check the UCC Choral Society website. It turns out they meet at 7pm on Tuesdays. I threw on some jeans and I was ... read more

Haha I need to stop counting cause i'm not going to be able to make it. so i tried to blog yesterday but it wouldn't let me, so here i'm up for another go. a few people, especially my roommate, are starting to get homesick, and already counting down the days. I am trying to stay clear of them because they are poops and i want to stay positive. I keep thinking I only get to be here for 5ish months of my life (unless i scare my mom to death and move out here again- calm down mom just stating a point), and i need to use all that i can! complaining about being here has not even crossed my mind, I just know i am blessed to be here and need to use all ... read more

Hello! We're on lunch break from orientation over at UCC, so I decided to set up this blog rather than put together the promised email list. Due to an unfortunate memory lapse, I have totally forgotten my camera cord at home in Ohio, so I won't be able to post photos until it is shipped here (I was going to buy one, but it was 45 Euro!). After two separate grocery shopping trips, there is finally enough food in our apartment that our kitchen feels like a REAL kitchen. I picked up some delicious smoked salmon, rice cakes, chocolate digestives, and a bunch of other stuff. Tesco is a fabulous grocery store... like Kroger, but with better snack food. I still haven't QUITE wrapped my mind around the fact that I am here for five months, ... read more

Last night,I met 2 of my apartment mates. Both are really nice and both american. My roommate is from Ohio and her name is Lara. she is really nice but still not as great as mine back home! The other girl is named Kate and she is from Boston. We haven't met the last girl yet but she should be here soon? My bed is super comfortable and almost a double. I was a little cold but thanks to our heater I was sweltering after a few hours. The shower was a trip, I had to turn on the heat pully so that the water heater will turn on then I had to get into this tiny shower that I barely fit in. But thankfully the water was BLISSFULLY heated and super warm and actually never ... read more

So after a years worth of being on a plane, being delayed, missing my flight, and having to wait 4 extra hours; I am finally in Cork. Its dark, so I didn't see much but it seems to be a mix between chicago and London. It seems HUGE but I've heard that after a short while it becomes really small and accessible. Can't wait! I have orientation tomorrow and hopefully will get a chance to see some of the city. So all I can say for now is that it is FREAKING COLD!!!!!! I was told it was -5 degrees C. In my book thats WAY too cold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Apparently its the coldest it has ever been here in 50 years. ok no bday drink for bekah, im too tired. ireland was enough of a present. off ... read more

As I said in the previous entry, we we left Edinburgh either on the 22nd or 23rd of December and made our way to Co. Cork, Ireland. We flew to Dublin then took a lonnnnng bus ride to Cork City. We spent Christmas in Cork, but made a day trip to Cobh one of those days (I believe Christmas Eve), to see the town from where the Titanic launched. These pics are from Cork City and Cobh.... read more

What can we say? Had such a fab day! We felt so special the whole day and so happy that everyone had made such an effort for us. It was a great feeling to know we weren't exaggerating when we told people we were having a fantastic day and brilliant that it wasn't an anti-climax after all the planning. Stand out moments: -Walking up the aisle / seeing Rach walk up the aisle; -The music in the church; -The ushers wandering around like lost puppies in the church service; -Hearing everyone cheer as we walked down the aisle!; -Pouring pints of Guinness in the pub in Kinsale in full wedding attire (and Rachel winning the 'best pint' prize!); -The high class speeches - particular kudos to Ed for not having notes and Dad/Joe for bigging up ... read more
