Today I took a bus tour trip to the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren. The Burren is located in County Clare and is composed of limestone countryside. It was shaped my glaciers. All throughout the countryside there are fences surrounding the properties that are made of the limestone that is everywhere on the ground. they look so cool. The first stop was the Lemanagh Castle. This casstle was orginally owned by the O'Briens of Thomond. The ruin was orginally constructed by Conor O'Brien and his wife, Maire ni Mahon. Conor fought in the battle against the Cromwellians and died in battle. His wife knew that due to her last husbands allegiance, she would lose the castle and property. So she married an Englishman and it is said that the very next day she pushed him ... read more

A beautiful sunny day in Ireland... who knew? Tried a to recreate a photo with a 28 year time lapse at O'Brien's Tower !(see pics). That's me in the top right... not sure what I'm standing on because it wasn't there today. Traveled here in 1984 to play soccer...we kicked a ball around and joked about it going over the cliffs! Cliffs of Moher a much bigger tourist attraction today... complete with walls so you can't fall off...probably a wise improvement but does change the view. Skyped with Nana yesterday after a day trip to Clonmacnoise Abbey. She would like more pictures and video so I'll try. Cliffs video of the tin whistle is for Sam to learn to play (yes he has one and is practicing). Love that Abby asks if she can throw a ... read more

Okay, so my plan was to finish up the Dublin blog tonight, after we got back in from our Edinburgh tour....I so want to try to keep everything fresh in my mind as I'm writing, but lo and behold, I had to change memory cards the last hour of our Scottish Highland tour, and I got off the bus without realizing that the memory card had fallen out of my pocket! It only took me about 15 minutes to realize that I was missing the card and I had a major panic! After a quick call to the tour agency, they had the driver check the van (thanks Tony, you were wonderful!), found the card and I get to pick it up tomorrow! I was beyond heartsick at the thought of losing all those pictures and ... read more

Finally a few random pictures of Dublin! Gonna try and update some more later this evening. These are just shots around town. Unfortunately, most of the time we were actually in the city proper, it was raining and not exactly good weather for taking pictures. More pictures and tour details later!... read more

So our Dublin tour started off with a rather bumpy start. After finally finding a little convenience store open and grabbing a cup of coffee and a few snacks (nothing much opens before 8 a.m. in Dublin, it seems), we got to the bus stop where we were to take the ride from Dublin to Galway....a public transportation connection to where the tour actually begins in Galway. Well the bus coordinator told us that the tour company we had booked with had gone out of business! Long story short, I couldn't get an answer from the tour company before the bus left for Galway, so we rode over and figured we could book a second tour once we were there. (read through the lines for my level of frustration at this point! lol) The scenery between ... read more

Colby's parents are taking us over to the Cliffs of Moher today. Colby's father drives like a maniac through all the twists and turns of the narrow Irish roads. The roads are bordered with hedges or stone walls except that the stone walls are covered by hedges so you never know if you are running into a harmless hedge or a stone wall. Who'd want to take that chance? Still, Colby's father knows what he is doing so I have my trust in him. We stopped by a rest station and I had me some delicious Irish Breakfast! Irish Breakfast consists of bangers, rashers, eggs, black pudding, white pudding and various combinations of grilled tomatoes or mushrooms, potatoes, or baked beans. It is tasty! Its better than an egg mcmuffin! Our first tourist stop after breakfast ... read more

Onward. But first an early alarm goes off on New Years day (cruel) set by my husband who was determined to get an early morning second look at the Dingle Peninsula. The loop isn't that long and hey, it wasn't raining, so what the hell. Jeff wasn't having any of it. He thinks we're dum. The second time around was worthwhile as there were actually a few views. Back at the B&B we had a fabulous breakfast, threw our crap in the Ka and pointed north towards Doolin. Rumor was that there was good pub music to be had there and it's just a few miles down the road from the Cliffs of Moher. By god, we were going to see SOMETHING on the List. The nice gentleman that got us to the start of the ... read more
