Hey dudes, We are in Athens! I think you already know that, yes you do cause I told you all about the ferry ride.... what an experience.... It is so hot here, like 40 degrees everyday. We are pretty stoked to see everything here, but we are very stoked to get to a beach on an island where things are a little bit more barable. Yesterday was our first full day here. We went on a walking tour that originated out of our hostel. It was very good as it gave us an efficient look at the city, the best shady spots to enjoy the sites from, and a great commentary from an International Relations grad from Brazil! He knew his stuff and was really funny too. Loads of people on the tour, we met 2 ... read more

I've been 1 day to Rhodes and it was a great experience. We went from Marmaris (Turkey) to Rhodes by catamaran. It's a daily service. You depart in the early morning around 05:00am and get back around 06:00pm. I don't have much time to write so I just let you see some shots I made. The rest of the text is comming...... read more

Hello to everyone, We have made it without a hitch to Athens! Not to say that we are not exhausted and really hungry though.... So we left you in Bari when we were just about to board the ferry. We were in the 'deck class' so we weren't too sure what that got us... maybe a train sort of seat?? Well we got on the boat, via escalator (holy crap), got up to this cruise ship looking interior with wood floors and a casino and restaurants and bars and crazy stuff, we were told to go upstairs... Well deck class means you sleep on the deck with a plastic roof over top. This is like the top of the ferry that is undercover. All the backpackers were up there. We grabbed a bench so we had ... read more

Island Hopping I'm in Mykonos, one of the Greek islands. If I tried, I wouldn't even be able to describe how beautiful this place is. What I'm at right now is the Contiki Resort on the islands, so as all the people here are my age, there's TONS of bronzed young beautiful people walking around. Haha. I am not one of the bronzed ones, but I'm surprisingly not burnt to a crisp! I've been lathering up on the lotion! My tour is great, and the people are all nice and friendly. There's actually only one guy in our group of 25, not including the male tour manager (Ben, from Australia). We're off to Santorini, another island, tomorrow. Not sure what time we leave, but hopefully not too early!! Since I've come to Mykonos, I've managed to ... read more

Hey Contiki crew! Contiki feels like a school camp for adults where drinking and partying are the norm. The difference from a school camp is minimal, excursions are still organised, you make new friends and if you’re lucky you get a new girlfriend...or three. :) I remember school camp was all about hiding the contraband you snuck in and organising midnight feasts with your mates. Some things never change, except on Contiki we swapped the chocolate for a few bottles of Bacardi we picked up at Duty Free. Checking into the Mykonos resort we were lucky enough to get a twin room overlooking the pool and resort grounds from the first floor. With a location like this the only hospitable thing to do was host a party on our balcony with the new crew. The bottles ... read more

6/10-6/16 We arrived on the Greek island of Samos by ferry from Turkey and it may as well have been a different planet. Coming from a land where girls must cover up from head to toe to a land that encourages nude beaches, it is quite the culture shock. We had just one day in Samos, explored a nearby beach and the quiet downtown area. It seemed to be sufficient time there. We took a ferry to Mykonos later that evening which was supposed to be overnight and arrive around 6am. However we were woken from our restful slumber around 3:30 and told we must hurry and get off the boat otherwise we would miss our stop. After a full panic and race through the giant ferry and out the docking bay, we soon found ourselves ... read more

so technology OFFICIALLY hates me, n not just a little bit, but with a vengeance. we get 35 min internet cards and i currently have 5 min left because that's how long it took to load this page. not only that but this is the first day we've HAD internet access, and on top of everything my phone is telling me that i have 2 min left on the SIM card even though i haven't been able to call ANYONE or even get phone calls for about a week... so just so u know mom and dad, u can ask my roommate -i've tried to call about 5 times everday for the past week and a half and it won't go through, it just kicks into emergency mode and shuts down, so i can't even try ... read more

Europe » Greece » Thessaly » Meteora June 14th 2006

The holiday was something about the Saints or the Trinity- an Orthodox holiday. This meant that at the monasteries instead of the hordes of tourists there were lots of Greeks as well. It was really humbling because most tourists take a bus up but I walked a 20 minute trail steep up to the furthest away monastery, this one full of only Greeks. There was a father with the big beard, black clothes, and cross, and everybody was kissing his hand. I felt really out of place, but he smiled at me and I went inside but everybody was praying so I left. The other monasteries were more touristed, but the best thing about Meteora was the rocks themselves- just beautiful, look at the pictures. I thought Thessalonikki was going to be a bad city, but ... read more
