Hello! Melissa here again just thought we would update you on our Mykonos adventures! Our ferry arrived and we checked into the beautiful Petinos hotel on Petinos beach and grabbed our suits and headed for the sand! Swimming for some, reading for others, mostly enjoying the view and getting a tan through our spf 30 to 45 sunscreen! After the sunset we headed into Mykonos town to some local dance clubs and taverns. The nightlife here doesn't really start until midnight but we enjoyed the quit time as Monday was a Greek holiday so many of the locals took a 4 day weekend in Mykonos. We met lots of new friends all over the world and danced the night away. Monday morning we got on a cute little boat and headed to Paradise Beach where turns ... read more

Before I continue- to answer my father's question about what I am eating, here is my meals that I have bought since London: Day 1: Airplane breakfast (luxorious), Lunch: bread and hummus Dinner: bread and hummus, pepsi lime Day 2: Bread, water, etc. Bread, water, I had some cookies, and I had some yogurt, but mostly bread and water. I bought nutella today though, I am excited. But I don't mind the food, I just think I need to have some fruit but its hard to find. Oh wait- I did have one good meal with the tour group- mousaka vegetarian for 5 euros, it was really really good. Anyways- Mykines was very old and also full of tourists that came on nice buses. Those of you in Strickland's class know that this was where the ... read more

Sir, your goats are blocking the road My first visit to Crete was via Olympic Air from Athens on a vintage de Havilland aircraft, possibly a variant of the DH.141 Heron circa 1950, possibly the real thing. Either way, there was a certain Indiana Jones flight out of Cairo feel to it. I wondered at the time if a bright red line could be seen tracing our route on the surface of the Mediterranean below. Also, from my vantage point directly behind the pilot, I could clearly see the notice on the pilot’s screen that the navigation software license had expired in 1984. No worries, how far could Crete have moved in twelve or thirteen years? Before going any further, I want to make it clear just how much I enjoyed Crete, because sometimes it may ... read more

We arrived in Athens to hot weather and bustling streets. Went to the Acropolis (an ancient theatre and temples). Three of us agree, not worth the money. Woke up early to catch a ferry to Mykonos. It is a sparse island with white and blue buildings- pretty much the stereotypical restaurant at home. Ryan and I found our 'cabin' but choose to upgrade to a room. The 'cabin' is maybe a bit bigger than a closet. Beach is beautiful with crystal clear water and a reef with fish and coral which you can walk over and dive into the Aegean sea. Staying here for a holiday from our holiday. Tans are getting dark and the suns really highlighting Megs hair- Ive gone back to my natural colour. hehe... read more

We arrived safely in Santorini on a ferry at 4 am and are staying at a hotel a block from the black beaches of Perissa. Time for the wine tours, volcano, and tonight the sunset over the Caldera! We split up a bit for the day with Jessica and Jeanna heading up the beach front. Aisha, Aliya, Aditi, Megs, KJ, Me (Melissa) and George (who we met at the internet cafe in Milos) traveled around Santorini. It is beautiful there. We took the day to walk around, shop, take in the local culture and watch the sunset over the Caldera. The night we spent playing Uno, and other card games and chatting. All while enjoying the beautiful location, at our not so beautiful hotel! The showers were missing curtains or doors, and the spray went everywhere. ... read more

I can't load pictures where I am now, but I will later. I got up at nine to go on a walking tour of Athens, a bit pricey at 13 euros, but I really didn't feel like going by myself. I met two nice Aussies and we had a sassy British tourguide. We saw all the main sites- the Acropolis, full of German tourists, the Temple of Zeus, the Agora, it was really great. After lunch with the tour group I was sad to go off by myself again because I wanted to go to Nafplio in the south. Its amazing how one place can be crawling with tourists and ten minutes later not a word besides Greek is spoken. I got sort of scared and looked like a stupid tourist getting on bus 051 to ... read more

Melissa here... A blustry day called for all of us to adventure to the various towns around Milos. Luckily, Jessica found us a local tour guide who's mom is from Milos but lives in Arizona now, his name is George. Our trips around the island included a beautiful beach, local towns, the Catacombs, an old theater, and beautiful scenery as Megs drove a car through the windy roads. George's cousin owns a restaurant in the capital of Milos so we ate, had some wine and laughed while meeting his extended family, which was great because we had the opportunity to meet and hang out with real locals. The sun has set now and we are packing up our rooms as we head to the ferry to Santorini at midnight. Best wishes to everyone back home! :) ... read more

My hostel is in a strange neighborhood. I was surprised to see a hammer and sickle because this is the headquarters of the Greek Communist Party, and people are not overly friendly but they aren't hostile either. I can't help but feel like an ugly foriegner though. I only slept and relaxed today, and so tommorow I'll take a walking tour and see Athens proper. The weather is much milder than I expected. I like the way Greece looks, its the opposite of Alaska. I will write more later.... read more
