We arrived in Mykonos about 11:30 and went straight across the road to try and get ourselves some wheels (mopeds), but it was not to be. So we headed off by foot to Mykonos town to have some lunch. The service at the restaurant was terrible, we all thought we were getting hot chips with our toasted sandwiches but we got those french fry crisp things. Luke's meal came out a good twenty minutes after the rest of us finished. After that we got the bus to Paradise beach where it was all happening! Doof doof music, bikinis and sweaty bodies to boot! This was where it's at! The beach was just packed with party goers, there was a huge screen on the beach too. We pulled up some banana lounges and had a few drinks ... read more

We arrived on the pretty island of Naxos. It had been a pleasant trip on the yacht. We decided to go for a bit of an explore. Some of the girls went for a look at the shops, while Matt, Mark, Dave, Jamie, Luke and I took a ten minute walk to a local beach. We went for a swim and then went for a stroll. On the way back we just had to buy an ice-cream. In the evening we had a communal meal on the yacht and then headed out to a cocktail bar where we enjoyed strawberry daiquiris, blue velvets and Matt had a Forest Gump. A great night was had by all! Before we went to bed, Matt and I took a stroll to see Naxos by night.... read more

The temperature at Kiotari was supposed to have been 123 degrees the day before. I had spent the day with the family crashed out by the swimming pool fighting with people of a certain nationality who had claimed the sunbeds at 12.30am by laying out their beach towels. And so I had hopped from one marble floor tile to another on my frequent visits to the 'all inclusive bar'. What we needed was something to cool us down and so on the Thursday we embarked upon the glass bottom boat that twice a day ploughs its way from Kiotari to Lindos and back. Being primarily a tourist attraction the price was a bit steep for a family of four but the boat trip was worth it if only for the chance to sit on the side ... read more

We got up mega early and caught the blue star ferry to Paros. The journey was a pleasant four hours. Luckily when we got to Paros there was a place to store our luggage (for a price of course) and we headed on a bus to a busier part of the Island called Naousa. We spent our day eating ice-cream and exploring. There was a small inlet with some water and rocky sand. We went for a swim then lay on our 1 Euro 50 straw mats and had a nap. Eventually we headed back to the port to meet the guys and find the yacht that we were to spend the next seven nights on. It was a staggered meeting of everyone, we stocked up with supplies from the shop and settled in. In the ... read more

I arrived in Santorini a few days ago after a long, but relaxing boat trip from Pireaus, Athens. The reason it had been so relaxing was the fact that I had to buy a business class ticket of 52euro, since everything else was sold out. The first time I follow an advise in the Lonely Planet Guide and it screws up. I literally hate those guide books by now. I have found countless mistakes in all the once I've used. Mostly I double check, but this time I followed the advise of not buying my boat-ticket before it was sure to departure and found that only these exstremely exoensive tickets were left. But as I said it was nice, though not worth 52euros it was surtently possible to get a lot more sleep than outside "the ... read more

We arrived in Rhodes at gone 1am and from the moment that the aircraft doors opened heat swept across us. An hour on the coach took us to Kiotari, a small resort towards the south of the island, about 15km from Lindos. We arrived at the Rhodes Village Hotel, complete with marble foyer, tiled floors and, thankfully, air conditioning. We caught a few hours sleep and then spent the first day settling in. On Monday 1st August 2005 we took a coach to Rhodes town which sits at the very north end of the island. The town is broken into two main parts. The old town sits within the 'city walls' which date back to medieval times and are about 10km in circumference. The new town exists outside the walls and contains the police, council buildings ... read more

Hello all, Graeme here, in what will likely be our last (and likely lengthy) travelblog. A few words are needed on Rome before I delve into the insanityy of the Greek Islands. As Jen mentioned, Rome was sweltering, and I found it a bit annoying to walk in such heat given Rome's spartan metro system. The Colosseum was no doubt surreal as was the Vatican. One thing I found weird was how proud Rome seemed of conquering half the world. Surely it wasnt all benign, right? St.Peters Basillica is an impressive peice of architecture, which makes you forget about that little old man who lives above telling people condoms facilitate evil. Seeing the Sistine Chapel, you can only marvel at the fact that one man painted the entire thing(or did he have help?). Anyways, after seeing ... read more

Ever had one of those days when accomplishing even the smallest of tasks feels like trying to write Mandarin Chinese upside down while riding a drunk elephant? Yeah me neither but let’s just say today approached that level of frustration. We left our village of Imerovigli for the bright lights of Fira, the biggest little (only) town in Santorini. Fira offers lots of tourists, few cabs, street hawkers moving people into restaurants (even in Greece there’s slimy recruiters) and gift shops that make you scratch your head (do you really want to ship fresh wool pelts and feta balls back to the states?). The place is pretty much what I expected of a resort town dedicated to making middle-aged couples overpay for trinkets they’ll throw in the junk drawer as soon as they get back to ... read more

Editor's note: This column uses an egregious amount of parentheses. I'm sorry, I was in a very parenthetical mood while I was in Santorini, I guess 80-degree weather, no place to be and a steady salt-water breeze caused my internal monologue to kick up a notch... Apologies if it annoys you.(unless it annoys Balz, then I'm happy about it) A scenic and uneventful (Just the kind I like) 45 minute flight delivered us from Athens to the picturesque island of Santorini. ( I thought about making a Great Santini joke here but Robert Duvall isn't as big as he used to be) Our Hotel, The Eltheon turned out to be a really nice looking Villa complex with a beer commercial quality (but frigid) pool and several 1 bedroom apartment units. Very "rustic" to be sure, there ... read more

Hi Everyone-today we were on the Greek island of Santorini, I really loved it here! When we opened the windows this morning the first thing we saw was one of the most beautiful islands. The top of the mountains were covered with whitewashed and sea blue adobe type houses, hotels, churches and cathedrals. I really like it here. We had to tender (small boat) over to the island because our ship could not get close enough to the island. Once we arrived on the island, we had 3 choices to get up the very high, vertical mountain, 1. 600+stairs 2. cable car 3. donkey. Guess what choice I made? Yes, the donkey. Mom, Dad, Brittany and I each got our own donkey, they gave me a smaller one. Mom was so afraid the whole time we ... read more
