We arrived in Rhodes at gone 1am and from the moment that the aircraft doors opened heat swept across us. An hour on the coach took us to Kiotari, a small resort towards the south of the island, about 15km from Lindos. We arrived at the Rhodes Village Hotel, complete with marble foyer, tiled floors and, thankfully, air conditioning. We caught a few hours sleep and then spent the first day settling in. On Monday 1st August 2005 we took a coach to Rhodes town which sits at the very north end of the island. The town is broken into two main parts. The old town sits within the 'city walls' which date back to medieval times and are about 10km in circumference. The new town exists outside the walls and contains the police, council buildings
