We are just winding down our time in Europe, on Monday, Sept. 5 we will leave for South Africa. If when you read our upcoming blogs and think we've had a change in personality or mood swings, don't worry, we are not on drugs, we've just started our Malaria medication (the side effects include mood swings, crazy dreams and personality changes to name a few - but they are very unlikely). Our time on the Greek Island Naxos has been nothing short of relaxing. Our daily schedule is wake up around 10:30, cook breakfast, go to the beach until late afternoon, shower, go walk around town and watch the picture perfect sunsets everyday, go back to our studio and cook dinner. We've got it made! I don't think there has been a cloud in the sky ... read more

well, what can i say. i wasn't a huge fan of mykonos but that's not everyone's view. i still had an aweome time there and i'm glad i went, but it's not the best of the 5 islands i've been to. we had 2 massive nights of the 4 we were there. they were both at the same place, at our camping ground beach bar. the first night, wednesday, was so much fun. there were 9 of us together, all female, 22 years old from melbourne. so bizarre. our night didn't start til about 1am and finished at 4.30 with lots of dancing in between. they had a bubble pit, basically a massive tube that pours out this foamy bubbly stuff into a pit. it's about knee high. had so much fun running around in that ... read more

We have finally arrived at the ocean, actually about a week ago. Today we arrived in Naxos, Greece, one of the Greek Islands in the Cyclade Island Group. Even though it is our first night here, we think this destination has topped the charts so far. The greek food is great, so of course we have been eating authentic Greek Gyros, and now because they are truely authentic since we are in Greece, Justin pretty much refuses to eat anything but the Gyros...they are tasty! We have found a studio apartment on the beach, which is very spacious and cheaply priced because i think we are finally out of the tourist season in Europe, which drops the prices down significantly. To get to Naxos was quite a journey, but a very nice one. We had to ... read more

We had to get up really early, like 4.30am for our early departure to head to Mykonos… One of the boys had to sit through the entire breakfast dressed as a girl to for fill his coach dare!! He looked so funny and wasn’t happy about it! We lost one of the guys from NZ, who was on our tour… he went missing last night and we had to leave without him… We all think that he was on some sort of medication that he’d stopped taking as he’d been getting worse for days… That’s the second guy from NZ that I’ve seen this happen to on my trips since I’ve been away… The 5.5 hours we spent on the ferry across to Mykonos was the most boring 5.5hrs of my life!!!! There was absolutely nothing ... read more

ios was so much fun. went out one night that was crazy and very entertaining, but the rest of the time we stayed at our camping ground, where there was lots of stuff happening anyway. we arrived in mykonos yesterday afternoon after our ferry was delayed - of course, greek style. so far i think i've liked ios the best. great atmosphere and enough people to make it fun and not too crowded. mykonos is much busier and more touristy. we went in to town today, shopping - didn't buy anything though. there are sun lounges here that you have to rent but they are so close together, they use up every spare inch of sand, all the way to the water's edge. if you lay on one, you have someone's feet so close to your ... read more

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Kithnos August 12th 2005

We awoke very early today about 5:45 am to make it to a place Ares recommended called Kithnos. We moored the boat about 150m from the shore. The water was delightful we could see right to the bottom. We swam to shore where there was a small cave you could swim into, the acoustics were amazing! We also climbed a bit up the rockface (Matt further than me) and looked out over the ocean. Matt and I explored along the beach line further which was quite rocky and we discovered a shallow hot spring. I hopped in and a local told me it was 38 degrees! It was like an ancient spa. I lay in it for a good twenty minutes and then we eventually swam back to the boat for some lunch. In the afternoon ... read more

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Syros August 11th 2005

We left about 9:30 today. Ares (our skipper) had warned us it was going to be a rough one. Not even ten minutes into the journey and 7 out of the 11 of us were feeling queesy. It turned out that this trip was to be the roughest of the lot! Most of the people on board got very seasick (lucky for Matt and I we were fine!) We arrived in Syros at about 2pm and most of us were starving so we headed out for some lunch. After that we went by bus to Syros town. Mark, Katrina, Melissa, Adrienne and I climbed up loads of stairs to an awesome view of the ocean and part of the island. At night we had alfresco nibbles but not too many drinks on the boat because of ... read more

i'm here!! yay, yay, yay!!! what more can i say!! arrived here on monday, i think, and leave on saturday. so i still have another whole day here in paros before i move on to naxos. it is gorgeous - of course. how could it not be. i'm in the greek islands - the thought still makes me giddy. sorry to everyone at home enjoying winter!! have done nothing here except swim and sunbake, which is basically all i planned to do. the water is gorgeous. crystal clear blue with white sand (haven't seen sand since australia). i'm staying at a camping ground right on the beach. i literally walk 20 metres, and i'm in the water. i'm camping, yes, actually in a tent and all. it's quite good actually. not the most comfortable but i ... read more

Matt and I decided to go out alone today to see what else we could explore on Mykonos. We first headed by bus to Paraga beach where we lapped up a magnificent view of the beach from a cool poolside bar. We then hiked our way round the mountains of rock to an amazing aerial view of Paradise beach where we had been yesterday. After that we caught a small boat to super paradise beach were we lay on two banana chairs under an umbrella which came at a price. Later we headed back to the boat and met the others, not before I had a nutella crepe on the way! We all went for a rooftop meal at a nice restaurant (mussels in creamy sauce mmmmmmmmm). ... read more
