A boat is a funny thing you know. There is almost no privacy so after a while you get everything. Jealousy fights, naked people, things that should have stayed inside (also some food that got out the wrong way again :-)) Today we wanted to go the way home. We came a lot farer then we expected and without measuring it in the card I would say it is about 120 nautic miles from mykonos to athens where we have to give back the boat...at an average speed of 6 miles/hour that makes 24 hours sailing.... However everybody had a hangover so we started late (around 9 a.m. it must have been) and I only had 2 crew members to get the boat untied. We decided to go only a short way back to Syros ... read more

After spending the night we finally were making our way to the fabulous “Paradise Beach Club” which is why the Balkan Boys talked us into going to Mykonos at all. The problem is we did not know where it was and the coordinates we got from the owner were not compatible. So we went along the south coast of Mykonos anc checked the bays until we found a nice one with 2 beach clubs. Unfortunately they were others so we just anchored. Since we had 25 knots leeward of the mountain the poor skipper (still me I must say) had to grab divers glasses and jump in the water to see what the anchor would do. Brrr, water was cold. Anyway, the beach was wrong, the wind too much and cold so nobody wanted to ... read more

I guess every one of you has had sex. Was it good? I mean really good? And how long did it last? 30 minutes, 2hours (lucky ) ? So this was the day. We got tired from being in Syros and decided to leave even with a predicted wind of 6 Bft and waves supposed to be 2.5 m high (which on sea looks like 5m). We had a vote going and finally decided for Mykonos. After some bathing (baying actually that should be called) we finally left Syros at around 4 p.m. and had some 30 nautical miles to go. We went south first and had an average wind (against all forecasts) but that was because we were leeward of the island. But then finally we met it - the storm. YES. At first ... read more

The Greek Islands have been awesome. We arrived at Samos (Greece) from Turkey on the 26th via a ferry from Kusadasi. We spent the day relaxing in Samos while we waited for our afternoon ferry to Mykonos, which was the first of the Islands we stayed at. The ferry took about 7hrs and we finally got in about midnight. Mykonos was a great change from Turkey, maybe we were sick of people trying to sell us carpets? Anyway with our first day on Mykonos we explored the blinding white maze of streets around the main town. The little white houses with blue doors and colourful flowers were so pretty and made for some lovely strolls. We saw the row of old windmills on a hill on the edge of town and a row of restaurants on ... read more

I mixed up the dates somehow. It's incredible how you are actually loosing track of what day it is. If I would be sailing around the world for a while I would not even know which year we have after a while :-) The wind got very strong over the night and in the morning when I got u we had wind speeds up to 35 knots, which is beaufort 7 and that was IN the harbour, leeward of a mountain. Captain Ted and John had sent me some SMS telling me about 5m waves outside and after doublechecking that in the internet I found that the wind was 6-8 Bft and the waves were 2.5m - which is looking like 5m. With this conditions it would have been stupid and irresponsible to go out ... read more

We started from Mericha at around 11 a.m. after waiting for the huge ferry to come in 10 meters next to us. It’s really impressive how they drop the anchor and get into position in a harbour that is roughly 50m longer than the ferry itself (150m). On our way to Siros / Finikas (37° 23,8’N 024°52,6’E) we did not pass many interesting things. The Cyclades are actually not sooo interesting. In my opinion the Baleares offer a lot more. However we had an nice wind with 26 knots in peak and were jumping over the waves. Some of us liked the fun, others were really happy to have their medications and felt a “little” sea-sick :D. Guess what? I was on the fun side… The weather is really perfect. I got some funny guys ... read more

"Where are you from?" "California." Laughter ensues..... This is a common conversation we have had here in Naxos, Greece. I guess people find humor in the fact that we are from California, land of bottle blondes and never ending beaches crowned with impossibly beautiful mansions..well at least that is their idea of it. Last night we were sitting near the port when two Norweigens, who were in the girl's words, "a wee bit drunk", came charging at us yelling "Callispera(Good night)". I think they were excited that they knew some words in Greek. They asked where we were from and when I answered the girl shrieked, "I LOVE THE O.C, THE O.C, THE O.C!". Oh shit I thought. That stupid show is what people think we are. I've seen the show once or twice and it ... read more

After my last entry I waited for the others to get up which was around ten. It did not matter because some people from the other boat we are travelling with did not have their luggage yet because it was forgotten in Frankfurt…so we waited relaxed and after a while (around noon :D - you know they are all disco guys and girls, they normally don’t even get up before 12) some of us went to the supermarket and bought about 100 litres of water and beer and some food. But it looks like they did not like us so while the luggage had arrived we were now waiting for the groceries which came around 3 p.m. By this time this skipper here (me) was a little bit worried because he knew the route and ... read more
