I arrived at Santorini as sick as a dog. Actually as sick looking as the homeless dogs that run around here with one eye and the shakes...almost as bad as that. Our boat reached port and I thought we had taken a wrong turn and ended up in Colorado or Arizona. Absolutely amazing cliffs and mountains, but not what I had pictured in my head. The second we got to Villa Marvalia I fell right asleep trying to undo the damage Ios had wrought. I woke up the next day not feeling too good so Melissa went to the beach without me and I went foraging for some tea and a good book to pass the stay at home day with. I couldn't find tea and everyone told me there was a pharmacy in the next ... read more

Stood in a large crowd to get on the Blue Star Naxos Ferry; it's nicer than the first two GA Ferries I took. Only 2 hrs. north from Santorini to Naxos; it's a fairly big island. Docked & was greeted by aggressive hotel/studio/pension reps. trying to get people into their places. Fortunately my ride for the Hotel Soula was there; I transported over w/ a family from Sweeden. Again, you don't get much for $13-3 bunk beds with enough extra room for a 4th & there would be no where to move, so small. And not only is it also a phone booth size shower, but there's no curtain! What are these people thinking? Bunked with 2 other pairs from Sweeden. For those interested-there are 9 million Sweedes; their president is Frederick something & their ... read more

Hello Everyone, it's been awhile as we have been having some action-packed, crazy adventures but once again we have emerged unscathed and amazed by the places we've been visiting and people we've been meeting. Venice was a city unlike any other that we've seen. Floating on the water, it is rich in history, beauty and tourists. Before we arrived, we met people who assured us that the only way to truly appreciate this area was to explore it by water boat - so this is what we did. We enjoyed two days of wandering the unique canals by boat and getting lost in the streets while on foot. We managed to locate the most enormous, delicious pizzas known to Italy (and our tastebuds) and checked out the location where "The Italian Job" was filmed. When ... read more

Left Ios about an hour late; it took about 4 hours to get to Santorini which included some stops at other islands. Saw the spot where the boat wrecked (roped off by buoys so the oil doesn't leak all over) near Santorini a couple of months ago. Passed some cruise ships. Small port, but crazy busy when a ferry docks. The ferry carries cargo in its belly so trucks roll on & off; it's a big ship. & lots of locals either meeting you to take you to your place or trying to sell you a place for the night, so they all stand around holding signs & trying to solicit your business. From the port, you immediately climb up a steep road to the plateau of Santorini (forewarned ma, you probably won't like this ... read more

What about those Wallabies! Consecutive wins. Don't bother yelling down the line about second string Springboks because I've got my fingers in my ears and can't hear a word you're saying. The text messages updating the scores were not encouraging. 7, 14, 17 to nil. But then the mighty Wallabies, oops Penny is giving me that look which means I have to get back to the holiday talk. The Greek Islands were to be one of those hedonistic sections of our year. That's if it's possible to claim hedonism on our budget. Regardless of budget, the islands do lend themselves to kick back to the point of semi comatosed. Naxos and Santorini were the two islands we chose for our week of pseudo hedonism. Naxos touts itself as a "FAMILY" island. A couple of beaches south ... read more

Thursday (an extra day I forgot I had) Another day in the hot, humid air of Kuala Lumpur. Fortunately, there's plenty of shade and AC to be had. Yes, one more day to explore around the great city. Still lots to see. But because the weather is so oppressive, I slowed it down. I slept in and opted for the KL City Hop on/Hop off Tour Bus. It's air-conditioned, stops at all the major attractions/areas, and is relatively cheap ($US 12). While I waited for the bus to arrive at Sentral Station, a young woman came along looking for the same bus. She was from Canada, is going to school in Thailand, and now vacationing with her family for a few weeks. As we talked, we discovered that neither of us care for coffee, but we ... read more

My whole family, reunited in rome...who would've imagined we'd be meeting again in Europe for a family vacation what a treat! Unfortunately they don't have the luxury of time quite like i do. To take in all the sites that Rome offers it was a packed few days, not much of a relaxing vacation like anticipated. Lucky for them, I'd already been and so research and oriantation was a bit easier! It was enjoyable for me to be their tour guide in a sence and give them a taste of my so called backpackers holiday....langage barriers, public transportation, hard pillows, soft beds, mouth watering foods, discovering the unknown, embracing new cultures, feeling lost only to realize you never knew where you were to begin with!!! All part of the every day!! Paying for toilet facilaties ... read more

Today we really had to make it. 80 nm to our next target (the island Poros) which would be close enough to get home easily on the next day. 80 nm means at least 10 hours of way, more likely 14. So we left Syros in the morning with the fog still hanging over the sea (bad weather was expected). As always only the skipper was to be seen the first few hours and we had to motor a long way. We passed Kythnos in the south and the crew woke up, wind grew stronger so we finally set the sails and were heading west with 7.5 kn. Sailing this long way can be really boring so Jeff put up a fitness workout once again (me and the boys we had been doing this every ... read more

I'm literally on the edge of death. Ios has sucked the life out of me. A week in Ios is hard to handle. This is our daily schedule. Start drinking at 10 pm, go out to the bars at midnight, clubs start around 2 am, get home around 5 am and wake up at 2 pm then go to beach to laze about. Repeat. and Repeat. This place makes Corfu look like child's play. I've had a blast here but after 4 nights I'm beginning to grow a bit tired of the crazy life. There is just a maze of bars and clubs that you can weave in and out of and you can dance till morning light if you like. Nothing opens here until 7 pm. There is this one club called Flames where the ... read more
