Hello, made it to Santorini and it is really beautiful here, the beaches have black sand and the sea is dark blue. We found someone at the port that had a room in Perissa (where the beaches are) and it was huge it could of fit 4 people and I had a double bed for only 25 euros a night for two people. The owners were also really nice and helpful. Tried a dish which in English is called small fish I thought it just meant a small piece of fish, he even showed me what they looked like from a metre away but since I am blind as a bat I just nodded. It turned out to be lots of tiny little fish with their heads and whiskers still on and they looked just like ... read more

well, what can i say. i wasn't a huge fan of mykonos but that's not everyone's view. i still had an aweome time there and i'm glad i went, but it's not the best of the 5 islands i've been to. we had 2 massive nights of the 4 we were there. they were both at the same place, at our camping ground beach bar. the first night, wednesday, was so much fun. there were 9 of us together, all female, 22 years old from melbourne. so bizarre. our night didn't start til about 1am and finished at 4.30 with lots of dancing in between. they had a bubble pit, basically a massive tube that pours out this foamy bubbly stuff into a pit. it's about knee high. had so much fun running around in that ... read more

I arrived in Santorini a few days ago after a long, but relaxing boat trip from Pireaus, Athens. The reason it had been so relaxing was the fact that I had to buy a business class ticket of 52euro, since everything else was sold out. The first time I follow an advise in the Lonely Planet Guide and it screws up. I literally hate those guide books by now. I have found countless mistakes in all the once I've used. Mostly I double check, but this time I followed the advise of not buying my boat-ticket before it was sure to departure and found that only these exstremely exoensive tickets were left. But as I said it was nice, though not worth 52euros it was surtently possible to get a lot more sleep than outside "the ... read more

Ever had one of those days when accomplishing even the smallest of tasks feels like trying to write Mandarin Chinese upside down while riding a drunk elephant? Yeah me neither but let’s just say today approached that level of frustration. We left our village of Imerovigli for the bright lights of Fira, the biggest little (only) town in Santorini. Fira offers lots of tourists, few cabs, street hawkers moving people into restaurants (even in Greece there’s slimy recruiters) and gift shops that make you scratch your head (do you really want to ship fresh wool pelts and feta balls back to the states?). The place is pretty much what I expected of a resort town dedicated to making middle-aged couples overpay for trinkets they’ll throw in the junk drawer as soon as they get back to ... read more

Editor's note: This column uses an egregious amount of parentheses. I'm sorry, I was in a very parenthetical mood while I was in Santorini, I guess 80-degree weather, no place to be and a steady salt-water breeze caused my internal monologue to kick up a notch... Apologies if it annoys you.(unless it annoys Balz, then I'm happy about it) A scenic and uneventful (Just the kind I like) 45 minute flight delivered us from Athens to the picturesque island of Santorini. ( I thought about making a Great Santini joke here but Robert Duvall isn't as big as he used to be) Our Hotel, The Eltheon turned out to be a really nice looking Villa complex with a beer commercial quality (but frigid) pool and several 1 bedroom apartment units. Very "rustic" to be sure, there ... read more

Hi Everyone-today we were on the Greek island of Santorini, I really loved it here! When we opened the windows this morning the first thing we saw was one of the most beautiful islands. The top of the mountains were covered with whitewashed and sea blue adobe type houses, hotels, churches and cathedrals. I really like it here. We had to tender (small boat) over to the island because our ship could not get close enough to the island. Once we arrived on the island, we had 3 choices to get up the very high, vertical mountain, 1. 600+stairs 2. cable car 3. donkey. Guess what choice I made? Yes, the donkey. Mom, Dad, Brittany and I each got our own donkey, they gave me a smaller one. Mom was so afraid the whole time we ... read more

Hi all!, Well we made it to Belluno in the north of Italy and finally off loaded the didgeridoo to Riccardo. Had a great time there, Tati and Riccardo were not only great hosts but also great tour guides. managed to get stuck in the lift here which was pretty funny, but was eventually rescued by the repair man. Visited Kalebs old school which was a tad embarressing to start with as we were taken to each class and introduced to not only the teachers, but also the students - was fun really. We visited some of the people that were involved in Kalebs stay and had many laughs. Not so funny was the 23 hour journey that got us from Belluno to Athens which was a combination of long train, sea ferry and bus rides. ... read more

welll... our main aim for this part of our trip was to see blue and white houses!! if you have ever seen a picture of greece you will know what i mean... it is those amazing white painted houses with blue shutters and doors overlooking the blue blue of the mediterranean!! basically we had no other plan!! so it was pretty easy not to be disappointed on this leg!! the other side point was that we had to be in istanbul, turkey on the 12th of may to catch a flight back to london so from athens we were island hopping across to ephesus and then on to istanbul overland! so we started out from pireaus (port in athens) and caught a ferry out to the island of santorini! an overnight ferry it took about 12 ... read more

Hey there soul-siblings, Sigh... another stamp on the old passport. I'm still a little melancholy about leaving Turkey, although our reluctant exit was almost a week ago -- We finally caved under the pressure of beginning our ill-planned Eurail passes. However, we had an excellent run of it. We spent our last few days holed up in Kelly and Alena's old haunt in Selcuk in the care of Harry, the slightly manic carpet salesman. We practically had to pry ourselves away after he offered us jobs there. All the people we met in Turkey were so happy and good natured and, honestly, it was no wonder -- They live in freaking paradise. Check our photoblog for some updated pictures from the cruise (photos.yahoo.com/eurolizandpia). Maybe I'm being a little overly dramatic, but we really did have a ... read more
