Well I have to say that my stay on Kos promises to be one of the most meaningful experiences of my life....ok I'm only here for 4 hours before jetting off to Patmos. I arrived here shortly before 7am on the overnight ferry from Syros. After disembarking I walked along the pier and saw a spectacular red sunrise over the water. I am usually not up early enough to see one of those. I am now sitting in the Plateia Platinou being stalked by a cat. SKAT! Ok, that's better. Besides from that feline stalking it really is a wonderful calming place. In the middle of it stands a tree where Hippocrates is said to have taught his pupil under its branches. The whole scene feels vaguely Turkish in a way I feel that Rhodes will ... read more

Geo: 36.8975, 27.2862 GÜN 17 CUMARTESİ: Sabah 06:30 da Kos'a vardık… Tek sorunum, Mastika almak .... Bunun için dükkanların açılmasını beklemem gerek. Dükkanlar 9:00 da açılırsa planım yatar.. Ayşe'yi l... read more

With an 8.15am pick-up we had to set an alarm and get up early this morning for our trip to Kos. After sleeping in until about 8.30am most days this was a bit of a shock to the system!! The dining room opens at 7.00am so we were able to have a quick breakfast before we headed off. The driver was expecting to collect some more passengers from the Voyage, but after waiting nearly 10 minutes there was no sign of them. We drove down to the resorts just down the coast and picked up a few more people and then returned to the Voyage. Still no more passengers and, by now, it was nearly 20 minutes after the scheduled pick-up time. So the driver took off for Bodrum. Literally low flying ... presumably to make ... read more

I spent about 4 and a half months in Kos. In this time I think I saw it rain about 3 times, one of those being a massive storm back end of the season, which I love. Sat on my balcony at about 5am with Myphos in hand, having just got in from work, watching Zeus carry out his finest work until A lightning bolt came down and struck, leaving Kardamena silent with no light. Peace at last! I have always been a fan of the Greek islands since I first ventured to Malia in Crete in 2004. Even though this was just a lads holiday it gave me an insight into the laid back approach and friendliness the Greeks bring to everyone. The waters are fascinating and it is very easy to fall in love ... read more

We had checked in online and were surprised that we could get seats 4A & B on the flight. We also arrived at the airport very early and completed the baggage drop equally early, so it was no surprise that our bags came out onto the carousel at Kos (International Airport) last. Well, Marg’s bag did, but Geoff’s did not seem to come through until Marg spotted it on a trolley that two men were using in their collection of bags for some group of folk who had already left the airport on their bus. (Marg saves the day again). A quick authoritative approach from Geoff rescued the bag and we were on our way. The taxi ride only reinforced the earlier observation that road signs (read double lines) are purely for decoration in any part ... read more

We went to Kos for a week in April to get some sunshine and explore a piece of the Mediterranean. We stayed in a beautiful hotel in Kos Town. Our room overlooked the Aegean Sea and across the water we could see Turkey. When we got there we wandered around town and found a beachside restaurant called Papa's Beach Resort. We were served by a man named Apostilis and I swear he is related to Rocky Balboa. He was very entertaining to listen to and we even got him a little fired up when talking about Cyprus and the Greek vs Turk conflict in history there. This is where we had our first Greek Salad of the trip. The language barrier was a bit more of a struggle here then in France as in France we ... read more

Thursday 30th September 2010 We were tired when we arrived in Kos at 4am but there were no touts waiting to offer us a cheap room so we decided to just wait for the next ferry to Leros and sleep when we get there! Kos is the second largest of the Dodecanese having fertile land and renowned for producing the kos lettuce. It is also famous as the birthplace of Hippocrates. Luckily the harbour cafe was open where we could sit in relative comfort and have a warm drink. We sat and read until 7am, and when we saw someone else store their luggage we decided to do the same so we could spend the remaining time exploring the town. Surprisingly, this was quite enough time for a thorough look and long walk around the town ... read more

İstanköy (Kos) Bodrum Yarımadası'nın karşısında, Anadolu'... read more

So now we are in Kos, Greece. Long, long day of travel yesterday as we got to the Santorini airport after a 4 hr airport worker strike (damn socialist-like countries!) and it backed up all the flights, so we were 4 hrs late to Kos and did not do anything except get food and go to sleep at 1am last night. And today they wouldn't let us rent scooters, buggies, 4-wheelers or anything because they said on this island you must have an international license if you are American! Guess it saved money for us and not sure there is really as much to see here as the other places. Very industrialzed/commercialized on the drive in. The Port/Old Town part of Kos is nice though. Last day in Santorini, though, was amazing! Dad chartered a huge ... read more

DAY 71 'KOS WE'RE GOING SAILING We take the BLUE STAR FERRY, a huge vessel on a three hour journey from Rhodes to Kos. We arrive and take a taxi to out lodging for the night. The apartment is 13 km out of Kos town and it sits across the road from the beach and has a really nice swimming pool. However there is no manager on the premises and we have no idea what to do and what room is ours. The people staying there said that they were given a room number and the key was left in the door for their arrival. There two doors with keys in them so we took one room but they had only two beds and we needed three beds. Being bold women we took a mattress from ... read more
