I left the hotel and headed towards Koblenz and parked up. What a beautiful city with lovely little squares everytime I turned a corner. As It was saturday there were things going on all over the place. Stages with music and in one a fantastic medievil market where all the stall holders were dressed up, a punch and judy show and a juggler. A wonderful sight. I really did'nt so much sight seeing as it's a bit of a pain with a back pack and leathers on, I'm starting to think that I'll need a few days for somewhere like this. I headed off on mz waz to Aschaffensburg - well, as the theme is starting to emerge, I didn't make it!!!! LOL I stopped for some dinner in a lovely little place in the middle ... read more

Ok, I was supposed to be heading to Munich, or at least in the general direction today but............ I saw a sign post for Koblenz, and had been told that it was well worth a visit so before I knew it I was heading there. :) What a brilliant spur of the moment decision that was!!! Well, did I not happen to see a sign post for Nurburgring!!! an opportunity that I could not pass up. As you will see (when I get my pictures up). Seriously, I don't know who said it first but I'd love to hug the person who said 'whats for you wont go by you'. As I decided not to take the first sign for Koblez but the second one!!! This was the most amazing fun I've had in a long ... read more

this must be short (really) - just to summarise getting out of D'dorf and where I am now (which is Koblenz). I have attached a few snaps of my last sunny Sunday afternoon in D'dorf - it was glorious (apart from the art indoors - can I just say that Joseph Beuys (conceptual artist) is an absolute tosser and I refuse to recognise his own self-important significance - TG the K20 gallery had some decent early 20C painting - Klee, Kandisky etc, to make up for his nonsense downstairs!) As you can see Dorfers love a sunny Sunday to sit in the sun and drink bier (as I did too, hopping onto a moored boat for one - see pix)- as it is getting colder by the day and soon the weather will no doubt go ... read more

We were picked up this morning at our hotel in Frankfurt by our driver, Peter, in a VW van at 8:00 AM. It was about a 1-1/2 hour drive to Rudesheim, where we would board our cruise boat on the Rhine River. About halfway to Rudesheim, we entered the Rheingau area. Rheingau and the Rhine Valley is the wine growing area of Germany. There were vineyards for miles and miles and all along the Rhine during our cruise. This area is most famous for white wines. We arrived in Rudesheim a little early, so Peter drove us up to The Niederwalkkenkmal Monument overlooking the Rhine and the town. It was a lovely stop with great views. The Niederwalkkenmal Monument (pronunciation test when we get back!) commemorates the German victory over France in the Franco-Prussian War in ... read more

After checking in at the hotel, we hopped a cab to the town center and started wandering around. During our meandering, we came upon a tent with a band playing inside. After asking at least 4 people what the party was, we finally found out it was an annual fair or kirmes. It turned out this was the last day of the 3 day event, but there were still some people partying pretty hard in the beer tent. The band turned out to be 2 guys with a guitar and keyboard playing both German and American songs. It was kind of funny hearing 2 German boys singing "I'm a Believer" by the Monkees. We had some fun trying to sing along with the rest of the crowd to one of the German songs. All we got ... read more

Not only did we rise early enough for breakfast, but we were the first guests there. We smiled and attempted some German, but not all too successfully. Luckily two more guests joined us and Rob and I were able to relax. We asked if we could stay one more night and offered to pay, however, the owner would not let us. Arriving at the car, I was somewhat bemused to hear that Rob had forgotten the car keys. Fortunately (perhaps) Rob had also forgotten to shut the drivers side window. Even more lucky was that his spare key was within an arms reach. After a bout of relieved laughter, we headed off in search of the Rhein. The drive to Koblenz along the Mosel took us through lots of pretty villages and plenty of vineyards. There ... read more

So we are currently in the car driving from Heidelburg to the Black Forest, so just an update on the last few days in Germany. Our first stop in Germany was Cologne, or Koln as its said here. We arrived there at 2am in the morning, after the horrid fridge day we just wanted to get to Germany so we drove late at night after dinner and a rest. We had 1 full day in Cologne, first stop was the Schokoladen Museum (aka Lindt city yummm!!) The museum part was kind of boring but the Lindt factory part was great! Not enough taste testing if you ask me, but the smell of the Lindt chocolate and watching the lindt balls/truffles being made was agony - pure chocoholic nightmare! Got some pics for you too Dad - ... read more

Guten Tag, I vus in Germany for zee weekend and I saw many different things jah! Ok, enough with the atrocious German accent. Late on Thursday, we got on the bus, slogged through the traffic and arrived at Schloss Hachenberg 3 hours later than anticipated. It was pissing with rain when we arrived but dinner was waiting so I didn't mind too much. However, the beef (I think it was beef. It was dead whatever it was) was a trifle salty. And when I saw a trifle salty, it must have been marinating in the Dead Sea for a month prior to comsumption. That being said, the meat was much better than the mushy peas, which most certainly did not start off the night as mushy peas! I finally got the key to my room but ... read more
