Geo: 50.6437, 7.55194Today was one of those really fun days in Europe when everything is closed!!! Did a day trip to Bonn, less than an hour by train. Bonn well known for being the birthplace of Beethoven. The centre of town consisted of pedestrian only streets, making easy for me to look at the old buildings in the city squares without having to worry about traffic. Due to it being Monday, there wasn't much to do, so I went to see Beethoven's house/museum. It was an old house. Inside I saw musical instruments, letters, music and paintings. There was also his last grand piano, which wasn't that grand in size at all. Saw his huge ear trumpets that he used to help him when he was becoming deaf and the books that he wrote in to ... read more

Bonn Dia A Road Trip to Bonn Today we actually got up and out in time for breakfast in the hotel which turned out to be pretty decent. We both got some freshly scrambled eggs and some bacon along with a croissant. The only amusing part of breakfast was the owner’s insistence to anyone that entered that there was no smoking at breakfast…while he smoked a cigarette. Whenever he works the desk the whole hotel reeks of his constantly lit butts, but “No Smoking at Breakfast!!” Funny! We ended up spending some time in the room to prepare for our next leg of the trip. We will be heading from here to Rothenburg for the weekend. So we took some time to send some emails to hotels in hopes of getting a room (We got ... read more

I have been having a great time in Bonn. Staying with my friend Katja (whom I met as an exchange student at UBC) and her boyfriend, Patrick. Even though Katja has had to work every day, her and Patrick are phenomenal hosts, doing everything they can to ensure I have as an authentic German experience as possible. On Monday, the weather wasnt fantastic, but Patrick and I went for a nice long run along the Rhine River. Katja met up with us after work and we went to visit one of the museums featuring a Guggenheim exhibit. We went out for authentic German food, I had speitzel and shnitzel (basically a doughy pasta and breaded pork cutlets). It was heavy, but good. Tuesday, Patrick and I took a day trip to Cologne. We visited the famous ... read more

well hello from the middle of nowhere Germany. after three days in amsterdam we arrived here this afternoon. Amsterdam's canals, and beautiful boats were only outdone by the traffic mayham that was crossing the street. It was people lane, bike lane, car lane, tram lane, car lane bike lane and people lane. with islands between each. basically it seems that bikes have the rightof way....or maybe its the trams. we're still not sure. we saw the Van Gogh museum which was GREAT and also enjoyed an excellent canal tour. Our hostel was great. clean, safe, a great breakfast and beside a big park of Bohemians. Hilary has met a beautiful tall dutch boy and decided to stay with him in the netherlands. had i not pushed her infront of his bike, i would still have a ... read more

We find ourselves now in this little sleepy town of Bad Godesberg, situated just south of Bonn, in time for the start of the World Cup. Our grand farewell to England with our British hosts included both a beer festival and a fair in Chalfont. Funny coincidence at the beer fest -- the Brits found us a souvenir plate from none other than Victoria, British Columbia, Canada! The only thing we could think of doing with it was to get them all to autograph it and now we will bring it home and put it on display as a memento of our trip. It was sad to say goodbye, but as we have managed to do all year it was time to look forward to our next destination, back to the European continent. We flew to ... read more

A chapter is closing! From the next 2 weeks I will more or less be doing the 'backpacker' thing and without a forsure bed to sleep in every night Oy. Not exactly looking forward to it. I changed my plans again about going to München. It's sort of a lame story so I don't want to talk about it. Yes, as if talking about getting locked in my room isn't lame... Where am I sleeping tonight? Most likely in the Köln airport. Where will I be sleeping tomorrow night? Most likely in Luxemburg. How am I getting to Lux? Haven't figured that part out yet. But keine Panik. I've got this crazy idea that Lux is a really cool country, if only people knew! Ok, so the main reason I'm going there is because it borders ... read more
