Yes, the suitcases are open. Not much in them yet because I have been concentrating on setting up all our web site bookmarks and sorting them into folders. Major ones are Travel 2013 and Travel Transport 2013. I was tempted to categorize further but then I thought this would be a bit over the top. Well my first folder is for city info stuff and the second about ways to get us there. Simple. Then another site which gets to sit on my bookmarks menu bar is booking.com so we can book our accommodation. Generally we go for 3 star if the place rates well on TripAdvisor etc. Forgot to mention that all the above is being created on my new MacAir (well new to me but actually model before latest). Still it is heaps better ... read more

Frankfurt 13-15 May 2013 After 20 hours of flying, including 1.5 hrs in Dubai, we arrived safely in Frankfurt. We said goodbye to Adam & Ange in Perth after spending 4 days with them. It was lovely spending Mother’s Day with Adam. The day was beautiful. On arrival to Frankfurt, we were met by Kevin who we met on our African trip in 2012. He took us to Julia unit (his partner) where we were going to stay. Julia was away so it was lovely of them to offer her home to us. Kevin even bought us some supplies for breakfast and snacks. Wow, that is the German hospitality. We hope he and Julia can come to Australia so that we can return this hospitality. Kevin, Tom & I went to a little restaurant for dinner ... read more

We leave Cathay Pacific in 6 weeks. Suitcases are out and first 3 nights accommodation in Marburg booked. Beyond Marburg has not been decided yet. Thought about getting an ipad and a map app but, part of the fun is sourcing directions to your hotel etc. so taking our little notebook ACER for posting on this site, booking accommodation and googling things in general. This will be our fourth year of carefree travel. We like to escape our southern hemisphere winter from around June/July to Sept/Oct. This is my first blog. Wish me luck :)... read more

Travel 101: make sure you’re in the right train station. That’s a basic rule of thumb – but I almost made that fatal mistake. Mind you, Paris has 6 train stations. I almost went to the wrong station. ALMOST. At the last minute I decided to actually read the ticket and gasp – that was a close call! When planning for this trip – I thought last day in France would be all about relaxing in Paris – so it’s ok to take 6.40 am train to Frankfurt. Then last minute I added Mont St Michel – which is a full 12-13 hours day trip. With packing and stuff, that leaves me with 3.5 hours of sleep. I was (trying to) run with full backpack on. I must’ve look like a penguin. But apparently, I didn’t ... read more

... read more

Arriving in Frankfurt I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I had never really heard much about the city, other than its reputation of being Germany's main financial hub, offering a breath taking skyline. It was never somewhere that had cried out to me as a tourist destination however as my flight on the way to Berlin dropped me there, I thought why not check it out en route. Upon arriving in Frankfurt we decided to embark upon a bus tour. This seemed like the most sensible way to discover the city I knew so little about. Sitting on a bus with minimal movement also seems like a great idea when you have been traipsing round an airport since 4am! The bus tour was EUR19.00 and claimed to offer a day ticket for the city tour, ... read more
