Well we've arrived in Hamburg, Germany after 36 hours on succession of planes chasing the sun across the globe. High points - we had a nice flight on Air New Zealand to Hong Honk and ate real chinese food for the first time (or at least as real as you can get in an airport), and we almost saw the Himilayas and think we saw Tibet... there was definitely lots of snowy mountains and lots of flat on the Tibetan Planes. Anyway, Ive got to rush this because its hard to find internet around here and Ive got two more days to cover before our next bus leaves. - Nigel... read more

Hey all, A lot has happened over the past 2 weeks. School has gotten A LOT busier as I have been having projects, term papers, and tests due (got a 100 on my Trade vorpruefung, yay!) . I can't wait, only a little over a month of school left! I am very jealous of the people back home who are done school already though.. just makes me want to be done with it even more. Anyway, 2 weekends ago was the harbor's 819th birthday. They had a big to-do going on down there from friday-monday and it was a lot of fun. They had a lot of museum ships docked as well as working ships that you could walk around and stuff, along with carnival type rides and games. Joe and I pretty much spent the ... read more

So I arrived in Berlin. The first thing to impress me was the fleet of taxis waiting outside the airport - every one was a Mercedes. Sure, they’re made in Germany, but it’s not exactly what you expect. I still like London taxis best though. I reached my hotel and after a small nap I headed out for a quick look around my hotel. It seems the hotel was in the middle of a major shopping district, which has little appeal to me (especially with my already full suitcase!) I was a little surprised by a couple of the places - a Head shop (marijuana paraphernalia) and an Erotic Museum. It was like being in Amsterdam again! But I settled for a delicious dinner of bratwurst on a roll and headed back to my hotel for ... read more

Was sollte jetzt noch schief gehen?

Hey all, I'm very excited that it is now May, and I will be even more excited when it is July.. July 12th, to be exact. The weather here is getting more and more beautiful by the day, and it really feels like a whole new city, because I can now do things I couldn't when it was cold and rainy. I am trying to appreciate even the smallest of things, because as much as I rather be home right now, I know I will miss this place terribly when I do leave. This past weekend Joe and I were determined to be outside as much as possible and not to waste this gorgeous weather we are having. On Saturday, we went to Stadtpark and went paddle boating, which was of course a lot of fun. ... read more

Hey all, I know, it has been far too long. Life continues to get busier by the day. Let's see... what has happened. Finance continues to be extremely stressful because of this term paper- how my partner and I will each right 20 pages on forward freight agreements, I don't know. We have until June 10th (why the deadline isn't the end of the semester, I don't know) and we don't officially receive our topics until this coming tuesday. And the greatest hitch of all? No internet resources. WHAT?! I don't think I've had to use a library for research as much as this since middle school. Other than that, my other classes are okay. It just feels weird that I'm not more stressed out right now- at home, classes are much more structured and have ... read more

Hello all, Sorry it's been so long, since the last update, but we have had difficulties finding computers and finding the time to get down to this. We left Katrina in Denmark on April 28, and headed south into Germany. As soon as we hit Germany, we saw hills! We hadn't seen hills since we flew out of Vancouver so it was great to see them rather than a flat expanse such as Saskatchewan. That's right, I went there! We passed through Felnsburg, which is where they built the new Vancouver ferries so that was kind of cool. We arrived in Hamburg, and it was raining. The first rain of the trip! We took the Metro to our hostel called the Wira Hostel. The directions were something like this "Exit the Konigstrasse metro and it is ... read more

Morning: Construction sounds again at 8am!! God, these people get to work so early!! Slept late last nite and got woken up by them again. Today the kids go to their kindergarten and we will take a walk around Hamburg ourselves. So we got ready and ate breakfast and left shortly after Seth went off for his meeting, leaving poor Oscar behind to guard the apartment. Afternoon: First visited the St. Michaelis church and took a lift up to the tall tower to view the Hamburg city. Actually it's nothing special so we didn't spend too much time on it so after that we walked on to the next church visit and stopped for a pizza lunch break at a restaurant on the way. Further down we reached St Nikolai church which was bombed during WWII ... read more

Morning: Got woken up by lots of sounds, the construction work upstairs, the kids talking and people walking outside the house. What a lively place! Today we will all take a day trip out to the harbour w the kids and Oscar so we took it really slowly cos it takes time to get everybody ready. At 11am, the construction people and owner of the apartment upstairs came down to have a chat w Seth cos they are going to attach a pipe down thru his house. The chat took 1hr and the kids were getting restless and we were getting restless so finally at abt noon they are done so we could get ready to go out. Afternoon: A nice sunny day today so the walk was fun, we stopped at the Wednesday fruit & ... read more
