Söin huoneessa aamupalaksi banaanin ja voisarven ja lähdin sitten automaattipesulaan, jonne oli matkaa noin kilometri. Kun pyykit pyörivät koneessa, kävin pullakahvilla, ja sen jälkeen pyöritin pyykkejä kuivurissa vielä puoli tuntia. Pesulassa saattoi käyttää myös luottokorttia, ja siellä ei ollut väkeä juuri lainkaan. Levitin pyykit huoneeseen, vaikka ne olivat melkein kuivia. Ostin 24 tunnin lipun joukkoliikenteeseen. Pääsin liikkeelle klo 12.30. Kävin ensin katsomassa Weddingissä taloa, josta olin varannut Airbnb-majoituksen, mutta jonka sitten myöhemmin peruin. Talo oli korkea opiskelija-asuntola, joten siellä olisi voinut tuntea olonsa oudoksi. Jatkoin S-junalla Prenzlauer Bergiin. Siellä pätkä ratikalla ja kanaleipä. Kävelykierros vei minut vesitornille. Lopuksi otin pienen oluen. Päätin muutenkin siirtyä suurista juomista pieniin juomiin. Palasin hotellille maan pintaa pitkin.... read more

(1 day until departure) I am in the final stages of preparing for a 12-months sabbatical. Over the last few weeks and months, I have dealt with wide range of issues – from booking my first few flights, finding a language school to brush up my Spanish, getting some vaccinations, purchasing travel insurance, subletting my flat, handing over my work to my colleagues, to saying goodbye to family and friends. Für den Samstag hatte ich mir in Berlin zwei neue Attraktionen vorgenommen: das Humboldt-Forum und der Flughafen BER. Im ersteren besuchte ich zwei Ausstellungen und die sonnige Dachterrasse. Hier fallen insbesondere die historisch aussehende Fassade und die neuen hellen Räume und Sichtachsen auf. Viele der Präsentationen sind auch kostenlos. Vor dem Stadtschloss wird auch gerade am Denkmal zur Deutschen Einheit gebaut, wobei das Fundament schon weitgehend fertig ist. Es soll wohl dann die sogenannte Einheitswippe werden, wobei man aufpassen muss, dass man seinen Fuß oder die Hand nicht an die falsche Stelle hält, während das Denkmal wippt. Ganz allgemein besteht dieser Teil von Berlin Mitte aus schönen wieder errichteten Prachtbauten. Von dort fuhr ich mit der neuen U5 weiter zum Alexanderplatz und setzte meine Fahrt zum BER fort. Vor vier Jahren war ich zuletzt in Berlin und da es nun einige neue Attraktionen gibt, nutzte ich dieses verlängerte Wochenende zu einem Kurztrip in unsere Hauptstadt. Dabei bekam ich gute Qualität zu einem ordentlichen Preis: mein 5 Sterne-Hotel liegt in der Nähe des Bahnhofs Friedrichstraße und kostet nicht allzu viel. An allen drei Abenden gehe ich in ein bekanntes Restaurant in der Nähe und auch das ist nicht so teuer. Für die Hinfahrt mit der Bahn nutzte ich den Sparpreis und die Rückfahrt ist bis auf die Reservierung kostenlos, da ich mit Punkten zahle. Und den Nahverkehr nutze ich mit dem 9 Euro Ticket. Das Programm besteht aus neuen Attraktionen: am Tag 1 nutzte ich die neue U5, deren Stationen zwischen Hauptbahnhof und Alexanderplatz wirklich modern sind.
