Hello! So the semester has ended, people have gone back to their respective countries and alas the world continues to turn. Most people went back home this past weekend… it was so sad to see my really good friends off at the train station Saturday and Sunday. Needless to say, tears were shed. The last few weeks of school were absolutely amazing. The weather was gorgeous. Flowers were in full bloom (and Angers is not at all lacking in the flower department!). And exams were just around the corner. My exams, though assez difficult, seemed to have gone well. So I’m super excited about that. And my defense of the paper I wrote during the semester went incredibly well. I was so surprised. As I was waiting to be called into the room, I seriously thought ... read more

Ok, so my last two posts have had NO vocabulary words/expressions. My apologies! So this post is nothing but a few phrases in informal French. Enjoy! =) 1) le pieu - bed « Demain je reste au pieu jusqu’à midi » = Tomorrow I’m staying in bed until noon. 2) Ne pas avoir un radis - to have no more money « Je n’ai plus un radis » = I don’t have any more money. 3) Être rond(e) - to be drunk « Il est complètement rond » = He is completely drunk. 4) Une tarte - a slap « Toi, si tu continues, tu vas recevoir une tarte ! » = If you keep on, you’re going to get slapped ! 5) Cinoche - movie theater « Si on allait au cinoche ? » How ... read more

Hello friends! I hope you’re doing well and that you’re enjoying this late spring weather. I surely am…as I am not a fan of the dead of summer in the South. Too hot for me. So, last week I turned in my mémoire (a really important paper), which made me so incredibly happy. Though I was not a fan of the mémoire during the semester, I was so proud of it when I finished. And I think I did a really good job on it. The first week of June (exam week) we will have la soutenance, which is when we will have to defend our mémoire in front of a jury of 3 professors. Gross…I’m not looking forward to that one. But I think once it is over, I will appreciate having done it. It’s ... read more

Ma famille d’accueille I have absolutely fallen in love with my host family. I regard them as a true family. I also tried my best to share facets of the American culture with them. I explained one day that it was a wives’ tale that when the sun is shining and it is raining that we say that the devil is beating his wife. There are many other expressions that I cannot think of that the moment that I explained to them. The really appreciated that. Not too soon after Easter vacation I went to the store with Christiane and we bought things to make hamburgers. I had offered to make true American hamburgers for my house parents and their family. Everyone really enjoyed it. :D Jean, my house father, hates to get his fingers dirty. ... read more

So, it’s been a while. My bad! We had a two week vacation, of which I took advantage to see my family and some friends that I hadn’t seen if far too long. And quite honestly…I took about a week and a half hiatus of all things school related. I needed a break. Badly. The first week back to school was, however, amazing. I was so glad to see my friends here in Angers and to be able to occupy my mind with school. I don’t know what it is about being a student, but I just love it. If I could get paid to be a student for the rest of my life, I honestly would. I guess I just love learning ;-) Which is a good thing, I suppose. Because I’m a long way ... read more

BBQs and Parks I have become really close friends with a guy who comes from Ohio, David. He is my neighbor, and we tend to walk or take the bus everywhere together. We are also friends with another guy from Iowa, Chris. I have a friend Kat from my previous study abroad adventure. We all three like to walk around the city. One day we decided to have a BBQ at lac-de-maine. We each bought/prepared a dish and brought it on the long bus trip to the lake. Once there we cooked hamburgers and hotdogs and had an "American" BBQ. We ate at this big open field area, and afterwards we all went to the lake and waded into the water. Oftentimes we would also venture to the parc de balzac and also the large park ... read more

So many things have been happening, and my time is passing so fast. It is happy and sad that is happening. It is good because I've been a little homesick, but it is bad because I've been making so many new friends and experiencing so many new things of which I wish to continue. Sunday Drive As you should already know, I adore my new family. CC pays for me to have breakfast and dinner with them Monday through Friday. However, my house mother insists that I have breakfast with them on Saturday and Sunday as well. :D She is such an amazing cook. When I first arrived, she told me that if I wanted to have lunch or dinner with them on Saturday and/or Sunday just to tell her. Well it is more of a, ... read more

So, spring is quickly approaching: flowers are blooming, the temperature is rising and spring break is a mere two weeks from grasp. Couldn't be happier! A lot has happened these past two weeks, though not all of it is really "blog worthy"... more so just the day-to-day wonderful experiences in France. So, here are the highlights: School has been going really well. I've had SOOOOO many tests the past two weeks, and I have a few tomorrow and Friday. But after that, I have a break from the exams for at least one week, so that's nice. Woa...I just thought about something... I don't think I ever told you which classes I'm taking. Well, here they are: Langue, Histoire de l'art, Grammaire, Français familier, Littérature, Mémoire and Étude Socioculturelle. Needless to say, I manage to stay ... read more

So I'm really sorry that I haven't updated in a while! Doctor! Doctor! So one Saturday I started to have a dry cough. I lasted until Monday, and then I decided to go to the pharmacy to buy some cough syrup. Everything was going well with the cough syrup, but it started to get more and more difficult to sleep because of the cough. Then it started to get really hard to breathe, even to just take the 10 minute walk to the Catho. So I decided to go to the doctor. I had always heard that healthcare in France was much cheaper than in the United States and in some cases better. I feel that both of these were the case for me. So the Thursday after, I went to the doctor. The doctor that ... read more

Well, I think this is week three that is drawing itself to a close this weekend. It's kind of sad...that's it's passing by so quickly. This week was definitely a "study week." In other words, not much playing around outside of school. That is, of course, attributable to the fact that I had a lot of homework, but more so to the fact that I wasn't feeling too well this week. Always tired (though couldn't sleep well at night) and always felt nausiated. Translation: not fun. This past Sunday I finally did my laundry. For had I not, I'm afraid I would have been...well...not very well covered near the end of the week! And it's cold here, so that was just simply not an option. Anyways, as I was doing my laundry next door to the ... read more
