Informal French Expressions

Ok, so my last two posts have had NO vocabulary words/expressions. My apologies! So this post is nothing but a few phrases in informal French. Enjoy! =)

1) le pieu - bed
« Demain je reste au pieu jusqu’à midi » = Tomorrow I’m staying in bed until noon.

2) Ne pas avoir un radis - to have no more money
« Je n’ai plus un radis » = I don’t have any more money.

3) Être rond(e) - to be drunk
« Il est complètement rond » = He is completely drunk.

4) Une tarte - a slap
« Toi, si tu continues, tu vas recevoir une tarte ! » = If you keep on, you’re going to get slapped !

5) Cinoche - movie theater
« Si on allait au cinoche ? » How about we go to the movies ?

6) Se grouiller - to hurry/speed up
« Grouille-toi, je suis pressée ! » = Speed up, I’m in a hurry !

7) Le pieds ! - good job ; bravo
« Tu as écrit ce poème toi-même ?! Le pieds ! » = You wrote this poem all by yourself ? Good job!

8) Ne pas tourner rond - to be not feeling/doing well
« Tu as l’air stressé… tu ne tournes pas rond ? » = You seemed stressed… are you not feeling well?

9) Être débordé - to have lots to do and not enough time to do it !
Elle doit écrire son mémoire entier dans 2 jours… qu’elle est débordée ! » = She has to write her entire thesis paper in two days… wow she’s got too much to do and not enough time to do it !

10) Emballer une fille - to seduce a girl
« Il a essayé d’emballer une fille dans le jardin, mais elle n’était pas intéressée du tout ! » = He tried to pick up a girl in the park, but she was not at all interested !

11) Taper sur le système - to make make, to annoy
« Le prof a perdu mon examen ?! Que ça me tape sur le système ! » = The professor lost my test ?! I’m ticked !

12) Cailler - to be cold
« Veille à ce que tu portes ton manteau ce matin… ça caille ! » = Make sure you wear your jacket this morning…it’s cold !
