Lille was the first place that we went to visit outside of Paris, since we thought we had better start to get some more use of our train tickets. The resort has a free bus that takes you to the local train station, so that was handy. After wandering around for a while in the wrong direction, we finally located the town to have a look at. After that we stumbled across all sorts of interesting churches and buildings on our way around. And the Christmas market was well worth all the effort, they really went all out with decorating the whole area and Mum wanted to take half the town home. After doing the Christmas market we then went to the ginourmous Eurolille, their monster shopping centre that they advertise everywhere. This was pretty impressive, ... read more

Hello! I'm actually at school right now but I found out that my first period class is not having class because the teacher never showed up, that happens a lot here actually. So I thought while I had the time I would write in here. Well I have been doing really good. I know everyone probably wondered what I was doing for Thanksgiving seems how that is just an American holiday. Well, it ended up being a really good Thanksgiving. My first host mom came over to my 2nd host family's house and we all had a "Thanksgiving" dinner. Funniest thing about that.. they had no idea what corn on the cob was but the host mom and I found it in the store and they decided they would try it for me. Its strange because ... read more

Getting away from London at the weekend has become lately my favourite hobby. It doesn't really matter if it's a town a few hours away from the mad capital or a city in Europe where you can get only by flying or...in this case crossing the English Channel by ferry. All that really matters is getting away for the weekend. Monika, my Slovak friend with whom I'm sharing a flat in Wimbledon has decided to tag along, so we joined a group of excited students on a promising trip to Boulogne. Boulogne is a small fisherman town on the coast of France, very close to Calais. It took us ages to get there, although we left London from Shephard's Bush before sunrise. There were major delays on the way and as it happened, we also had the ... read more

One week it's sun and snow from a distance and the next it's in the thick of the swirly white stuff! In a particularly busy travel period of weekend trips it was up early Saturday morning and off to St Pancras for the Eurostar to Lille in France. This has to be the best invention in the world. Catch the tube to Kings Cross St Pancras, be ready 30 mins before departure, through French customs before boarding the train and an hour or so later you are walking out in the middle of town in a completely different world (with much better food). As Astrid and I only had 2 days to make the most of our weekend in Lille we found our hotel (right near the station) to drop off the bags before heading into ... read more

I have been here for almost three months now and I thought I would just write a little over view of my thoughts about being here and things like that.. Well I already am learning so much about different cultures, different perspectives, different languages, different faces, different everything but yet at the same time I am learning that no matter where you are you will always find things that are similar as well. You are who you are and the people you meet and the places you go just help to add to your character. I find myself really thinking about life and looking back at all the wonderful thing that I took for granted and all the things that I will forever be greatful for. It's funny how we all have so many things that ... read more
