After a little sleep in, we finally made it out to Sacre Coeur to have a look around, which Mum had been raving about all trip and waiting for her chance to go back to it. We had had the same idea as a lot of people, although we decided to forego the funicular (cable car thingee) and climb all the steps up to the church instead, so that wasnt quite so crowded. It was a grey and misty day, so we didnt have much of a view over the city, but the view inside more than made up for it. Its a lot plainer than some of the other churches we had seen, but i think that added to the charm. After spending some time sitting down and gazing around and admiring, we headed out ... read more

Finally the time had come to brave the Louvre. We headed out reasonably early to get there to start queueing, but we still dismayed at the crowds that were already queueing there to get in. But just as we got to the end of the line to take our places, we were directed off by staff to another side entrance, and ended up only having to wait for 45 minutes to get in, which, if any of you have already been there you would know, is a very reasonable amount of time for the Louvre. Once inside we wandered through all sorts of French and Italian masterpieces, and had a sneak peek at the Mona Lisa (i dont see what the big deal is, personally). However the crowd that was about 17 people thick seemed to ... read more

On the last day of our 21 day train ticket, we headed off to do some serious shopping in Troyes. We hopped on the train for the hour or so ride over to Troyes, and arrived to some rainy weather. We started off having a look at some churches, which were beautiful (one in particular which was built around 1100 and took our breath away), but unfortunately we had arrived at lunchtime and didnt get to have a look at a lot of them. And after a little while the rain turned to hail, and the streets became incredibly slippery and hazardous. We decided to forego the churches (since we had already seen a whole lot anyway) and hopped on the bus to head out to the shopping malls/outlet stores. And there were a lot of ... read more

Today we headed off to parc Asterix for the day. We weren't sure if we were going to be able to get to the park as it usually closes in October for the winter, but for the last couple of years they have just opened for two weeks over the Christmas/New Year period, so we got to go along (with a bunch of karaoke-singing teenyboppers on the bus, thats a whole different story). However a lot of the rides were closed because of the ice on the tracks, and it was cold. However, this didnt dampen our enthusiasm and we still managed to have fun. While Tesni and i were waiting in line for our first roller coaster, they had a 'technical incident' and we had to wait about 10 minutes while they got things up ... read more

After mum let us lie in and we had sorted ourselves out (Tesni was comfortable on the couch, and didnt snore too much thank goodness) we headed off to take in the sights at the Musee d'Orsay. We stopped a Metro stop away and walked through the park next to the Louvre so we could have a quick look around as we walked, and then waited in line for about 45 minutes or so to get in. The musee used to be a train station and has the most amazing clock in the side that is seen both on the outside and the inside, and lends itself well to the museum it has become. The crowds werent too bad, so we got to have a good look at everything, and their collection of art is very ... read more
