Na een mooi-weer ferryvaart, deze voormiddag in Cherbourg-haven op het vooropgestelde tijdstip aangekomen. Daarmee zit onze Ierland tocht erop. Het was een mooie trip door een prachtige natuur van een land met een rijke en tevens bewogen geschiedenis. Zelfs het kille Ierse weer viel tenslotte nog mee. We zijn eigenlijk nooit echt nat geregend. Behalve gedurende enkele nachten dan, maar dan mocht het. Het prachtig weer bij aankomst in Normandië is wel een opsteker en een stimulans om de vakantie nog wat te rekken. Zonder druk programma dan. Wij trokken naar de Mont-Saint-Michel. 175km tolvrije autoroute, weinig verkeer, 28° en terug rechts rijden, Wat een luxe ! Nog geen nieuwe foto's. Entre Rouen et Lisieux, dans un paysage verdoyant de bocages et de pommiers, Le Bec-Hellouin est un village typique de Normandie aux maisons à pans de bois et balcons fleuris. Il tient son nom du ruisseau qui le borde et du fondateur de sa célèbre abbaye qui, avec le monastère des Bénédictines, témoigne de l'intense activité religieuse du site. Et notre ami Didier, animateur n°1 du Blog Zourdumonde.... nous dit : Il est bien connu que chaque village de France se targue d'avoir hébergé une personnalité plus ou moins connue. YAY! Day 1 at Paris After leaving Singapore the night before, flying to Germany then to Paris, we finally arrived at the airport to find that Maurane (my old aupair from France) not there to meet us so we contacted her and apparently she was stuck on the subway to traveller discomfort, so we kind of meet her at the airport. Soon after all the buisness about the hotel was over we caught the subway to meet aude (Maurane's BFF) for lunch. Then we went to Mont Marte, it was so cool! 3RD DAY AT FRANCE! Omaha beach, The Museum gift shop, American war memorial and The world war ll cemetery ! We got up to have a delicious breakfast then we started our day. First we drove to Omaha beach and learnt a lot about the wars. Then we drove to the Museum but thought about going in to the museum but then decided that we weren't going to go in and just stayed in the gift shop. Then we went to Bayeux town and got a pastry, an ice-cream and some macaroons for desert. Doug was the third eldest of the 6 Kelley children that reached adulthood. The eldest 4 were all boys the youngest 2 - girls - Ruth (1928 - 2018) and Dorothy (1934 - ) nicknamed tiny by her elder brothers. Doug first enlisted July 20, 1941 at 16 - he lied about his age and used his father’s name. He was trained/training to be a vehicle mechanic. His father wrote a letter to the Minister of National Defence asking that Doug be kept in Canada - he in fact was discharged for being underage - Saving private Kelley part 1....
