Did you see this? There are more Rues Victor Hugo and Places Charles de Gaulle than you can shake a (French) stick at, but whilst over 60% of the country’s road names celebrate famous French men, only url=https://www.20minutes.fr/societe/2294867-20180622-egalite-entre-femmes-hommes-passe-aussi-feminisation-noms-rue6% nationwide honor the country’s women. In Paris, the figure is even more paltry at 2%. One place where the gender imbalance is being addressed, albeit slowly, is in Lyon, France’s third-largest city in the east of the country. Leave it to the French! We are no better here in the U.S. Nearly 5,000 streets are named Washington. I am certain it was George, not Martha, Grover, Gene, Kenny, or ??

... read more

We are back in Paris for the last leg of our trip. We rented a one bedroom Airbnb apartment in the Opera district. We are on the fourth floor but we can still hear and feel the underground metro. On the upside we are half block from the metro station and we have earplugs to block the noise. We have been to Paris multiple times this trip and years ago so we decide to do something different and that is Paris Disneyland. We buy tickets online which includes a bus ride from Paris. Paris Disneyland has two parks Disneyland and the Disney Studios, we decide to only visit Disneyland. The bus has three stops and one stop is a five minute walk from our apartment in the Opera district. The bus picks us up at 8:30 am ... read more

Our flight to Paris was slightly delayed, but all went well until we went to collect our bikes. Mine appeared pretty quickly, but Lynn's did not! We got help from the Air France luggage desk, and eventually the bike showed up, about 3 hours later. Fortunately our train to St-Malo left in the evening, so we had time to do a few errands in Paris, like getting French SIM cards - and Covid tests. We needed these because our pass saintaires still haven't arrived. If you have a negative test, this is good for 72 hours. The train left right on time and took us all the way to St-Malo. We arrived around 21:30 and rode to the hotel in the dark. Completely exhausted after well more than 24 hours awake!... read more

Our first international trip since Covid. We have had our vaccinations We have been watching the news which is not good but we decide if they let us in we are going. Our flight went well, we wore masks except when we ate or drank. I have a hard time sleeping on a plane and this flight was no different. We arrive around 7 am and took a taxi to our hotel. We booked Maison Astor using Hilton points. Even though check in was not until 3 pm they checked us into our room. We were tired and rested until lunch. Our first stop was a pharmacy where we paid 10 Eros to get a French Health Pass. We showed the pharmacy our passports and vaccination cards. They gave us a ehealth pass. At lunch were ... read more

Continuing to enjoy the Heygo Virtual Tours garden festival tours, this afternoon it was the turn of Paris. Jardin des Plantes - Paris. One of the world’s foremost botanical gardens. Created in 1635 as a medicinal garden for Louis XIII, the Garden of Plants has been used throughout the centuries by botanists, doctors and pharmacists. Today we were able to enjoy just part of the 28 hectares. The perennial beds were full of colour, The Rose Garden was still showing plenty of blooms & The Alpine Garden was rather special creating an atmosphere of a secret garden. The huge Lebanon cedar tree was planted in 1734 by the botanist Bernard de Jussieu. The beautiful glass-houses are divided in different sections, each with a different topic hence different artificial climates and plant species. As we wandered around ... read more

Before we left home, I’d read about buying picnic stuff on Rue Cler, a pedestrian street then taking everything to have a picnic at the Eiffel Tower. Zaya was so excited about doing this after I told her about it. We had to 1st get our Covid test before entering the UK so had found a place for walk-in testing. We got our tests then hopped on a bus to the Eiffel Tower. The Rue Cler was within walking distance to the Eiffel Tower. We found a fresh baguette, cheese, meats, salads and wine. The meats looked like salami but we were sternly advised that they were not salami, but rather sausages! As we had brought our picnic supplies from home: plates, flatware, a table cloth and cloth napkins, we were set for a proper picnic. ... read more
