“Uh, I cannot find your breakfast, she says she has left out breakfast, but I cannot find it. I am so sorry. So sorry, sorry,” he repeated while pacing back and forth. Lisa and I both tried to interrupt his rapid apology and calm him down. “Let me look again, uh you, um, you um…” he did a three sixty degree turn and held up his hands, looking around again before Lisa and I told him we were more than comfortable sitting where we were. “Juice? Coffee? Tea?” he offered in way of compensation. “Coffee,” I said. “Juice,” Lisa replied simultaneously. Poor man, he did not know what to do, get our drinks or find breakfast. He fired up the coffee machine and brought out two juices and two coffees, then with one hand to his ... read more

Today was a long day and our first day of not having classes. After not getting a lot of sleep last night (some of the group went to a club and when they came home I got up and talked to them for several hours--finally going to bed at 4 a.m. or so), we slept in today, which was quite nice! We got ready, but unfortunately, there is no hot water. Actually, there is no hot, warm, lukewarm, room temperature, or cold water. There is only freezing ice water. Taking a shower sort of makes you feel like you're in the movie Titanic. Anyway, after defying death and frostbite in the shower (I was shivering when I got out, I kid you not), the five of us decided to be tourists and go to the Charles ... read more

Today was our first day of complete freedom! And it really was a great day of fun times- Except for our little water situation. Umm..for the past few days we have had no hot water. Which makes showering quite fun- the water is literally the temperature of ice water. I took the quickest shower ever this morning- shivering the entire time; and sometimes it was so cold it hurt! We went down to the reception desk to ask them about it, and I think they said it was a problem in all of Dejivicka (our area of town). We’ll see though… But anyway… we left kinda late (at around 12:30) but we decided it might be a nice day for checking out the famous Charles Bridge. It’s basically the biggest tourist attraction in all of Prague, ... read more

Prague (16th-19th July) We were very lucky with the weather in both Vienna and Prague. The sun continued to shine and it was really quite hot. Walking Tour The walking tour of Prague over a few hours took us through the New Town, Old Town, Jewish Quarter, Lesser Quarter and on to the Prague Castle on the other side of Charles Bridge. Prague is certainly a very beautiful city both during the day and at night. Czech Beer Garden The Czech's are very proud of their beer so it would be an offence not to spend some time in some of their lovely beer gardens. Bohemian Crystal Bohemia is one of many names that the now Czech Repuplic was known as. Hence, home of Bohemian Crystal. The city is filled with loads of glass and crystal ... read more

Today was yet another exciting day of class, although slightly better than yesterday. The groups working on the Branding Presentation for the Czech Republic merged, so I was able to work with slightly more competent people. The program itself is kind of a mess--there is definitely a difference between the US education system and the CR education system. The Charles University students put together two good presentations to familiarize the American students with the Brands CR and USA. This was fine, but we all felt kind of dumb since we had nothing prepared for them. We felt that they had done all of this research on branding the US and we had done absolutely none on the CR. Anyway, when it came time to work on final presentations, the Charles University professor really just wanted us ... read more

Prague/ Bratislava/ Brno/ Cesky Krumlov Following the World Cup- being disappointed not only by the US but then that Argentina lost as well- I headed east to the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Vienna in the final days of June and early July. Things were clearly picking up on the eastern front, the weather was great and summer tourism was getting into full blossom. Prague, my first destination, is the talk of Europe now and Vaclavske Square is filled with tourists. Pavlina had also come over from San Francisco back to her home country for a visit so it was great having a 'local guide' who spoke the native language and knew the local beer. After first crossing the Charles Bridge 7 years ago, I was excited to see how the city has changed and what all ... read more

today was another day of class-- it was strange going on a saturday, but we have a lot to do before we present on tuesday. we started at 10, and finished up the day around 4...yeah it was a long day... lol i guess not too much to write about: my small group joined up with the other USA team, and we meshed all of our brainstorming together. this took quite some time because we had to put together this outline answering various questions like: what is the basic situation of the brand?, why is it necessary to develop a brand image for the USA?, who is/are the target group(s)?, what is the expected effect on the target group?, what is the brand position and personality?, what is the unique proposal and promise?, what are the ... read more

So after blogging yesterday, two friends and I went downstairs to one of the (yes, there is more than one) pubs in the basement of our dorm. So to answer everyone's Pivo-related (Czech language lesson for the day: pivo = beer) questions, yes, I like it, it tastes good (better than American beer, I am told), no it is not expensive (between 20-25 Kc, or about $1) and, no, I do not have an addiction/obsession. This morning was the beginning of work on our presentations. That was an...interesting...experience. We broke up into small groups of five to work on our presentations. Well some of the Czech students have internships and jobs at ad agencies, so some of them are not able to make it too all class meetings. Anyway, two of the people in my group ... read more

I think it is safe to say Prague is the coolest city I have ever been to. There are castles and huge churches everywhere all along cobblestone streets. Just walking around not doing anything other than looking at the buildings is great. We are planning on staying here for several days and just chilling out. Theres a bridge thats really famous called Charles Bridge or something like that, which always has a million street performers. There was a bling woman playing piano and singing a bunch of Ave Marias today which was great. Prague is really cheap to which is great, I had half a roast duck for around 7 euro the other night and our hostel is only 14. Our hostel is really weird, they are converted college dorm rooms so they feel kind of ... read more
