Our first day was spent doing the "Ultimate Tour" which was a whopping six hours of mainly walking. This included: * Astrological Clock - Apparently they blinded the clock-maker after he finished this clock to stop him making another like it. He managed to sabotage it though, and it took them more than 100 years to get it working again. * a Riverboat tour (where we sat across with 2 girls from Perth who gave us some 50% off coupons... Score!) * walked through the Jewish Quarter, where the cemetery is apparently 12 layers of dead deep. * Prague Castle - the guards in their baby blue full-length uniforms looked like they were about to topple over in the sweltering 33 degree heat. That night, I took Bronson to his first classical concert in the Municipal ... read more

Our drive to Prague was very interesting. Our GPS tried to send us on roads that didn’t exist and we ended up driving through cow paddocks and hay bales. The funniest part came when Pip said “I think that you can expect all the roads to Prague to be like this!” In all seriousness, I also programmed the second cars GPS to speak in German so watching them pull over completely confused was piss funny! We eventually got to the Czech border and got pulled over for passport checks and cavity searches. Quite nervewracking but I made friends with a big Czech woman with a moustache called Frieda!!! We got to our hotel in Prague, The Savoy. We were greeted at the door like royalty, staff came running from all directions to cater to our every ... read more

so here we are in prague just finishing up our first day... After our taxi drama, settling at the hostel, and all of that, we headed out toward the old town square and then toward the charles bridge. tired and gross we,just thought we'd do some wandering before dinner. we eventually chose a little cafe where i had myself a pilsner and some roast pork with cabbage and dumplings. since this is clearly a food journal i've attached a picture of both. :-) back in the square, there was a big jumbotron up for the germany-italy game but we just headed back toward the hostel. there we ended up talking with these two vegan girls from florida for a couple of hours about all kinds of things from social justice to feminism. we hit the sack ... read more

We made full use of our one day in Krumlov. He a huge breakfast and then went off to mail packages home and lighten the load. We went out to the country, it's only a couple of miles from town to a riding club and took a trail ride up into the hills surrounding the town. The view was incredible, we went around a abandoned monastry and chapel and stopped to see the city from above....came back down through the forest. One of the highlights of the trip. The whole city is an UNESCO site and I keep expecting to run into people dressed in medieval clothes at any second and by golly we did..on the way up to the castle we ran into people dressed in period costume advertizing a jousting tournament riding horses. We ... read more

i realized that i have used the words "beautiful" "gorgeous" "Amazing" and "incredible" more times in the past few weeks than i have my whole life. but it's true, some of the things we've seen have been so heartstopping you just have to let your jaw drop open and stare. example: today we went on a horseback ride. it was alot of fun, i haven't riden a horse in years, but i remembered why i took lessons for so long, getting on a horse and then riding into the forest, is so peaceful, it gives you a chance to think and silently meditate on everything you forget about when you're too busy doing other things. we went up the most beautiful hills, and saw the whole town layed out below us. it was definitly one of ... read more

We arrived here after a long ride......two trains, took most of the day but we did get to see Prague too. We went to the Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral....hope the pictures come out good. Went jewelerly shopping ....again. Sarah you would love Prague...it reeks of amber, and I'm talking GREAT BIG amber. Krumlov is like something out of a story book.....a big looming castle is right outside our hostel and all the streets are cobblestoned, twisty and tiny. It's out in the middle of nowhere, but it's been here since the 1200's. We're going to go exploring tomorrow, do our wash, or rather have it done for us, and find a box!!1 Time to lighten the load and send more stuff home........ GARY: Tell Trooper to hang in there...I'll be home soon......Love to all... read more

we leave here to go to another town at 4, but a quick update before that. last night when we were travelingt o the train station, we got on the bus and asked for tickets for both of us. we were handed 4 tickets total, and when the officials came onto the bus, they asked to see them (in most countriesd they have people that hop on occasionally to check tickets) we gave them ours and then they stopped the train and told us we had to get off. outside, they explained we didn't have tickets. we showed them what we had just bought and they told us that we needed seperate tickets for every piece of luggage. one guy was really loud, and he pissed me off. we told him we didn't know this, and ... read more

We're in Prague just for the day. Got here at 7:00 this morning after taking the overnight train from Krakow. Really enjoyed Krakow until we were ready to leave town. The hostel was clean, we had a huge room in a historic building and the hostel owners were so nice. Our room wasn't clean when we got there, and we had a double bed instead of twin beds; their cleaning lady had gotten into a car accident and broke her leg!! Everything was fixed though, and they kept appologizing profusely. Even gave us a box of chocolate!! We also had the best breakfast in any hostel we've stayed in. We took the bus tour to Auschwitz/Birkenau..our guide was fabulous; it was the first time I've been with that many young people who were stunned into silence..they ... read more
