I visited Brussels for 2 days in June 2006. This was a beautiful town where you could walk around for ages. They have the newer part of town as well as the old part of town. You can walk around for ages no problem just need the right route. For me I prefered the Old Town better. The Old Town starts right by the Old Royal Palace and once you walk down the street/stairs you start seeing the old part of town. Below are some of the sites I saw * Grand Palace (Very Middle) * Old Stock Market * Old Royal Palace/Garden * Lots of Cathedrals * Opera House * Manneken dis Statue (peeing statue) * And more Outside of that part you also have the newer part which is the European Union part of ... read more

Hi everyone, We arrived safely in Geraardsbergen (west of Brussels) (Campsite is called Camping de Gavers). We found it no problem but then we had to find the camp site !! An hour and a half later and after driving up and down the same roads we found our very badly signed camp site. There were only two signs from the main road and they were facing the same way that we were going so didn't see any of them. As it was bank holiday monday it was quite busy when we arrived, later that day there were only two other campers..........lovely!!! The camp site is lovely its got a huge lake, swimming pool, with jacquzzi's and mini rapids. Thought we'd start the holiday with a run round the lake, not realising its about 4km and ... read more

Day 2 Arrived: Brussels or Bruxelles, Belgium (midday) Gone.. Go Trippin' Brussels is a great side trip if you're on your way to Amsterdam. We had a wonderful afternoon hanging out in and around the Grote Markt (Market Square)-- a picturesque town square with 14th century stone buildings. It was unfortunate that we both had major allergies. We had to eat inside-- that's how bad it was. In midst lunch, I had to run to a nearby Pharmacy because Gerard's sinus was preventing him from enjoying anything. For some reason, Claritin and other allergy meds from the states did not work overseas for us. But we didn't let that stop us from having some Belgium classics-- fries & chocolates. Do's Don'ts DO try fries with mayonnaise-- that's how they do it. Don't affend anyone by asking ... read more

We got up really early to be sure we would have time to complete the walking tour that Raf set up for us the night before. We were up by 8, then off by 9. We walked all over the city of Brussels. We went to the Royal Palace, the EU, NATO, the park, Old Town Square, the peeing statue, St Nicholas, and St Michaels. We found all of our normal tourist gifts, and by 1:30 we were back at the hotel. The whole tour took about 4 hours, but it was great, and coupled with the driving tour from last night, it was an awesome way to see the city. We also had great food in Brussels. The steak at dinner with unreal, and the Belgium Waffles today were so much better than I thought. ... read more

We went out in the morning after a huge breakfast, and got the usual postcards and other necessities. We got a later ticket than we wanted on the super high speed train to Brussels, which left at 2:25. But it only took like an hour and twenty minutes so it was fine. We had a beautiful trip, and we all rested and slept. As usual, we met about 10 othe Americans in our train car, and we talked about our trips and exchanged places to see and stay. We are like all part of a huge family, and its really nice to run into new people daily. When we got to Brussels, the Metro was easy, as they all are now that we are world travelers. We found our hotel, checked-in, showered, and by 4 we ... read more

This will be my last entry before I fly to Bucharest tomorrow afternoon. I am leaving Western Europe for the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains in Romania to volunteer at the Pro Vita Organization's orphanage. This is a major part of my trip since I will be there almost a month. This trip originated with the idea of visiting the orphanage and I am extremely excited to finally be going. I heard from the orphanage a few days ago and it sounds like they can use some additional help. The Danube has been filling with rain this past month and much of the South East of Romania has been suffering from flooding. Apparently this means most of the phone lines are not reliable. I am not sure what the flooding means for the orphanage. I will ... read more

Phill, Katy, and I ventured to Brussels this past weekend because we had Thursday off for Ascension Day. We took a train, which took us about 5 hours or so. It wasn't bad at all actually. Brussels was fantastic. I loved it tons. The only bad thing was that it rained most of the time we were there, which to me is a reason to go back. We saw Grote Markt, Mannekin Pis, St Michaels Cathedral and four other churches, and much more of the city. It really is a great place to go. We went to go tour the European Parliament, but it was closed on Friday as an extension of the holiday. I was really sad becaue I really wanted to see it, but that is another reason to go back. Brussels is definitely ... read more
