In a land known for chocolate and beer, Brussels surely did not disappoint! French fries, chocolate, waffles and beer one could lead a very happy life, fat but happy! Cobble stone streets and a palace fit for a king, Brussels lets one be swept away with its beauty and history! Arriving at 7am on a Saturday morning, one would think that there may be some people about opening coffee shops and baking waffles, waiting for the masses to ascend. This proved me wrong, these streets were dead, the only soles in the city were those of keen tourists getting early morning photos, braving the cold to do so. The Grand Place, buildings adorned with gold trimmings, gothic style steeples and cobble stone square seemed the first point of interest for those visiting this city. With chocolate ... read more

It was wonderful to see Bill, who we had travelled with in South America in 2012, at the exit gate at Brussels airport after having flown through from Vienna. He looked well and happy and so European in his long black woollen coat. We drove to he and wife Wendell's house in inner Brussells. Old friends reminiscing and planning. Wendell had to work for the three days that I had planned to be in Brussells, but Bill had graciously taken the time off work. First things first. We had to stock their fridge and pantry. Apparently mundane acts like visiting a supermarket can be interesting in a different county. I was intrigued by fact that Belgians record their own grocery purchases with an electronic scanner - no check-out chicks - completely honesty based. You buy your ... read more

Dag iedereen!

A great opportunity presented itself recently-- an opportunity at an industry-leading company with best-of-breed technology that will considerably cut down on my business related travel and provide more room for growth. The one caveat is that this company is a direct competitor to the one in which I am leaving. So when I gave my 2 weeks notice, they obviously cut me off immediately. Technically, I would be on the books for two weeks, but I would not be allowed to work, or to start my new job. That left me in a position of a forced paid vacation. Never one to pass up a chance to take a trip, I booked a ticket to Belgium. Music has always been a huge part of my life, but for many years there was one thing that trumped ... read more

Were finally on the move and sore shoulders already and i miss my stilettos - and alana misses hers too lol... We set off on Wednesday night, 10 o clock boat after many emotional emotional goodbyes and leaving parties (thanks to all our friends and family who were gonna miss sssooooo much!!). Arrived in Liverpool early on thursday morning (at least thats the most dangerous part of our trip over and done with - thank god for those injections !! lol) then train to London where we slept most of the way then onto Eurostar. The most impressive part of the Eurostar was the terminal - the train itself was ok - left and arrived on time. However we did have to fight a granny who tried to steal our seat - how rrruudeee!! While I was in Belgium, I had a lucid dream for the second time in my life. This is a dream, I said. I realized I could do anything, and it felt like I had too many options. First, I wanted to get married. Second, I wanted to see God. And I saw God. Third, I wanted to see my brother. Then, it felt like someone asked me, "are you worthy?" "I'm not worthy!" I said.... read more

And here is the second part of my final days of Erasmus - the way home via Brussels. After taking a packed out coach from Bremen at midnight, I arrived in Brussels at 7am and took my suitcases across the city to my hotel in the south. Already by half past 7, it was reaching 25˚C, and although the hotel was just 5 minutes from the station, the cobbled streets on the way there made dragging 55kg strenuous work. Luckily the hotel had storage and so I could leave my luggage there and then go off into the city with just a few bits. Firstly, I went to the European Parliament, where there was free access to the debating chamber twice a day. Afterwards I went to Jubelpark followed by Brussels' most famous attraction - the ... read more
