As I sit on my 8 hr+ plane ride back to the states for my Grandmother’s funeral, I figured it might be a good time to catch up on my blog. A lot has happened in the last couple of weeks…. First let me tell you about my trip to Brussels. I had a great plan, take the 1040 train from Soignies (closest train station to my current living arrangement). Arrive in Brussels at 1115 and meet a friend of a friend at the Starbucks in the train stations. Yes folks, there are Starbucks everywhere now, kind of like McDonalds which I have come to refer to as the embassy. Why? Because no matter where in the world you are, you can find those golden arches where you can get a cheap hot meal, a clean ... read more

Well getting to the airport is easy, my arrival was delayed with 10 min. Due this late arrival it didn't effect my check-in. Upon rearding the depature screen, my flight is delayed by 3h & 1/2. The check-in agent tell me it was due to equipment change in Atlanta. Meaning a different plane! Delta Air Lines immediately comped the passengers with a lunch voucher of €5,5 and a voucher of $100 for a future flight with the airplane which can be redeemed at any time. So instead of arriving around 14.10, the new arrival time is set around 18.00 local time in Atlanta. Buying a bottle of water is €3,3, luggage wrapping is €6.... read more

Well I arrived at Brussels International Airport at 0722 local time, which is 0122 EST. I did not sleep a wink on the plane but I did finish "The Help" which was good. I am currently sitting the the Stella Artois Cafe at the Airport. I ordered myself a hot chocolate and a ham and cheese croissant. My "Host" family is arriving shortly so I am using this time to gather my strength and wits as I am extremely tired. I have decided to use this blog as a way to keep everyone up to date on my new adventures in Europe. Please be kind as I have never blogged before and am still learning the site's many quirks. I was fortunate to have sat next to a Woman similar to my age who lives in ... read more

I love Brussels. Every time I go there I feel overwhelmed by the cities capability to encapsulate so many different cultures and ways of life. To most people travelling to Brussels, the city is one of two things. Either, it is the daily life of the machinery that is Europe. Here are the central institutions of European integration; the European Union, NATO and representations of anyone who wants to deal with Europe be it East or West, North or South. This is where Kissinger and later Obama should call when they claim that it confuses them to call Europe. It is +32 2! Or, it is a small provincial French town placed in a partly French country. It is a cozy little city where the café life resembles Paris while Christmas is celebrated by countless of ... read more

We took the train from Berlin to Prague, a known scenic route winding along the Vltava River. I recognized it from my 2006 trip and once again, I wished the train would stop for some photo op’s. We Couchsurfed in Prague with Jason, a hyper med student from California. He was very generous, offering us beer and food the whole time we were there. Within about an hour of arriving, we had our own key and he was on his way back to the university to study. After getting settled, we set off into the city for some wandering. The famed Prague Castle was close enough to Jason’s place for us to walk to. It was dark and foggy, a pity because we couldn’t see the amazing views of Prague from the castle walls, but the ... read more

Note: All the events described in this entry occurred one weekend back in November 2006. Please refer back to this blog for more updated entries and trips. A trip or entry that takes place in the present day will NOT include a note like this. Thanks and enjoy! The next day I woke up early, around 8 am so that I could enjoy some of the nice continental breakfast buffet that was set up at my hotel and also get an early start at sightseeing. They had everything-croissants, pain au chocolat, scrambled eggs, bacon, kippers, omelets, buttermilk biscuits, toast, kippers, sausage, ham eggs benedict you name it they had it for breakfast. After eating my very copious yet delicious breakfast, I went up to the concierge and asked for a map and recommendations in regards to ... read more

A trip or entry that takes place in the present day will NOT contain a note like this. Thanks and enjoy! I had always wanted to travel to Belgium, ever since I was a little girl. I had first heard about Belgium through my mom's fervent tuning in to A & E and Masterpiece Mystery episodes of the British television show based on the Hercule Poirot stories. Hearing about the character's love of chocolate and his Francophone background just made me curious. Just like I did for my trip to Poland, I purchased a guide book, Petite Fute (A French guide book brand) on Belgium. I ... read more

Brussels – there are cities nice to live and cities nice to visit Brussels is definitely nice to live. So if you are moving in: congratulations! Still this city deserves your attention when thinking about trip. I lived in Brussels for 11 months (Sept2010-July2011), studying, later doing internship. I found wonderful friends, I have great memories and I would like to share a few notes that may be useful for you: - When visiting (or living in) Brussels you cannot miss beer, fries and chocolate. Ask locals what is the best beer, everyone tells you different one. For “frites” most of people would agree on Maison Antoine, but you may find better place. If you want to try nice pralines or bring package of Belgian chocolate home, go to Place du Petit Sablon. Sometimes visiting these ... read more

I am once again going to take a trip of a lifetime. I have been very fortunate to be able to go to Europe now for five consecutive years. I can't explain how lucky I am, but I embellish each and every moment, for this one day will probably end. I fly into Brussels Belgium to start on this adventure. The plane ride was relatively smooth, and I met a nice young lady from BYU named Heather who was sitting beside me. She was meeting her friend from Washington DC, and then taking off on an adventure to Paris and Rome. When I departed the plane, it seemed like it took forever to go through passport control. Once through, I told Heather goodbye, and it was time to start my own adventure. I went to the ... read more
