D, P (Kiwi boy) , E and J (the Girls from Holland) and I travled to the Mombacho Reserve to see the fumadores, sulfuric steam streaming out of the mountian side (proof that the Volcano is still active.) the Walk there sucked 12km Away we left the monkey at 9:45 and started the hike at 1:20 here's to mass transit.... read more

We pulled into Copan Ruinas somewhere around three in the afternoon. I was sick as a dog. The only way I had been able to make the trip out of Chiquimula was by pumping myself full of no-name brand Immodium, Pepto-Bismol and Gravol. I could barely move, stand the heat or keep my eyes open. In other words I was a verrry helpful travelling partner. Right. I watched the bags, sipping what I could of a soda in a little restaurant while Chris dutifully scouted a place where I could crash. I had but one little splurge request for the night...a private bathroom! All I did was sleep for the rest of the day and night. My luck with the sicknesses hasn't exactly been A1 this time round, but I haven't gotten anything serious, so I ... read more

After leaving monteverde at 3pm, such a short visit a bit of a shame, we lost M, she decided to go back to San Jose yet again and send some stuff home, and we’ll meet her somewhere in Nicaragua. So D and I jump out of the bus in chompas to await the next bus, suddenly there is a bit of a commotion. The driver and assistant are standing looking down at the tire, which appears obviously flat. Shrugging his shoulders the assistant waves his hand out toward the tire and the driver gives it a wallop of a kick...nothing happens...seconds pass...nothing happens…With a shrug of the shoulder he reboards the bus. We haven’t heard from M since I hope she's ok. The photo here is of the evening ride to libera.... read more

I have a favorite goat at the farm. On Tuesday, I found her little ass in a huge 55 gallon feed barrel. She climbed in there because shes awesome. She stayes with the sheep, I dont know why, but she just escapes everytime we try to get her to stay with the goats. Whatever, we are gonna leave her there. I named her Chamoy. We all helped Kent distill essential oil yesterday. Lemon grass it was. Full of cuts it was as well. Last night we tried to watch a movie but the power went out. Nuts. I skipped on work today to come to the market in San Isidro. Tomorrow is a huge party. Rock. I come home in a week and a half. Sniff. But, as the Costa Ricans say every second of the ... read more

Say What! The Garifuna People: Warm, Friendly and Impossible to Understand When the bus driver told us that this was the stop for Tela we piled out of the bus into what seemed like a little bus stop on the side of the highway in the middle of nowhere. If this happens to you, follow the sign that says Tela with a bunch of hotel names underneath it. It's definitely a walkable distance if you hate taking the cabs as much as we do. If you go straight along the road you'll walk through the central park and right onto the beach. In terms of accomodations this place was a little weird. The Miramar hotel, which is recommended in the Lonely Planet was dingy, dark and altogether uninviting. We scooted out of there. The place we ... read more

On April 2, 2005, I went on the bCelebrity Cruise Line/b ship Century for a weeklong cruise. The ship was small, subdued elegant. Our cabin was mid-ship, Panorama deck 8, a pleasant and typical ocean view cabin. I was amazed at the storage space and had to check everywhere before we left to be sure nothing was left in the many hidden shelves when we packed to leave. We felt a lot of movement and I noticed several people were seasick. Seas were somewhat calm and I felt fine. My roommate however, didn't. Cruise ships wait on their own, and if you book your flight through the cruise line, they will delay departure if your flight is late. Because of this, we left port two hours late. I met the family that we waited for, and ... read more

This morning While M took her Canopy tour D and I woke at a very early hour to search for wildlife in the Santa Elena preserve, although the only wildlife we saw was a millipede and some flowers the Calls of the Three Warbled Bell Bird and the Ghostly shrieks of the quetzal made the early morning (7am) cloud forest almost deafening.... read more

D, M and I wait in the lobby for super slow free internet access. Overall the Tranquillo backpackers hostel in san jose is the best Ive been to. a great kitchen with outside dining, a tiny but effective pourch out front and most importantly bag storage. I left a pile of things here for my return trip mostly shirts and pants that I won{t need for my trip up north.... read more
