... read more

¡Hola! I'm Carynn, the girl who left college for a year without any idea, let alone a plan, of what to do instead. I know, I know, what was I thinking?! Putting off college?! Did I set myself up to wander a lonely menial path for the rest of my life with nothing but a promising career as the allegiant employee of the month at the local Mickey D's??? For most of my time spent at home it did seem as though I had fallen behind. Life felt like a 5,000 piece jigsaw puzzle to me that all of my friends had a head start on while I was left still struggling to open the damn box. I missed my friends terribly and the action of school. But as time went by and I began to ... read more

It’s been a very busy two weeks here at Angel Valley Farm B&B, up in the mountains above San Ramon! Between guests at the B&B and just wrapping up our May “Boomers in Costa Rica” relocation/retirement tour of the Central Valley, it’s enough to keep anyone out of trouble! Working this time of year, particularly outdoors, can be a challenge though. If you want to view properties, for example, you need to get out there early in the morning to catch views of the mountains and/or the ocean (at least from the San Ramon area), not to mention walking in the mud is no fun! Pothole Season is back…. This time of year with the rains brings back those ever so fun potholes. They seem to be particularly bad on the “back road” between my ... read more

Hey everyone! So, I've decided to make a travel blog for this summer since I'll be in Costa Rica for a month (leaving June 29th), and Singapore for another 3 weeks after that. I figured this way it would be easier to keep in touch with everyone and share my photos and adventures. I don't leave for another month, but I'm so excited I couldn't help by make the travel blog already. So I'll write more once I actually get to Costa Rica, for now, I just have to dream about that hammock on the beach...... read more

Hey all - This time, I’m heading down into Central America with Keith and Carla, to attend Jackie and David’s wedding. Many of Jackie’s relatives are from Guatemala, and she wanted to honor her Guatemalan family by having a wedding ceremonial in her native country (although she was born and raised in the States). Thus, a lot of friends were getting together in Guatemala for the aforementioned event. We started off in Guatemala City, and proceeded to towns of Antigua and Panajachel. There were many beautiful landscape sightings along the way, dominated by many volcanoes. It was both my and Carla’s first time for seeing an active volcano, so we were very excited. Quaint colonial towns, friendly locals, and traveling with good friends contributed into an excellent relaxing vacation. That’s it for now, until next time. ... read more

We stopped of in Jamaica today. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Rather bloody good because there was a huuuuge crew party last night with dodgy Engineer types from Indonesia cooking non descript meaqt for us. And, more importantly, there was beer. Lots of beer. beer beer beery beer. So fortunately I had the next day off until the afternoon. After dragging myself out of bed at 11 ( a blessed lie in as far as i was concerned) I decied to check out the origonal island in the sun for the short couple of hour I had before the boat left. We got ashore and after wh fought through the multitude of Rastas offering rides in their "taxis" we wandered along the caost. Ocha Rios is on the other side of Jamaica from the touristy bits - it takes about ... read more

Caye Caulker (quay corker), Belize. Ahhhhh, sandy islands, palm trees, 85degC, blue skies...a rest at last! We arrived by sea taxi from Belize City on Tuesday, I was feeling sooooo dodgy with a combination of dehydration and too much sun but it was so nice to finish the long haul trip across Guatemala to Belize which meant two night stops from Palenque to Flores (Guatemala) to see more Mayan Ruins and then Belize City, all of that in insanely hot cramped buses with all trips 5hrs+ over bad bad roads kinda took it's toll on us. First of all I have to say the people and culture here is FANTASTIC!! Every single local person bursts with smiles and a wonderfully laid back attitude, you barely pass a person as you meander down the sandy tracks ... read more

Ok so lets get it over with - we got robbed! Day bloomin two in Costa Rica and we got our daybags stolen on the bus, including our passports, money, camera etc etc. It was a very slick operation but in the end I´m sorry to say we fell for the old dropping-the-money-stoopid-turistas-help-man-pick-up-his-dosh-whoosh-bags-gone-into-waiting-car routine. So needless to say the following days were spent sorting stuff out. In the end its all replacable but just extremely frustrating and annoying to say the least. We spent a couple of days in La Fortuna which is a small town with a huge active volcano at the end of the main street. If you are lucky you can see it spouting lava at nightime and can trek closer to see it. We didn´t have much time or inclination for that ... read more
