Well it was a very amusing wake up. I was wet with my head down at the wrong side of my bed. We all exchanged stories then went out for a very late breakfast. It was cloud covered and for once we didn't mind. The whole day was spent watching movies and reading. The town is getting read for carnival so a bunch of guys in costumes chase the locals. They are dressed like devils and hit the ground with whips to make loud cracking sounds. It looked entertaining as teens ran around the devils trying to grab them without getting hit. After lazing about all day we just went to bed early to get a good day in tomorrow.... read more

Today I awoke around 8:30am and wandered down to make another pancake breakfast. I settled in a comfy seat and read a book for most of the morning. The others came down later and went out for breakfast, opting not to eat pancakes. We all just hung out in the hostel for the rest of the day, alternating between sleeping and laying down in the common area. I wandered through town checking out the shops but couldn't sum up much energy to do more. It was cloud covered so we decided to chill and go to a different island tomorrow instead. Tonight is ladies night on a little island a minute boat ride away so we need to rest up for that. Oh boy, I will refrain from the details but we all got really drunk. ... read more

Alright, up-and-at-em. I rolled out of my bunk and headed downstairs for breakfast. This hostel has a free pancake breakfast so I made myself a huge plate of them and settled down in the common area to eat and wait for the guys. One by one they awoke and we headed into town for some more food. After loading up we jumped into a boat to head to one of the little islands. There are tons around this area, all with massive white beaches. It really looks like picture book material. So our little boat took off with 6 of us aboard heading to Wizard beach. There was some huge swells twice the size of the boat but that didn't purturb our local driver who, with his 200hp motor, launched us over them. We would smash ... read more

This is one of the first travel days that had a relaxed wake up. Our bus left at 10:30am so we had time to get breakfast and stroll leisurely to the bus. It was sweltering hot and a long bus ride was not what we were looking forward to. Matt, Justin, and I had to stand most of the way while Morris managed to find a seat. The ride was about two hours to the border. We jumped off expecting the usual border hassle but to our surprise it started nicely. We checked out of costims in Costa Rica quickly and were off towards the Panama check in. This was where we got the usual rip-off. We couldn't get into the country unless we had proof we were leaving. No paper proof=no entry so they made ... read more

I was sad about leaving Colombia, in my heart I considered myself a 'paisa' (a paisa is someone from Medellin and the Antioquia part of Colombia) but somehow I was excited about exploring central America especially Nicaragua and Mexico..........I had the worst experience ever at the Colombian airport, my bags were searched - I mean taking out everything from the bag and even broke open one of my tampons, I do not know what they were looking for ......I was almost crying, anyways that is the past. Finally I was in Panama, I stayed in a hostel that is extremely hyped -Lunas Castle, for me it was just a big hostel with too many people and unclean. I met a girl from Texas on my very first day and together with other peeps from Israel , ... read more

Last night in Bocas

On the way to Bocas on the minibus, I thought that I heard Swedish but it was Norwegian. I recognize this because of the numbers, they are the same (5 = fem / 8 = åtta). So I talked with the girls and they seemed to understand Swedish very well. Finally I arrived in Bocas del Toro. After a long trip with the bus from San Jose in Costa Rica till Changuinola and afterwards with a shared taxis to Almirante and finally with the water taxi from Almirante to Bocas del Toro island. It was a long trip till here but it was worth! The island is very beautiful and very green. Typical American houses all over the place. A lot of people going diving or surfing here. For the first night we sleep at Mondo ... read more

We left Puerto Viejo a little behind schedule and made our way into Panama. First stop was in Bocas del Toro; a chain of islands on the Western Caribbean coast of Panama. The vibe here was really cool. To get to the hostel we were staying at, you had to take water taxis there and back. Everything has a relaxed feeling to it. We came with the dancers and an Ozy named Mike. We ended up finding a house that a guy rented out to us for a good price, and got hooked up with a local guy who wanted to go surfing. The second day we were there, a swell came through and we finally got to surf some Caribbean waves. The waves broke over a shallow reef and if you fell on a big ... read more

woke up today to non-rainy weather...a good day for another boat trip we felt!! Did a trip with another tour company today, the captain was much nicer and had a lovely Caribbean accent. First stop was Dolphin Bay; you cant swim here as there are hundreds of jellyfish (which you could see!) For a while we saw nothing, then other boats in the area all headed towards an area and we caught a glimpse of a fin!! We could have seen 2, we could have seen 20, they all look the same and we only saw 2 at a time!! (we would post pictures of them here, but the pics really arent that interesting..we e not going to lie, the dolphins werent performing tricks and jumping out of the water. but it was still amazing to ... read more

Not much to say about here. We arrived, decided it wasn´t so great and would leave the next day. 4 days later....we were still there. After trying to leave every day and failing we finally realised what the problem was and figured out the only way to solve our dilema. The problem: 2 americans, Frank and Annelies. We just had a little too much fun chilling at the beach and partying at night together. The solution: To take them with us wherever we went. So, Bocas del Toro = Sunbathing, Red Frog Beach (with no Red Frogs), The best sandcastle we have made so far, Frank, Annelies, 3 missed busses, 2 curry dinners, and one eventual (and very amusing) border crossing to Costa Rica. Awesome.... read more
