Central America Caribbean November 18th 2009

Hej Well the trip is finished and I started again study at least a couple of hours in the past days to keep me busy. I’m also listening to a lot of songs on my IPod to enjoy these last days on the hammock. Yesterday I heard Swedish and I asked if it was Swedish. And it was, the Swedish group was amazed for the fact that I’m learning Swedish :-). They came from Visby (Gotland). This was the last post for this trip. A lot happens so far and I hope to be able to travel again in few months from now. I’m already planning two trips and we’ll see what happens. See you soon Alexandre ... read more

Central America Caribbean November 17th 2009

Hi all, Last day in San Jose: It’s cold and we are hanging out at the hostel. Perhaps tomorrow I can do the last day trip around San José. I finally meet two Swedish native speakers from Skåne. :-) Finally I could introduce myself and practice a little bit. I was nervous but they had patience with me :-) I also could clarify some doubts that I had. Curiosity: They’re going to Brazil for the carnival. They’re so lucky! Because at that time I’ll be on the Belgian cold winter :-( Alexandre... read more

On the way to Bocas on the minibus, I thought that I heard Swedish but it was Norwegian. I recognize this because of the numbers, they are the same (5 = fem / 8 = åtta). So I talked with the girls and they seemed to understand Swedish very well. Finally I arrived in Bocas del Toro. After a long trip with the bus from San Jose in Costa Rica till Changuinola and afterwards with a shared taxis to Almirante and finally with the water taxi from Almirante to Bocas del Toro island. It was a long trip till here but it was worth! The island is very beautiful and very green. Typical American houses all over the place. A lot of people going diving or surfing here. For the first night we sleep at Mondo ... read more

Hi from the rain forest. (no I’m not tarzan!) A nice 2 days trip to Tortuguero, it reminds me a lot of the Amazon rain forest Finally I meet a Belgian citizen. Yes! Or better ‘Ja wel’. On the bus to Tortuguero, I meet Dries (from Hasselt - Limburg). We will keep in touch! The trip was long but it was nice to see the rain forest and we have stopped at Del Monte (banana plantation) and at a beautiful garden with a lot of flowers, butterflies and red frogs. During the boat trip starts the rain and I was pretty wet after few minutes because I didn’t bring my jacket :-( The channels on Tortuguero are larger than the ones in the Amazon but we could see some crocodiles, frogs, caimans, a lot of birds ... read more

Hi from the Pacific! The pacific is really nice. San Juan del Sur is the place to be for who likes to surf. Everyone that I saw so far, is caring a surfboard. But the town is pretty nice, even if is really small. It’s so easy to go around. Hotel Casa D’Oro was so far the best place to stay. I really enjoy the common spaces and also the free fast internet. I also walked on the beach, quite nice for an afternoon with a nice sunset and my lemonade. See ya soon... read more

Hello all, When I first heard of Granada, I must at the same moment, thing about Granada in Spain. The city is very colourful and the streets are very clean. It’s easy to go around and enjoy a lemonade or just to grab a beer and stay outside, because it’s too damn hot! 3 days are totally enough to stay here. I went to Laguna de Apoyo, Pueblos Blañcos and Isletas. Besides you still have Granada itself to discover and it’s really nice. It makes me remember of Salvador or Manaus in Brazil. I always have a déjà vu feeling :-) Next stop: San Juan Del Sur (Pacific Coast) and going back to Costa Rica. See ya... read more

Hi all, After 11 hours in a ferry, I arrived to Alta Gracia in Ometepe island. For sure the highlight of this hole trip! There isn’t much to do than walking, looking for nice view’s to take a picture and climb both volcano’s (Maderas and Concepción). I climb Maderas but just to the view point where I could see both sides of the river (see picture). The hostel was really nice and I saw a lot of birds. In another walking I could see some of the pyhyroglifics in stones around the hostel. Ometepe is really a place to be on earth, it was really amazing to do hiking and climbing here. Next stop: Granada ... read more

Hi from Nicaragua my friends! A long trip, another long trip with the boat, hahahaha, I think that you expect the word "bus" but this time is boat! It's quite choking to arrive in San Carlos, I got the same feeling when I first arrived to Ciudad del Leste in Paraguay. Both are pretty the same, chaotic, a lot of traffic with people trying to sell you something. A lot of hi-fi made in …. who knows :-) To get to Boca de Sabalos, I took the boat and stopped on the way to sleep one night in a lodge. The place was quite nice actually and made easy to get to the fortress on the next day but when I arrived there, the fortress was closed! It’s first of November so they close also on ... read more

Hi from La Fortuna! After another long trip by bus, I arrived here. Now I’m tired and it's raining. I cannot see the Arenal volcano but it's there somewhere. La Fortuna (The luck) is a nice town. Pretty small and organized. There is a lot of places to go around and grab a coffee or a milk shake (batido). In the afternoon I went to the Arenal Volcano with group tour till the view point and we’re supposed to see the lava coming out from the volcano but after two hours the tour guide decided to bring us back to the city. So I didn’t see the lava. But the view from the Volcano is amazing. I enjoyed the time here and I could walk to the La Fortuna waterfall, another nice place to go since ... read more

Hi all, Apparently I’ll always write ‘it was a long trip by bus” on my posts. I think that in this trip most of the time we will be on the bus going somewhere or trying to get somewhere. Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui is really green. I'm loving to hear the birds and it's a quite place comparing with San José. I already saw toucans, woodpeckers and a lot of birds on the garden of the hostel. There isn’t much to see here but I decided to go in a tour to the national park not far from the hostel. The guide explained about the project in the park Braulio Carrillo and I could see some animals and a lot of exotic plants. I also could spot a bat hanging in one tree. The guide explained ... read more
