Here i am, made it to utila. It's a really cool little island with lots of tourists, parties, and diving. When I got here, I came with a few people I met on the boat, and we all went to this dive shop. The guy was cool, and he told us about what he offerred. We all signed up with him. It was the biggest class he'd ever had, with 19! We spent late nights studying diving, long times under the water, but now I'm a certified open water diver! I can scuba dive--self-contained underwater breathing device is what it stands for. My first night here, this guy Bruce told us to come up to his bar, the Jade Sea Horse. He said it was like a fairy tale, and it was, it was truly amazing. ... read more

Hey friends and family! I'm currently in an internet cafe, being charged by the minute... eeek! I just wanted you to all know that I'm safe and having a wonderful vacation so far in Roatan. My hotel is literally 10 steps from the dive shop. They're owned by the same people. I have a room in the main house. The upstairs of the main house is where the owners live with their kids, and then our rooms downstairs are just rooms off of the wrap around porch that goes around the entire house. My room is small and simple, but perfect for what I need... and only $12US a night! The smell reminds me of the wood cabins at Bimini... oh the memories! The showers are cold and it's a shared bathroom but I've never had ... read more

It´s a pagan festival, where the famliy and friends get together and eat good food, enjoy good company, etc. I will be celebrating from Utila, a tropical island. This is not the usual way...but I hope it proves agreable. So...my best holiday wishes to all. With Love, From Colin... read more

Roatan on the fast The most desired 'excursion' (cruise lingo for something to do on land) was unfortunately full-up in Honduras. The Roatan Segway beach tour filled to capacity only 3 minutes after tickets were released, and well before I had the opportunity to snag a spot. (Segways are the new age people movers the work based on balance- check the microsoft campus for more info/sightings) Instead I bartered for the next best in the two wheeler category. After some bidding with the local mafioso, we arranged for some scooters, (as he hasslehoffed the native ladies, who didn't seem to much to appreciate and or absorb his slazy (combo-word) persona.) 20 bucks later John and I (my cousin of near exact age) were on our way. To where you ask? At the time and even to ... read more

Today, Hula Girl fell in love with the windy beaches of Roatan, Honduras. She got a full body massage, and chilled with some locals. Her first waves of resentment towards bartel hit her like the waves of the ocean crashing in front of her, why did he keep her locked up for so long? why not explore the world? All was soon forgotten, as she was liberated by this new sense of freedom, possibly aided by her first real pina colada. ... read more

Que Pasa Chicos? My trip is coming to a wonderful close. We are tucked away on the beautiful carribbean island of Roatan. Unfourtunately, November is the rainy season and we havn't had all that nice weather. This weekend is sopposed to be nice though. I am offically a PADI open water certified scuba diver! I finished my course today. I cannot even begin to tell you how amazing Scuba Diving is. I am usually a little cautious when it comes to water but I felt completely comfortable down there at 65 feet scuba-ing around. It is so surreal to see a gigantic reef wall with the most beautiful fish swimming around. Everything is quiet except for the sound of your own breathing and the bubbles you make as you exhale. I remember watching my mother play ... read more

UTILA, Bay Islands, Honduras After making my way from Copan through La Ceiba I ended up here on the small Caribbean island of Utila. In order to catch the early morning ferry out here I had to stay the night in La Ceiba, a filthy port town full of hookers and drunks. I was warned by friends to pick a nicer hotel because the cheapies were scary... and I thought I did, but was surprised to find lots of gross old men hanging about with hookers and police. I arrived after dark and didn't think it wise to walk around downtown Ceiba with my backpack looking for another place, so I stayed. After hearing some hookers go at it down the hall I stepped out to use the internet and grab a bite to eat. The ... read more

C'etait Super! J.P. ... read more

ok, truth is i'm no longer under blue honduran skies, but under the grey ones of brum. my last few weeks in honduras were crazy, had no time to waste in the internet cafe. so here's a quick update of what i did. UTILA ... i was lucky enough to get a long weekend off school so i took the advantage to go to Utila, one of the Bay Islands off Honduras, accessable by a 1hr boat trip from La Ceiba on the coast. Last year i had been to Roatan (the bigger Bay Island) twice so i decided to check out her little sister. Utila is a paradise for backpackers who like diving and partying. I spent my weekend doing exactly that, up at 7.30, roll down the stairs of my dirt cheap but beautiful ... read more

That´s the number one rule of diving as we found out in our first class of our open water dive course. We arrived in Utila with numerous recommendations for a dive shop called Alton´s, this was good as it saved us having to wander round with all our stuff checking out what everyone was offering! Alton´s was right at the end of a long sweeping bay that comprised the main town of Utila, a little out of the way but that turned out to be a good thing as the shop and its accomodation were right on the water. We could walk out of our room and see fish swimming around under the dock in the morning and sit at the end of the dock with a beer and watch the sunset over th ocean in ... read more
