Following breakfast, we boarded the bus, but for some reason there were no wake up calls so several people were late. It was rainy and cold. Our agenda today was to get to the Dome of the Rock. This is the huge gold dome that you see in just about any picture of Jerusalem. The dome is under Muslim control and they can and do close it often, so it is tricky getting to go there. This is my fourth trip to Israel and I have only been there one time until today. Today we were successful!! The Dome of the Rock is considered a most holy site by Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike. It is the third most holy site to Muslims following Mecca and Medina. It is built on Mt. Moriah, the site where ... read more

This day started out like all the others, wake up call, breakfast, to the bus. We first went to the Church of all Nations, so called because it was rebuilt with financial contributions from many countries. Each country has its national seal in the ceiling. This church is built over the rock on which Jesus prayed at the Garden Of Gethsemane. Outside, in the garden, are olive trees some of which date back 2-4 thousand years. Today was Sunday so a church service was in progress. Next, we headed to the Mount of Olives which is right across the Kidron Valley. It is where Jesus ascended and has been a Jewish Cemetary (since Biblical times). It is said that Jews buried pay thousands of dollars to be buried there so they will be first in line ... read more

Wake up call at 6:30 this morning and bus pullout was at 8:oo am. We were spending the day around the city of Jerusalem so there were no long drive times. Every day our breakfast is buffet style with all sorts of fruits and vegetables, breads, sweet breads, cereal (both hot and cold), eggs and egg dishes, cheeses, and of course coffee, tea and juices. Each group has a section served by the color of their group…ours is brown this year. So we often see the other members of our group. Our bus has 32 people with most of them from the Tyler/Ritchie County area. There are other people from Virginia Beach, North Carolina, and Tennessee. They range in age from 12 to 90 with most being in the 60-70-year-old range. We have a local bus ... read more

Following a buffet breakfast and checking in luggage (for the bus driver), we boarded the bus for a trip to Mt. Nebo. This is where Moses viewed the promised land since he wasn't permitted to enter. It is believed he died on Mt. Nebo or nearby, though the exact place is not known. I was warned it would be cooler and windy on Mt. Nebo, but I wasn't prepared for the intensity of the wind. It felt like you were being blown over the hillside as you walked toward the sites. I will post a short video on my Facebook page for you to see just what I mean. As you walk up the hill there is a large stone like the one place over Jesus' tomb and a statue of Moses to commemorate his life ... read more

Morning Wake-up call today was at 6 am but our alarm was at 5:30. Breakfast was at 6:30 and bus pull out was 7:30 as we were making the long drive to Petra. If you look in a map you would see that there is some distance between Amman and Petra. It will be about 4 hours on a bus. Typically, we start the day with devotions and prayer, then our guide will tell us about the site/sites we would be seeing. We always have a comfort stop and today we’d be having lunch before getting to Petra. Lunch today was just across the hill from Petra where we cold, get so picture of the hills in which Petra was built. When you visit Petra there are three modes of transportation; ride a horse, ride in ... read more

So as always for any trip I make a list of last-minute things I have to do...buy extra batteries, get snacks, make sure my family has what they need while I’m away, etc. Terry drove me to New Martinsville, was helping me out, and would also take my car home once I linked up with the rest of the group. While waiting at the plaza we learned Randy, Diane, and Debbie were in a fender bender at McDonald’s. It caused a lot of excitement and delayed our departure to Pittsburgh. Once they arrived, we loaded up and had an uneventful trip to the airport. We were later than we planned but we had plenty of time. Debbie and I were the first the check in with our bags. I dug through my purse...no passport. I dug ... read more

This trip is drawing to a close. We left Terre Haute and simply planned on driving till we got home. We stopped for gas and bathroom breaks. Here are my thoughts as we came home today..... This trip is coming to a close. We rode nearly 9000 miles together in 3 weeks. We talked along the way of our experiences on this trip....what we loved, what we didn’t love, what was our favorite, what was our least favorite, and what we would do differently. We all agreed we loved this trip. It was an education. We’ve seen which state grow what crops and who has to irrigate. We’ve seen the terrain change from state to state. We’ve seen land that looked like it was good for nothing...particularly on the Indian Reservations (no wonder they hated us)! ... read more

Typical routine...up, dressed, breakfast, and pack the car. We’re headed home to WEST VIRGINIA!! Now it is no secret that I love to travel but I really love going home!! We only had one thing planned fir the day. I saw a video on my Facebook about a giant ice cream cone. I studied the video over and over until I could see part of the name. I researched and discovered the place was on our way home....sort of!! It would take us about an hour out of our way but we were all game to try it!!! So off we went to Garfield, Arkansas and the ShortStop Grill. Garfield was about 3.5 hours away so that would be perfect fir a bathroom/lunch stop! When we hit there I told the gal st the counter that ... read more

Today was to be a short travel day to Pawhuska to visit The Pioneer Woman, Red Drummond. Now this is something I’ve always wanted to do. My plan was to leave by 8 am and get to Pawhuska by about noon. Then we’d have plenty of time to visit the town, the Mercantile, and hopefully the Drummond Lodge. We started out with breakfast at the hotel, then we decided to find the statues we’d just learned about. When we pulled up to the first statue it was in front of the visitors center. Karen said “The visitors center us open, let’s go in.” I was so glad she did!! When we went in the visitors center I told the attendant how disappointed I was in Dodge City and its lack of tribute to the westerns, especially ... read more

Today was another driving day. We had an Airbnb reservation in Dodge City which was about 8 hours away. Karen always packed us sandwiches for our driving days so we didn’t have to take time to stop and eat. We also have a cooler if drinks and a huge bag of chips, snacks, and fruit. It not only saves tome but money. One issue we have had a few times is the distance we travel on state roads with no businesses in sight. This presents a problem going to the bathroom. We experienced that on this day. As I predicted, once we took care of communing with Mother Nature we came upon a rest area about 10 miles down the road!! Traveling after Labor Day is wonderful because schools are back in session and there are ... read more
