Today was filled with reminders of 9/11/01. Flags we flying, many at half mast. Social media and TV was filled with stories survivors and those that were taken from us. After breakfast we headed out to a big flea market near our house. Good thing we were loaded up or I’m afraid Ed and I would have made many more purchases!! We drove out to the Wyoming Visitors Center on I-8, the Lincoln Highway. The Lincoln High was the first transcontinental highway running from New York to California. The highest peak on the road is near Laramie and is called Sherman Summit. Its elevation is 9,000 feet above sea level. In 1959, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth, a giant bust of Lincoln was created. You can’t miss it if you are driving by. ... read more

Today was a moving day. We had breakfast, packed the car, and headed on to our next place....Laramie, Wyoming. We rented a place here so the guys could go fishing nearby. It was another short driving day. Typically we drive from 7-9 hours in a day, but today’s drive was only 4.5 hours. We have spent a lot of hours on the road, but it has been fascinating. Typically I fall asleep while riding in the car, but not on this trip. There’s too much to see while riding. Corn field, wheat fields, soybean fields, hay (in various forms), the lay of the land, trees (or the lack of them), rock formations, flowers, various animals... all there for us to watch! It is not boring! We were somewhat disappointed at Medicine Bow.... there was nothing there!!! ... read more

Sunday, September 8 - Monday, September 9 We spent the night in Casper, WY at one of the nicest Super 8 Motel’s I’ve ever been in. In addition they were so kind and helpful. They helped us carry our luggage to our rooms and Offered tips on getting our tires fixed. They even had a coin operated washer and dryer do we could do laundry!! Couldn’t have asked for a nicer place to stay! We weren’t in any hurry since our next stop was only 2 hours away. We knew we had to address the tire situation (needed a rim and tire to continue on). We went to WalMart Tire and Lube. Our only other choice on Sunday was Sam’s club. We were able to get a new tire but no rim. None of us wanted ... read more

North America » United States » Utah » Arches National Park September 7th 2019

Today was mostly a driving day to get us from Utah to Wyoming for our two planned fishing trips. We started the day at Arches National Park Arches has a variety of Rick archways as well as unusual rock formations, with most of them having names. Some if the names were Balanced Rock, Double Window, and Delicate Arch. If you’ve ever seen a Utah license plate with the red arch, it is Delicate Arch. You can drive through the park or stop and hike. We mostly drove but I wanted a good picture of Delicate Arch so I hiked a little more than a half mile to get my picture. You might think that a half mile or more is nothing. That’s what I thought! I’m here to tell you it was tough. It started out ... read more

We started our day with breakfast at a local eatery called Camaleons. The food was great and the waitress was delightful!! When I travel I like to stay away from chain restaurants if possible. I always research or ask about local eateries! After breakfast it was off to the Painted Desert and the Petrified Forest. The Painted is so named because of the beautiful colors. It starts out with the browns, reds, and oranges then turns to the blues and grays. As you drive further southwest you run into the Petrified Forest. The petrified forest is full of archaeological digs, fossils, ancient petrified wood, petroglyphs, and Pueblo dwellings. It was beautiful!! Next stop was Four Corners. Four Corners Monument is the only place in the United States where four states intersect: Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and ... read more

We left Las Vegas and the heat and headed back across the desolate desert toward the Grand Canyon. This was exciting for us because we had just been to the North Rim and we could compare it to the South Rim. My belief from previous visits to the South Rim was that the North Rim had more vibrant colors. We shall see. Our first stop was for gas, drinks, and a potty break. Gas was anywhere from $3.59 to $2.59 per gallon. The tire light came on in the Expedition so we went to a tire shop to have them checked. It was interesting because the air and tire check were free. We tipped the guy but it really wasn’t necessary. Everywhere we’ve been on this trip we’ve met so many wonderful people. Terry and Ed ... read more

Today Terry and I had to attend a sales presentation in the afternoon so we needed to find something to do that was near enough that we could be back by 1:30. We decided to go to the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. The Hoover Dam sits on Colorado River on the border of Nevada and Arizona. It was built between 1931 and 1936 and was originally called the Bolder Dam but was changed to the Hoover Dam in 1947. It is a major tourist attraction with nearly a million visitors each year. The Hoover Dam supplies electricity for Los Angeles and several surrounding states. It also supplies water for over 18 million people. The Lake Meade Reservoir is the largest of its kind in the United States when it is full. . Several movies have ... read more

Today we had to pack up the car and check out of our Airbnb condo but it was only 4.5 hours of driving to Las Vegas. That’s a pretty short driving day for us!! Our first goal for the day was a stop at Zion National Park. The only problem with visiting Zion is you must ride the shuttle buses to and from the highlight points. No cars are allowed. There was a scenic road of about 14 miles you could drive. The road had many pull off places for photos. It was beautiful but did not compare to Bryce. We did get to see some Big horn sheep! There was road work, curvy roads, a couple of tunnels, and lots of people. Once we loaded back in the car it was off to Vegas. We ... read more

Today, following breakfast, we headed out to Bryce Canyon. As we are driving we see so much and every area is different. As we were driving to Bryce we went around a bend and suddenly everything was this beautiful deep red color like we had never seen before. We immediately pulled off the road and took pictures. We learned we were in the Red Canyon. We just were in awe at the land forms, rocks, mountains, hoodoos, and natural bridges. This was just a precursor to what we would see once we got to Bryce. When we entered Bryce, we stopped at the visitors center to pick up maps and formulate a plan. We were really on a time limit as we had packed a lot into our day. The first place we stopped was Bryce ... read more

On Sunday we loaded up and headed down through Utah to spend a couple days at Cedar City, a town about halfway between Bryce National Park and Zion. We took time to stop at Idaho Falls and Salt Lake City. We went to the Great Salt Lake State Park, then it was back in the car and on to Cedar City, Utah. We checked into our airbnb condo in Cedar City on Sunday evening after driving around trying to find it. The directions took us abut 10 miles out of our way, but finally we found where we were supposed to be. It was a very nice place that had been recently remodeled and was located near gas stations, restaurants, and shopping. We were all tired so it was off to bed as we had a ... read more
