Sunday was a driving day to get from Gardiner to Glacier. Our goal was to make a couple stops for supplies and enjoy the sights along the way. We’ve all decided that while our pictures are good they just don’t really capture the scenery as we see it. We’re each so grateful that we are able to make this trip and see it all in person!! As we’re driving along we have lots of discussions and solve all the world’s problems. Top of the list is Covid and what we can do to avoid becoming infected. In the beginning, we were the only people wearing masks but as we’ve traveled west and north many more are masking up. It is required in all National parks buildings. When we arrived at our cottage for the night if ... read more

Today is the first day or this trip that we’ve had any amount of time to ourselves. The guys are our fishing and Karen and I are organizing, repacking, visiting the shops, planning ahead, and walking around town. LTer this afternoon the guys will come back and we will drive though a different section of Yellowstone looking for wildlife and seeing the sights Guys came back at 2:30 and we headed out through the park again. The girl that checked our park passes was from Hinton, WV. She was surprised to see someone from WV. This trip we headed for Lamar Valley. Our primary objective was to visit a part of the park we hadn’t visited and to look for wildlife, particularly bears, elk, and something we hadn’t seen. Even those there was no prediction for ... read more

This was Day 7. Hard to believe what we’ve packed into a week. We’ve traveled through 11states. We’ve stayed in 3 Airbnb’s and 3 hotels and we’ve traveled 2642 miles. We’ve been to the geographic center of the 48 states, visited 3 national parks, countless national monuments or historical sites, witnessed a 61 degree temp change get in 2 days. We’ve traveled Interstates, state roads, county roads, and dirt roads. We’ve fished a little and shopped a lot! We’ve talked to countless travelers from all over the United States and given a lot of advice and taken a little. So far it’s it’s been great. Today we started out at the Roosevelt Arch and headed through Yellowstone to see Ike Faithful. We stopped several places along the way; Mammoth Hot Springs, Fort Yellowstone, Sheepeater Cliff, Gibbon ... read more

Today was a travel day. We had breakfast at our hotel where we had another pancake machine…I know I’m just a big kid but it’s fun to watch it plop the pancakes into Your plate. This one was even newer…it was a no touch.. just wave your hand and it went to work. We had about a 5 1/2 hour drive to our home for the next three days in Gardiner, MT, the north entrance to Yellowstone near the Roosevelt Arch. As usual the drive was interesting watching landforms change. We followed the Yellowstone River so we saw fishermen and boaters along the way. We saw mule deer and whitetail deer as well. Our only stops were to WalMart for bug cleaner for the car, a few groceries, and allergy medicine. We also gassed up and ... read more

Today started out in Spearfish, SD and headed for Medora, ND. North Dakota is one of the 6 states I’ve never visited. Medora is a small little town that you probably have never heard of. It is one of the entrances to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I discovered it by watching travel shows and quickly became interested in their outdoor show called the Medora Musical. While driving through northern South Dakota, Terry said it was the most boring drive ever! Miles and miles of nothing….no homes, no towns, no businesses, NOTHING!!! Who’s taking care of all the cows and crops? We didn’t see even one farmer! Once we crossed the border into North Dakota we began to see houses, gas stations, farm buildings, and farmers. We started seeing more rock formations and buttes. As we neared ... read more

Today we enjoyed breakfast outside on the patio at our Holiday Inn Express in Chadron, Nebraska. I had fun showing Ed the pancake machine. It’s one that you just push a button and it makes your pancake and shoots them out on your plate! It doesn’t take much to entertain me!! I am starting to get my taste back but just certain things. Today I ate a piece of bacon that tasted like bacon. I still can’t taste coffee or many, many other foods! AND I still can’t smell!! Our goal today was South Dakota. What I love about our group is that if we see a sign for a place that looks interesting we stop or head that direction. So today we saw a sign for Wind Cave National Park so we decided we should ... read more

We started out our day today with a homemade breakfast of fried eggs, toast, coffee, juice, and fruit compliments of the Willa Cather Foundation that operates the Airbnb. After loading we drove around the town to visit some more of the Willa Cather sites. We visited her original home, her home church, and the Milner family home upon which she based her book “My Antonio”. We drove by the foundation home in the old opera house, but it wasn’t open yet. Our goal today was Chimney Rock and Scottsbluff, both in Nebraska. Ultimately we were headed to Chadron, NE to spend the night on our way to Mt Rushmore and Rapid City. We drove across Nebraska on several two lane roads. We met little traffic…..many times thinking we were the only ones on the road. After ... read more

Today we were up early as our bodies were still on home time but our clocks were on Central Time. It was easy to leave at 7:30 since we were up at 6 am. Our goal was to get to Lebanon, Kansas, the geographic center of the 48 states. According to our research we had to be there before 5 pm as it closed on Sunday at that time. We were about 8 hrs and 30 minutes away…driving hours, no stops included. The theme of this trip is loving the deive across this great country and trying to take pictures out the car window! I am in awe at the massive farming operations and the equipment. It is so interesting to be able to observe planting, harvesting, types of bales of hay, corn, corn, corn, soybean, ... read more

So as always, with us, starting out was a little rough. Terry finished playing with the St. Mary’s’ Community Band at the annual Fireman’s Ice Cream Social and we immediately jumped into action. We are the set up and take down crew, but for this event we didn’t have to drag out much equipment, so not as much to put away. Biggest problem is Terry is a talker and just can’t pass up a good conversation. We did have a couple people helping us and I was so grateful! When we arrive at the house I thought we’d jump in the Suburban and take off. Much to my surprise nothing was packed! It really didn’t take too long and after a quick trip up the hill to visit Betty (Terry's 94 year old mother) we were ... read more

Last night we made a little presentation to Bill Dawson from our group...the Brown Bus. In the past we’ve been Aqua, Gray, and Purple, so this tear we’ve referred to ourselves as the pooper scoopers. We gave Bill a poop emoji hat which he wore on the bus this morning. It got a great laugh!! Today we started with a long drive to Caesarea. It was rainy day but warm. Caesarea is a great Seaport built by King Herod. It is important to Christians because Paul spent two years in prison there in Cornelius was the first non-Jew to be baptized Christian. Read acts 10:1-6 to know more. Typically it’s beautiful and sunny at Caesarea but today was rainy and windy, Plus there is a lot of construction going on so it wasn’t conducive to great ... read more
