July 16 Today is the day that we meet the people with whom we will be spending the next two weeks. We will travel by bus around Ireland and Scotland and will part ways once we end this tour in Edinburgh. Breakfast was at 8 am. It was a buffet breakfast complete with components of an English breakfast along with many extras such as pancakes, fried potatoes, mushrooms, and a variety of breads. Once finished, we had time to return to our rooms before boarding the bus for a trip around Dublin. I always laugh at the word Dublin…..it’s because of the many jokes Terry Wilson tells. I won’t share it here in print, but you can ask him and I’m sure he will tell you. Top of the list today……find a shirt that says Dublin ... read more

July 15 This is a travel day so much of the day has been spent getting from me place to another. We are going from London Heathrow Airport to Dublin. We flew Aer Lingus, which was a first for me. The day started our much like our flight at Pittsburgh, our flight was delayed about an hour. Eventually we went to the gate and boarded our flight. It was a totally uneventful flight. This flight didn’t include and snacks or drink unless you paid. I listened to music, Shealyn watched out the window and Marsha slept. Going through passport control was a breeze. Before we knew it we were at the cab queue outside the airport. We had to wait a bit because there were three of us with 2 suitcases each. Our cab driver was ... read more

We had breakfast at our hotel…the Angel Hotel in Leamington Spa. It was a full English breakfast. The big difference was they would scramble eggs for Shealyn. The other thing is the breakfast included black pudding. It is made from pork or beef blood with pork fat or beef suet and a cereal, usually oats or barley and seasoning. It was not high on my list of things to try!! We walked around town and found a bus to Coventry, which is one of the places I wanted to go. Fifty years ago, Fairmont State Choir took a trip here and I wanted to revisit some places. Coventry was one of them. Because we were limited in transportation, we could only pick one area. Coventry Cathedral has a long history of destruction and rebuild starting in ... read more

July 13 Today , after breakfast, we left our favorite home away from home, The Balmoral House Hotel. We love the people there. They treat us like we are family. We met a young man, Flavio, when we were there in 2019. We were so hoping that he would still be there….he was. He remembered us when we checked in and we hated to say goodbye when we left today. We got to know another lady who works there that is also quite fond of Flavio. Audi was her name. We got to spend some time talking with her. We know she cooks for Flavio as we smell her cooking. We always wished we could get a dinner invite because everything smells so good! The Balmoral House has small rooms, small showers but is very clean ... read more

July 12 I didn’t sleep well last night. I was restless and woke at 4:30. I did finally get some more sleep. My hair always tells when I’ve tossed and turned….it looks like mix master did it…..WILD!! Once everyone was awake we headed downstairs for breakfast. Shealyn was trying to figure what you do in London to avoid the heat. She found a site that said to visit Kew Garden when it’s hot. Kew has always been on my list to visit but it’s pretty far out. We were up for the challenge do off we went to Paddington Station to board the District Line to Kew Garden. The best part was the train was fairly empty so we got to sit down!! Plus we only had to change trains once. Kew gardens was a total ... read more

July 11 Shealyn is winding down or trying to catch her breath. Each day we have walked anywhere from 14,000 steps to 23,000. So after breakfast today we went back to the room and took a little break. We had decided to ride The Big Bus. We missed all the great pictures you can get from the top of the bus. The pick up site was just a half block from our hotel and between the 2 routes we would get just about everywhere we wanted to go. So we bought the tickets and off we went!! When you take a bus tour like Big Bus, if you listen to the tour guide or prerecorded guide, you learn so much about the area. I usually try to take notes and pictures so I can make sense ... read more

July 10 We got up, had our typical breakfast and got dressed for the day. We were heading to the British Museum and because we had tickets to see Six, the musical, we would not return until late evening The British Museum was very nice. It had a great amount of exhibits, but Shealyn was particularly interested in the Rosetta Stone, the Egyptian display, and Mesopotamia. As we entered the first thing we saw was the gift shop. Now the museum has a rotunda and the gift shops go almost all the way around. Shealyn had a ball buying items she could put on display in her classroom. When all was said and done, she had two bags full!!! We then went to see the Rosetta Stone. Shealyn was in the height of her glory!!!! (She’s ... read more

July 9 Today was supposed to be a relaxing day as we were tired. We’ve been on a dead run (sometimes literally) since we left The States and we needed a break. So we got up for breakfast and came back to the room. Shealyn and Marsha both took naps and I reorganized my bags. I had souvenirs to fit in and I also lost an envelope of Euros and pounds meant for Ireland and Scotland. I didn’t find it!! Once the girls woke up we went to the nearby laundromat to wash clothes. Even washing clothes can be an adventure. While Marsha was loading clothes, an earring fell under the washers. The attendant gave her a screwdriver to dig it out. When she turned around to stand up she was eye level to the crotch ... read more

We got up and got ready for breakfast. We’ve stayed at this hotel in 2019 and loved the breakfast. We were hoping COVID hadn’t changed all that. We had 2 eggs on bread, beans, really good bacon, chocolate croissants, coffee, toast and tea. There was also cereal, fruit, and juice available. It was excellent. Our goal today was to get to some shops near Buckingham Palace that were closed for Good Friday when we were here last. We also wanted to walk they Hyde Park and sit in chairs along the water. We never found the chairs, but did visit the pavilion which had a coffee shop/ restaurant and Toilets. As we were walking, Marsha noticed her feet were swollen and her shoes were rubbing blisters. So we detoured to a pharmacy to get bandaids and ... read more

Slept in till 9:30 up till 2. Breakfast at the hotel then back to the room to check out. Hotel will store our bags. We also hired a driver to take us to Gare du Nord station. Dragging luggage ip and down 3 flights or stairs just wasn’t appealing to us….been there done that!! We headed out to the streets with the goal of finding the McDonalds with the outdoor sidewalk cafe. Shealyn wanted to try their hot chocolate and one of their hot chocolates. It’s fun to go to McDonald’s in another country and try the different options. This one had cheesecake, macaroons, and several speciality bake shop goods. One that looked interesting was the McGriddle with Nutella. We found McDonalds. It was busy! We ordered to go but in order to sit in the ... read more
