Day 88 This lovely sea air is a knockout, I really struggled to get out of bed this morning, I felt so tired yet, we were in bed not long after 10.00 last night so getting up at 7.00 should be easy. I got two loads of washing into the machine this morning, I don’t know why but it feels like I am always washing clothes, I am sure that is not really true, but perhaps it is because each day blends in with the next. We may be able to keep tabs on what date it is but the days of the week are a complete blur. Today brings with it a little bit of investigation work, one we need to find a Nissan Dealer to get the truck in for a service and two ... read more

Don’t you wish that sometimes you had just kept your mouth shut? There I am with the glossy tourist information brochures, perusing what is on offer in this new area for us to explore. More National Parks, reserves, restaurants, shopping, the ocean and oh, the Illawarra Fly Tree Top Walk. “That looks interesting” I said when we rolled into Shellharbour a few days ago. To which Andy’s response is, "we will do that then". So today is the day and after our morning ablutions and hanging our sleeping bags on the washing line to air out in this lovely ocean breeze, we set off. So, The Illawarra Fly tree top walk is a 1½ Kilometre walk starting off at ground level then rising up on a steel gantry that generally is around 20 mtrs from the ... read more

Day 86 As you have may or may not gathered by now, we like to put what we call a snappy tag line up for each day of the blog, things like day 1 or day 26 just doesn’t do it but titles like secrets on the lake, naughty wombats or even little India should be more enticing to our readers. Some days are so much easier to do than others, some days we sit at the end of an evening still pondering what yesterday's blog is going to be called , still seeking some inspiration, where other times it just falls in your lap. Today is the 1st of February (White Rabbits) and it is 08.41 in the morning, Caroline has gone for her morning wash and as I type this can see her walking ... read more

Day 85 Sitting here on this glorious sunny and warm, no, scratch that, hot day cooled only by the ocean breeze, the tide is coming in across the rocks below our camp site and the distant horizon, so vast, reveals the curvature of the earth. We have decided to have a holiday and extend our stay here, with such a beautiful outlook, however that does come with a small problem, the pitch that we are on is booked from Sunday night, the new occupiers will arrive and spend 32 nights here which means that if we want to stay at this camp site we will have to move to a different pitch, still only 4 places down, and still overlooking the Pacific Ocean. A holiday? I can hear you all asking, well we have been very ... read more

Day 84 I was up first as usual, not particularly early as we had a latish night, but around 6.30am. One thing I am not is ever grumpy in the morning; yes it usually comes on throughout the day, but never early in the morning. (I can vouch for that!!). Humans are creatures of habit, and I like mine, I like to stride out of bed and instantly put the kettle on, this is why Caroline “always” gets tea in bed and I never do!! (I just want to note at this point that when Andy affords himself an afternoon kip, I don’t, I usually busy myself doing something). The camp site in Narrabeen was good, we had found out from Lionel and Janet how it had come to be!! Back when the soldiers came back ... read more

Day 83 We had every intention of going to Sydney today, our plan was to get the bus in to Manley, then the Fast Cat ferry over to Circular key. Once we had some breakfast and by the time we got ourselves together we looked at the bus time table and found that we would have to wait another 45 minutes for a bus, so we drove directly to Manley parked in the Australian equivalent of an NCP carpark and jumped on the fast cat from there. The Ferry ride is only half an hour, really pleasant in the sunshine, we sat at the front of the boat as if we were on a school outing. . I had heard on the radio this morning about a cruise liner that was in or coming in at ... read more

Day 82 The Insular Peninsular, this is how the Northern Beaches are described, apparently the people that live here don’t leave, everyone knows each other and the only time the locals leave Northern Beaches is to pop into Sydney to shop or go to the airport to fly elsewhere, they don’t travel inland at all! (Sounds a bit Stepford Wives if you ask me!), however this is also the home of Palm Beach and that is the home of Home and Away that popular Australian soap that we get in England. This morning was spent doing washing and making sure that the tent had a good airing after getting damp on the inside yesterday. The rain from the night before did not get in, however as we had to pack the tent away in the rain, ... read more

Day 81 We got up this morning and the mist and cloud from the mountain had truly rolled in and with light drizzle everything was absolutely soaked. Rain or not it was our plan to move on and it all had to be packed away, still the blessing was inside the trailer we were lovely and dry and warm. Heads down *rse up we piled in and got on with it, everything packed away in the trailer, top protective cover zipped on and we were done. Definitely done all right, we had lost the keys to the truck. High and low we looked, then we thought that we had possibly left them on top of the bed in the trailer that was now packed away. Sod it I am not getting it all out again in ... read more

DAY 80 Today is Australia day and whilst most Australians spend time with family and friends we again pack the trailer away and depart from Forbes. It takes us ages to actually leave these camp sites as we have usually have made the acquaintance of a few people and when we pull out the windows always have to go down to say farewell and good luck to people. I have absolutely loved Forbes, another jewel, in our box of memories, the buildings are just so pretty and the pace of life seems nice. There also seems to be a lot of beautiful park lands for the 10,000 residents. We spoke to Jenny and Russell who own this Big 4 camp site, I honestly think it was the best one we have stayed on, either this ... read more

DAY 79 It was a much cooler night, a huge difference from the warm winds the night before. In fact we actually found ourselves getting inside the sleeping bag in the wee hours of the morning to keep warm. We also slept better, but so well that we slept in until 8.00, but as it is Sunday and today we are in no rush as we decided to stay an extra day as we set up an am Skype session and also we wanted to stay around Forbes because we are basing today on our evening activity. We managed to Skype our friends Gary and Karen as we had not seen/spoken to them properly for weeks. The Skype session was quite poor, we could not hear or see them, although that was not entirely a ... read more
