DAY 62 “Where are you going?” “I’ve got to check on that thing” “What thing?” “You know, that thing” Something about this conversation was not right. “You don’t have to check on anything, everything is alright, we are fine” Andy looked puzzled, “don’t I?” “No, all you need to do is get back into bed, you can check on whatever it is in the morning”. Still looking puzzled Andy dutifully got back into bed and went back to sleep. It was the early hours of the morning, Andy had slept on top of the sleeping bag, starkers as usual, it was a warm night. I am sure if I had not spoken to Andy he would have gone outside the tent in a haze of sleepwalking and quite likely sent the locality of Brunswick Heads into ... read more

Day 61 I had a strange dream this morning, I was looking down a road but I could not see anything as the sun was too bright, I then awoke when I heard Andy adjusting the inner fly screen panel, he said that when he woke up he saw the sun was beating directly onto my face so put the panel up so that I could be shaded from the sun. It was hot already, however still not as humid as the Sunshine Coast. The weatherman said that it would be 31 degrees today. Waking up in the trailer again was brilliant! We were supposed to be moving on today, with an en route visit to Byron Bay, we had been there before with our friends Gary and karen, it was a place that we all ... read more

6th January 2009 After a fantastic nights sleep, (well every night is fantastic for me) I got up reasonably early to see David dressed in his Australia Zoo Uniform, and very smart he looked indeed. Dave leaves really early, but fortunately doesn’t have to far to travel before getting to work. The dogs, Oaky, Malee, and King were full of beans and had their pigs trotters to keep them amused. I sat outside typing up Naughty Wombats, it was lovely and warm, a cool breeze wafted across the shady veranda. Ruth appeared in the kitchen and prepared herself for her day so I kept out of the way, though she kindly made me a cup of tea. We were leaving today, and once Caroline was up we just needed to pack our stuff away then tidy ... read more

Day 59 We thanked Derek and Karen for putting us up, and they thanked us for doggy sitting Moffy and Charlie. We left their place in Caloundra at around 08.30 am, hooked up with the trailer on route to Australia Zoo, today was NAUGHTY WOMBAT DAY. We checked in through the group bookings aisle as we had been told and then went across to information to book in for the Naughty Wombats, really just to tell them we were there, we saw uncle Alan, who we were out having dinner with last night, and managed to pull his leg a little. We walked around the zoo and with our past knowledge of working there we had a better perspective of the layout and saw some animals we had not seen before, like the komodo dragons, the ... read more

DAY 58 Up nice and early as usual, not quite watching the sun rise, but certainly giving me the quiet time I love. I managed to recall and type out most of the blog for yesterday, then ask mission control to edit it for me. Though she does not have any control over artistic licence (Note from Mrs T: that's what he thinks!). We got out just after 10.00 am and headed off in the truck as we wanted to go and see Montville, a place up in the mountains. It was a fantastic drive up through, Mooloolah, Eudlow, Palmsprings, then on to Montville, finishing off in Melany. On route we stopped at Baroon Pocket Dam for a while, It was the usual Australian Sunday setting, people cooking at the BBQ’s that are provided, kids swimming, ... read more

DAY 57 - 3rd January 2009 Today is Saturday, Derek and Karen are due back from their New Year excursion to Sydney. They were due back at around 4.00pm. We had a 10.30 appointment with the Chris and Michelle, Franki’s mother and stepfather. We know Franki from Starbucks in Mooloolaba, in our discussions a long time before Christmas, Frankie said her parents may want their house sitting for a period whilst the family are away in the UK, for her sisters wedding. We arrived at their house in the wooded suburbs of Caloundra, and were greeted by Franki’s mum, Michelle. Michelle is originally from Malvern, in Worcestershire and Chris from Gods own fair County of Warwickshire, he said he came from Selly Oak, and had worked on a Sainsbury’s that I did some of the electrical ... read more

DAY 56 2nd January 2009 Title(Seven, eights) Again it’s somewhat difficult to produce the blog for the 2nd January as not that much happened. We are somewhat restricted by our own acceptance that whilst looking after someone else’s animals, you can’t spend that much time away from the appointed property. What I do know is that we have been away 8 weeks today, that’s why we have given today’s blog the tag, (Eight Sevens). I hope you guys don’t think this just happens, these fancy tags, like beetle mania, they do take some thought you know. Anyway, you know the drill, get up, kettle on, let the dogs out, make tea, feed dogs, sit at laptop and do blog, for the day before, so its an accurate account of what has happened, warts and all. DAY 55 - 1st January 2009 - New Years Day! Well Happy New Year bloggers! I stumbled out of bed this morning, feeling very tired from our late night (early morning), that had to be the latest we have been to bed since being in Australia so we are not used to it. Andy and I had a great time at Ruth and Dave’s last night, it was great opportunity to relax and enjoy the company of and get to know other people too! Each person we meet along the way on our momentous journey, makes it that much more colourful. New Years day brings with it the enthusiasm to get back on the road. I had arranged a Skype session with one of my closest friends, Babs, as I knew she was having a small ... read more

DAY 54 31ST December 2008 (New Year’s Eve) Today waking up on the sunshine coast you can definitely feel the difference in the strength of the sun compared to Port Stevens, 10.00am and it was already very hot. Andy got out of bed fairly early as usual, tended to the needs of Moffy and Charlie and settled down at the Internet with a cup of tea. I got up at 8.00, as the day was already blistering, I jumped in the swimming pool to cool down a bit. In this heat the water is naturally heated so is not freezing cold when you get in, it is all the same refreshing. There was a knock on the door, hastily I went to the front door, anticipating that it was the parcel from England that we were ... read more

DAY 53 30th December 2008 We surfaced just in time for breakfast, and with all that rain I thought It may have extinguished the sun forever, but thank the lord the sun had risen again today and was breaking in to the bedroom. It was so warm and muggy last night I slept on top of the bed all night whilst Caroline went for the sausage role effect. Breakfast at our choice was a fruit breakfast, toast and tea, ever since we stayed at the Sebel Pier in Sydney I just love a mixed fruit breakfast, with Vanilla Yogurt. Don’t misunderstand me if “Jenny” had asked me once more If I would like a full English I would have cracked, and told her my name rank and serial number. I could never have been a spy, ... read more
