Day 68 I was up and at’em early this morning as I wanted to get in to the spa baths at 7.00am, I unsuccessfully tried to rouse she who must be obeyed but to no avail, she groaned she was tired and wanted an extra half an hour in bed. I trundled down the road and waited for the gate to be opened at 7.00am, as soon as it was I jumped in to one of the four pools they had, the 35 degree one, Mmmm!! I stayed in the 35 for 15 minutes and then went in to the 39 degree pool for 5 minutes. Finally and this is what its all about I got in to the cold pool and the sensation was excellent. The temperature in Moree, was hot, hot, hot, close if ... read more

Day 67 Today sees us moving out of Glenn Innes and on to Moree. I had in fact intended on bypassing Moree to drive straight to Narrabri, however Robin mentioned that Moree was worth a visit. So after packing away the tent, saying our goodbyes to Robin and Helen, we hit the road towards Inverell, this time filling up with Diesel and making sure that the Jerry can was also full with Diesel, we are not filling the sub tank yet as there is no need while we are in areas that have plenty of fuel stations. Away on the 38 the scenery and the temperature started to change, we were now coming down from the high altitude and coming back to 217metres above sea level, rather than the height of Snowdonia. The terrain was opening ... read more

Day 66 Andy got up early and made a cup of tea for us both, of course bringing mine to me whilst I was still languishing in bed, well, it was so cosy and warm in there. Up in Glenn Innes the nights are cold and it does not get warm very early. Andy was sat reading his book and through the open flyscreen of the tent he saw two Kangaroos come bounding past the truck. He did not hear them, they were so silent, I can vouch for that as I never heard a thing until Andy called me to get out of bed (yuck!!) but for a great photo opportunity how could I resist. So I hurriedley dressed and grabbed my camera, slipping the 300mm lens on in the process. Andy pointed out the ... read more

Day 65 With our lunch box packed we headed off to the Gwydir Highway and the Washpool and Gibralter Range National Parks. First stop was Boundary Creek, about 400metres walk down some steps there is a spectacular tropical looking lagoon with a waterfall. Something about it look perfect, even with the old deadwood that was lying in the lagoon as if it had been placed there deliberately. It may have been for all we know, however a common occurence here is that trees fall over and they are left on the landscape for its natural decomposition. Walking back up to the truck, this was a very short walk but very steep, we met a couple from Grafton who were just having a day trip in the Parks, they were photographing a Ground Orchid, a solitary Orchid ... read more

Dear all, In response to a couple of text messages that we have had. If you have not had chance to wade your way through our blog you may not have seen that we are having issues with our laptop. We are currently in Glenn Innes awaiting a Dell Engineer to come and do a warranty repair on our laptop, this has affected our ability to log onto internet, update blog and skype. We have only been able to update blog because the kind Robin and Helen at Craigieburn are letting us use the pc in their office. We expect to see an engineer tomorrow (Monday) providing global communications with the Phillipines works! Otherwise the laptop will be personally delivered to the Dell office in Sydney. Our plans from Tuesday should be to drive to Inverell ... read more

Day 64 Again I am forced to make handwritten notes as the laptop is still intermittently playing up. Fortunately Helen and Robin here at Craigieburn Camp Site in Glenn Innes are more than accomodating in allowing us update the blog using the pc in their office. However we are having some problems with photographs. Today we drove out to Boolabinda Homestead on Bullock Mountain as I wanted to do some fossicking and as we had already tried a reserve that was open to the public at Glencoe, it was so overgrown Andy was concerned that if you went through the long grass to the waters edge one of us was bound to get bitten by a snake and with my track record it would have been me! We turned the truck around and drove back through ... read more

Day 63 (9 weeks) I awoke this morning to hear Andy talking to someone outside, that is just like Andy to strike up a conversation with anyone that’s passing by no matter what time of day it is. I find Andy chatting to Kevin, he and his wife Barbara were on the pitch next to us. They are both retired and are making there way home (the long way home) after the Christmas celebrations with family at Tweed Heads. We chat about fossicking, Kevin explained that he and his wife went fossicking yesterday and they had a big find. They bring out their little container of stones, I was thinking they may find just one or two stones, but no, there are dozens of little sapphires amongst others, possibly some black spinel and zircon, amongst them ... read more
