DAY 52 29th December 2008 Monday Title Coffs and Sneezes So, whilst most of you, as in the population of England, were coughing and sneezing with the apparently “Australian” Flu, we were busy tidying the house and packing our cases ready for our onward journey. Today we were leaving Kruger Manor in Port Stephens to make our way North for New Year, Faye and Graydon were due back and around 2.00pm, after their Christmas break. Our objective for the journey was to at least make Coffs Harbour before contemplating pulling in for the night. Coffs Harbour is a good 4 hours drive North from Port Stephens up the Pacific Highway. Any kilometre beyond Coffs was going to be a bonus in our long journey back to the Sunshine Coast. I was out of bed at 6.00am ... read more

DAY 51 Sunday Sunday in our house in the UK, was never really peaceful, it was a day of painting, carpentry, or fettling or riding the bike, and possibly listening to Steve Wright on a Sunday morning, but it did mean I was out of bed at 5.00am more often than not, and If I wasn’t out on the KTM then Caroline always got her tea in bed. There is something about mornings I absolutely love, Its my time when I am most productive and creative, the time I just like to contemplate my navel. I don’t know what happened I just couldn’t get out of bed, those who know me know how I like to got to bed fairly early, you know what they say ” Early to bed Early to Rise” This morning I ... read more

DAY 50 27th December 2008 Today, Saturday was really the first day after Christmas and I needed a pair of “Thongs” aka (Flip Flops) and the television advert for Rivers department store said they have got loads. The nearest store was in Nelson Bay, which was about ¾ of an hour away. We had fed the dog her morning chow and locked up the house and got on our way, we new it was going to be busy just by the number of cars on the road, still nothing to compared to Southampton or Birmingham. We had never been to Nelson bay and were looking forwards to it, but when we got there we had to drive around and around to find a car parking space. Eagle eyed Caroline’s shopping nose had already sniffed out exactly ... read more

DAY 49 (Boxing Day) It was sort of one of those days you get now and again that I hate, the day feels so dysfunctional and you just can’t be arsed to do anything. The morning started as usual, we just sat around drinking tea and having our toast just sort of pondering what we needed to do today if anything. One thing I really wanted to do was wash the truck, so it was good to go when we got away on Monday. The sun was bright and the day probably 26-28 degree’s so it was more than warm enough. Caroline had made an impact on her small pile of Ironing; when she got the Ironing board out, I thought she was off surfing. The whole day was just sort of uneventful except for the ... read more

DAY 48 (Christmas Day) 25th December ( 7 Weeks Today ) Bah Humbug!! Being 45 I didn’t wake with an air of excitement, rushing down stairs to open our prezzies, but instead had to fight the dog for the quilt as my bum was cold, there she was on the top of the bed upside down fast asleep, thankfully she does not snore. Today was Christmas day, and without wishing to bore you again, we knew it was going to be a non event, but being in Australia, after all those months of dreaming and planning, it was celebration enough, and in the middle of it a heart attack, just to rattle the cage of reality. Still, here we were in Port Stephens, in this beautiful house, just me and my fantastic Caroline, and whatever the ... read more

DAY 47 (Christmas Eve) One thing we definitely know is it doesn’t feel like it is Christmas, people are constantly wishing us a merry Christmas, and every time we hear that it’s like a memory jog. I suppose its because the nights are not short, and we haven’t seen that many Christmas decorations on the houses, and the other thing is that it is warm, definitely shorts and T shirts, not coats, and hats like good ole blightly. The other thing we got into this year was that we were not going to buy each other anything as a gift, our trip was going to be expensive enough and we have already spent a lot of money on the truck and the camper trailer, so we needed to be sensible. As we miss our friends and ... read more

DAY 46 Generally today we had a fairly easy day. It is a real pleasure to be in a house, on the one hand it seems no time at all since we were in our rented apartment in Alexandra Headland but on the other hand it seems such a long time ago, I think because we have stayed in so many different places since leaving England, Singapore, Brisbane, Alexandra Headland, Fraser Island, Mooloolaba, Maroochy, Caloundra, Fassifern, Glen Innes, Apsley Falls, Lemon Tree Passage (Port Stephens) and currently Medowie (Port Stephens), not to mention the towns that we have travelled through en route and the many coffee’s that we have drunk in Starbucks all for the purpose of getting onto Tomizone internet to keep in touch with you all. I have found that during the day I ... read more

DAY 45 It was nice to wake up in such comfortable surroundings, and getting up at a sensible time. We got up and attended to the dog first, then us next. This morning we had said that we would take Nala the dog to the beach to give her a good run and as she loves the water, give her a swim. Caroline had a map of the beaches that was dog friendly and we drove possibly 35 Kilometres to Stockton Beach, and on arrival there were signs up saying “No Dogs On Beach”. We drove on and ended up at Lemon Tree passage beach and let her off the lead, and she bolted for the water. We had taken her tennis ball and her ball launcher, and I have to say she was hopeless and ... read more
