Day 106 I woke up annoyed that the alarm had not gone off, that Caroline was supposed to set for 5.00am. I had had the most dreadful nights sleep, the mother of all arguments had been going on in the distance and I thought that may be a fight had was in progress or even worse. I shook Caroline and announced it was time to get up, she looked at her watch and said it was half past four, Whoops!! I got out of bed and put the kettle on, and beetled about, Caroline went back to sleep for half an hour as I stayed out of the way. We had packed a lot of our stuff away last night, so only had the trailer to pack and all the awning sheets that go on the ... read more

DAY 105 We are both feeling relaxed on this journey, it has probably taken some time to settle into a bit of a routine in what we are doing and get organised. I guess for the both of us working in Project Management we seem to keep thinking of ways to improve what we do and how we do things, but whichever way you look at it this journey is an exciting adventure and is to be enjoyed, albeit relaxed, one thing we do not want to do is lie around all day. So a little late out of bed again this morning, not a problem, as we are not doing too much today, just a little bit of prep for Tasmania. Last night Andy promised me a breakfast of Eggy Bread, it kept me awake ... read more

DAY 104 We both didn’t wake until 8.00am after our inaugural card game last, it was nothing heavy just funny. So really today, we got up, had breakfast, did the laundry, tidied the back of the truck and sorted a few things out, went into Melbourne, and after a few hours came back to base camp. That’s all we did really, but I am sure we can find something to flower up the day with. I did not have one single good map of Melbourne, just several maps from the information stand on the camp site, so really finding our way into Melbourne was going to be relatively easy as all we had to do was follow Elizabeth Street, right! Wrong! Somewhere in the middle Elizabeth street changes and moves, then moves again. Whichever way you ... read more

Day 103 We had completed most of the blog yesterday evening for publishing today, so when I got up at around 7.00 it was kettle on, then boot the laptop up, this gives me a good jump on the day before Caroline gets up. Caroline went to have her shower, however within seconds of going Caroline was back, asking for my camera, explaining that there was a big spider in the ladies shower room she thought it maybe a wolf spider, or something like it so wanted to take a photo. Showing me the picture I was not certain, so Caroline bravely went and had her shower and said when she approached it reared its two front legs up, which I think is just a defence mechanism. C: I have to say that if any of ... read more

Waking up this morning, I felt very thirsty, then remembering the reason why, we had polished off a few bottles of bubbly last night to welcome Susan back to the Woodstock homestead. Fortunately I had taken a glass of water to bed with me last night to quench my thirst. Andy of course was already up, no doubt tippy tappying on the laptop writing up the blog for yesterday, which of course I will be editing and adding my five penneth worth before publishing. Before getting out of bed I reflected on yesterdays journey, no cup of tea was forthcoming from he who normally brings one to me either, so feeling thirsty thought I had better get up and see what the day has to offer. No doubt a quieter day today, a few things to ... read more

Day 101 Today we packed up the trailer ready to leave the campsite, the weather again was cold with a slight drizzle, not the weather we want nor like. Most sites you have to be off by 10.00 am which wasn’t a problem, but that meant dragging the trailer through the city centre. We had all day, to amuse ourselves, however we were heading back to Woodstock later to see Robert and Helen, because today Susan returns from Africa for 6 weeks, she has not been home for nearly 2 years. Caroline and myself, love technological things, Science etc, so today we were off the CSIRO discovery centre. Day 100 Just imagine, having a child that you loved and provided a safe and protective home for, then one day a total stranger came to your door and said that we are taking this child away from you. Imagine you as a child been taken away and put in an orphanage, then been told that you were taken away because your parents didn’t love you, only to find out years later that this was not the truth. How would you feel? Today we have been away for 100 days, and we are in very cold Canberra, cold enough to need to have a fleece on, that is just ridiculous, we want the sunshine back!! We are only in Canberra for a couple of days so have had to cram as much in as we can. ... read more

Day 99 The last thing I remember Helen saying last night is that she wanted to have a little lie in on Saturday morning, as there were no sheep to feed. I was out of bed at 7.00am and wandered in to the kitchen, Robert and Helen were both there, and Helen had said she had woken up at 4.00am and had not been able to get back to sleep and was shattered. We sat around a little and had tea; Robert asked if I would let the dogs off, which ones should I let off? Oh, Toby, Wally and Trixie, but leave Kimba and Tiny in their huge pen, and Jack was still on his cushion feigning it on the veranda. Helen asked if she could use one of the Toyota’s to take some stuff ... read more

This is a confession that has not happened many times in my life. (I over slept) Yes it true, I didn't wake until 7.15 and I was supposed to be feeding the sheep this morning, and my planed rendezvous was 6.00 am in the kitchen. Sh*t! I wandered through to the kitchen mortified by my misdemeanour, to find it empty, Helen’s coffee cup was there half empty. If I wasn’t doing the sheep then I knew it would be Helen helping Robert, Sh*t!! I made myself tea, and stewed in my own juices of guilt, whilst Caroline got up and came in to the kitchen. I explained my disgrace and in a typical Caroline retort said, “Well you obviously needed the sleep”. Helen came back at 9.00 and walked in to the kitchen “Morning” she said, ... read more
