DAY 130 Waking up to a cold but fairly dry morning, it had periodically rained throughout the night but there was a good strong wind, I was glad of that as the trailer tent could be dried off a little. We had decided to be up early and off, as we had about 145K’s to go on the way we wanted to see the 12 Apostles, London Bridge and all the other things on the Great Ocean Road that were on offer. I got out of bed at around 7.00am and put the kettle on, we were still alive from drinking the untreated tap water that we boiled for tea last night. The flame came out of the burner, blue with a crown of orange, then went out, sh*t!! We are out of gas and I ... read more

DAY 129 We woke up at Aire River, on a very cold and extremely wet morning; the weather just seemed to be getting worse. The tent was totally soaked, still we stuck it out, we were warm and dry in our camper trailer, it had rained most of the night and the wind gave us a real battering. In true Andy Trenfield style I still had my shorts and flip flops (thongs) on, there was not a chance of surrender. The day before the weather was so foul that we had considered getting a motel room or cabin, as the thought of being even colder than we were was not appealing. The reason for this extremely bad weather is a low pressure front heading down the west coast from Darwin is being pushed along by an ... read more

DAY 128 Although sleeping quite well, I awoke a few times in the night when the ship was doing its best to rock about. It was not a calm night, but it was also not the roughest of seas that we have sailed in. Sometimes you could feel the boat almost come to a standstill when it hit a wave. Andy was doing his best to disappear around the corner without waking me, he wanted to finish writing yesterday’s blog, I awoke anyway to see him disappear, but I just closed my eyes again for a little more sleep, it must have been about 5.00am. When I did get up, it was not much later and we discussed the intricacies of sleep. Andy said he got up once to go to the loo and found several ... read more

DAY 127 Scratch, Scratch, Scratch, we both sit up in bed hearing this sound and both exclaim “oh No, not those bl**dy Possums again”. I flicked the torch on as Andy jumped out of bed only to find a little pink snout lifting the tent flap and pressing up against the mosquito screen. Andy flicked it on the nose and it seemed to go away, however we could still hear the patter of feet and scratching in and around our house! Andy said its “3.00am, I am sick of this, why could they have not put a piece of Velcro all the way along the bottom of the flap? It would have saved us a few sleepless nights”. Andy got the two camping chairs and both were folded and laid across the back of the tent ... read more

DAY 126 Waking at around 8.00 this morning, Andy got out of bed and went to the camp kitchen to put the kettle on, I followed on with the breakfast things. It was lovely and quiet in the camp kitchen this morning. Andy got on with the blog, I made the breakfast, got some washing on the go, went and bought a few provisions. Lee turned up at some point and we agreed to do the boardwalk today from Dove Lake back to the Visitor Information Centre. We were all getting on with some chores this morning and needed to make sandwiches for lunch. I wondered if doing the same boardwalk that took me out a couple of weeks ago was a good idea, was Friday 13th going to be lucky or unlucky for me? In ... read more

DAY 125 We converged in the camp kitchen this morning; I was up only half an hour before Caroline and put the tea on. I just love my “quiet” time when I can have my cup of tea and write the blog. Caroline came in with the breakfast stuff and we sat and discussed this job opportunity we have been offered. We all know how we both think about both sides of the coin so I won’t bore you any further. Lee and Marilyn came in and we chatted for a while, we all decided to do the 8.5k board walk this morning, the one where Caroline went face diving!! 12.00 was our rendezvous, at our camp P4, so we set about getting sorted, having a shower so we didn’t freak the wildlife out and tidying ... read more

Day 124 We woke up at our free campsite to another beautiful morning, it was warm and the sun was strong. I got up and went to make tea, I asked Caroline if she wanted her first cup and she asked me what time it was, 7.20 I said, “give me another ten minutes!!” I sat outside at our table, piping hot tea steaming in the morning air, checking e-mails and uploading the blog for Kangaroo’s in bullet proof vests. We have had an e-mail from Vicki and Norm who have been reading our blog and are in the throws of planning their trip for six weeks in Tasmania. We had also had an email from Roz the daughter of Lionel and Janet who we first met at Singapore airport and then at their lovely beach ... read more

DAY 123 Please note: the contents of todays blog contains graphical details which have nothing to do with me, thanks. Caroline We both slept really well last night, but again we woke up to another bright warm and sunny morning, I got up first, taking our tea mugs etc to the camp kitchen, so that I could finish the blog off for An Elephant Ate My Pancakes, which we managed to upload and added the pictures to. A short while later Caroline joined me and we set about having tea and doing toast. Dam it the Marmite is nearly out, its 20 times better than Vegemite so we may need the red cross to fly us some in. When we went to pack up camp, I got talking to the guy next door who has a ... read more
