But when?
It seems that India should be on everyone's tick list sometime in the journey through life. 'Tis clear you are glad you path led you there. Makes me wonder when it will happen to us...or will it? Appears to be an enigmatic destination.

It happens when you are ready....
We have had a lot of respect before travelling through India for the first time. But we loved it from the very first second. Anyway, we think that we needed some other travel and life experiences before. You will go to India when you are ready for it. But we can highly recommend it. There are days when you hate it (especially when you hear and experience what happens to lots of women there) but most of the times you will just love it. An open mind, a love for all kind of people and a high level of tolerance to dirt and crowds is essential anyway...... Just try it step by step. Happy travels!

Passion for India
Some places seem as comfortable as home. Thrilled you've made some friends along the way. Glad you are happy and healthy again. Find balance brings peace. Always good to read another chapter in your adventures.

The balance
Oh yes, when everything is in balance, one is healthy. Thanks! We hope, you will also like our next blog from Mumbai. ;-)

Temple Architecture in Karnataka
Hi, I am glad that you enjoyed some beautiful places in Karnataka, and dwelt more on the positives than the negatives. I also appreciate ancient sculpture whether in India or overseas. I was born and brought up in Bengaluru but now live overseas. Over the last few years I also (re-) visited Somnathpur, Belur, Halebid, Shravanabelagola, Hampi, Badami, Aihole, Pattadakal etc and had a great time. I am pretty sure you will thoroughly enjoy Badami, AIhole, and Pattadakal as these are 6th century temples. Best to stay in Hampi or Hospet and visit these as day tours. You may check out my Flickr albums on these and other places if you wish by googling "halappa ashoka flickr" (I cannot put any links here)

Thank you
Thanks for your comment and the suggestions! Hampi and Badami is already on our list. But we have to postpone it for later. In the meantime we are back home. But in 1 or 2 years, we will be back. Happy travels to you!

Fabulous photo!
How lovely to find soul mates and to stay in their home! Maybe next time (and if I ever get there), stay with them and explore their peaceful area, then go wild and stay in the center for all those fancy spots in the center. You two certainly have explored many sides of India! And Nina, it seems your stomach problems have been healed--congratulations, and bring on those yummy dishes!

India has so many sides and it is amazing to explore them. If you can make it there one day - you should go! You will love it, we are sure. Well, my stomach is quite good for all that had happened. Still it will not be back to "normal" again. I will always have to take care and live with a certain risk. It is all about trust and faith. I truely want to be healthy and try to live a normal life. But I always have to take care what I eat (I am strictly vegetarian now, no raw food, no alcohol), this is part of my life. But if it stays like this, I am extremely happy :-). Thank you so much Tara!

Soulmates
It is true that sometimes you have to travel to the other side of the world to find your soulmate :-) Looks like you had a great time in this modern Indian city. Can't say I really knew much about Bangalore so good to know it's worth visiting if only to meet some lovely people. We're thinking of going to India some time this year also.so keep these blogs coming! :-)

Dear Anna, your plans sound great. Although travelling in India is like riding a rollercoaster we can highly recommend it. If you need any help while planning, feel free to contact us. ;-). Happy planning.

beautiful Nandi half way up Chamundi Hill

Such contrasts!
What a contrast between the peaceful little town of Melkote with curious, friendly people and space to breathe and meditate and the famous, crowded scene on Chamundi Hill! So wise you were to get off the beaten path and find a little bit of paradise in too-often crowded India. Marcus looks quite the expert at eating with his hands, and what a smart cow to munch on the offerings. So many sensual and spiritual delights!

This is India
India is full of these contrasts. That is why travelling there is so special. Yes, in the meantime we are really experts in eating with the hands ;-), although it was a mess in the beginning.

Chamundi Hill
We thought it was extra crowded because we visited on a pongal festival day, but it sounds like it is a very popular place all the time. We drove all the way up the hill, but now that I've seen your photos I wish we had walked up at least some of the steps.
23rd February 2015

Yes, that may be true. We think that most of the times it is really full up there. If you return one day, you should go up the steps. It is not so hard esp. when it is winter time and the heat is moderate. Happy travels!

Mysore
We ate at Parklane Restaurant too...and I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was for a touristy place. Thinking back to all the temples I've walked clockwise around, I've burnt karma without even know it ;)
9th February 2015

Oh yes, the food is not too bad for a touristy place. Just a bit more expensive. Keep walking around the temples ;-)....... Happy travels.

2015 starts a new...
We always hold our breath before opening the door to a place where we are staying. We don't require luxury but at this point in our life we want clean and a private bathroom. We really want working internet but don't always get it and it is not the hill to die on. We've experienced bedbugs and you were lucky to see them and get moved. But that hotel has a big problem because they will spread quickly to all the rooms. Glad you burned off some karma. I didn't realize that was a possibility.

Sacred places with special energy
I'm thrilled your health is better and you are exploring again. Has your illness impacted your need and desire to visit more spiritual places or would that have evolved naturally anyway? You look so happy sitting down to your vegan meal. We look forward to meeting you. I got a chuckle at your t-shirt idea. Thanks again for another great blog.
7th February 2015

Well, let's say that I realised through my illness that there is something else inthe world than career, party and travelling ;-). I got in touch with sprituality and met a very impressive person. It helped me during my healing time and I sometimes even feel better than before now. And the rest is pure curiosity :-). We are looking foward to meeting you as well!!!!!!!

The Shree Lodge experience is enough to make you consider making reservations in advance. That is the down side of how we travel, roaming with no real pre-planning. Most of the time it is perfect but there are days like this. Never underestimate the importance and joy clean sheets can provide. Enjoyed reading your impressions.
7th February 2015

reservations
oh yes, sometimes reservations are essential. But we have also experienced it the other way around. We had a reservation in a place and it turned out to be really awful. So we lost some money. But well, when it is over it is always a fun story.... ;-) and we will remember it for a long time.

Coorg
When you travel to India I know interesting stories are coming. You don't go to the places everyone else finds. The retreat sounds wonderful. Glad you are back on track. Keep the adventures coming.

Happy New Year!
So glad that you finally found a temple where you could have time and space to meditate quietly. A good sign for the new year.

Happy New year
Thank you. Hope you have also had a great start intolerant 2015. That it will be a year with lots of travels; -).
