Today we are travelling from London Gatwick to Dubai International (DXB) , United Arab Emirates aka UAE. The flight time was six hours and forty five minutes. We took off from London Gatwick in the day light and landed in evening darkness in Dubai. The UAE is three (3) hours ahead of UK and Tenerife time. The local currency is the United Arab Emirate Dirham aka AED. One Dirham is about £0.20 pence so around five Dirhams to the £1.00. The exchange rate has again been negatively impacted since Brexit. We have waited a whole year before we can once again travel on the excellent A380 Emirates double-decker plane. We had seats on the lower deck about halfway down the plane over the offside wing of this beast. When George stayed at the Premier Inn at ... read more

People often compliment us on the content and style in which we write our travel blog. Thank you for that. Here we go again with a month long travel blog. This year’s visit to Dubai and Abu Dhabi will see us doing some different things. Start of our journey today, we are travelling from Tenerife South Airport to London Gatwick with Easyjet. The Flight time was just under four hours. We like to be early for everything if we can, and are normally at the airport before the check-in opens. Today was different, as there was a slightly earlier EasyJet flight to ours, so we got checked in three hours before the flight. This is very comfortable for us. Our inbound flight into Tenerife was slightly delayed on its journey, which made us only thirty minutes ... read more

We are actually ready to go home now. Today we had our final early start. We are flying from London Gatwick home to Tenerife South. We were up and awake for 4.30am. Our EasyJet flight leaves at 7.30am, so we leave the hotel at about 5.30am. All our bags were checked inlast night, so it was straight through security and customs into the departure lounge. We have seen many international departure lounges over the last six weeks. The selection on offer here does not seem as comprehensive as we have seen in a lot of the other places on our route. We had food leftover from last night, so found a seat in the middle of the departure lounge and just bought coffees whilst we waiting for our flight to be called. Luckily, our plane was ... read more

When we stayed at Theresa´s sisters before our holiday we did quite a bit of shopping, then left two hefty 30kg holdalls with them whilst we went away. This morning we had to merge the shopping into the luggage we had brought home from our holiday. Luckily we had not bought very much whilst we had been away. But we still have six 20kg bags to go into the hold for our flight home. Not a problem for us. After a quick stop at the supermarket in Camberley to pick up supplies for tea tonight, we headed off to Gatwick Airport. Our rooms at the Premier Inn at the North Terminal were not ready when we got there so we had a quick coffee at the Costa Coffee shop in the hotel before heading off to ... read more

We had a bit of a disturbed night last night as the couple in the room above us got in about 1am and made lots of noise for about an hour. When we checked out, we mentioned this and they credited the cost of the hotel room. They do offer a good night sleep guarantee. George walked back to the Enterprise office we had found last night and collected the hire car then came back to the hotel and collected Theresa and all the luggage. First port of call is a local supermarket to get some drinks for the journey and a couple of further items that we need for taking back to Tenerife. Next we visited George´s newly discovered Cousin Cliff and his wife Mary. George´s Dad and Cliff´s Dad fell out many years ago, ... read more

Another early start this morning, but not as early as it could have been. Thankfully, yesterday, we managed to book all our luggage all the way to London, so only had our hand luggage with us overnight. This means we do not need to be at the airport quite as early as we are already effectively checked in. The boarding cards for this leg of the trip were issued to us yesterday in Malaysia. The flight yesterday meant we went four hours behind in time. Overnight, we seem to have managed this potential jet lag easily. With the boarding passes we got in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, Emirates also gave us a free meal voucher each to spend in Dubai International Airport. We managed to get a good free breakfast with this. Noticed whilst buying this that ... read more

Although they are neighbouring countries, Singapore and Malaysia are very different. Singapore has been greatly modernised, whereas Malaysia still has the Asia feel about it. Kuala Lumpur is undergoing a vast amount of building at the moment. They are apparently extending their metro system by thirty one stations. This will be great when it is finished, but is causing chaos whilst it is ongoing. The cost of living in Malaysia appears to be really cheap. Again, our hotel was in a great location so we had local restaurants nearby. The touristic areas were only a bus ride away. Kuala Lumpur runs a free bus service that runs in four loops. Most of the buses run every 5 – 10 minutes, and all looked to be very busy. But it was clean and the bus drivers were ... read more

Another early start this morning. We checked out of the hotel at 6am and our transfer, organised by the hotel, arrived shortly afterwards to take us to Kuala Lumpur International Airport. (KLIA) The journey to the airport took about an hour. We think we got a good deal with the transfer as it only cost us the equivalent of about £15.00. When we checked in at the airport, we were pleased when they advised that they could check in our bags all the way to Heathrow. We had hoped this would happen, so had packed our hand luggage accordingly. Most airlines allow this if your connecting flight is within the next 24 hours. Once we passed through security we checked our boarding cards, and were surprised to find that they had categorised our hop through Dubai ... read more

When we made all our original booking for the holiday, we booked for afternoon tea at Atmosphere 360 which is the revolving restaurant at the top of the Menara KL tower. It was booked for 3.20pm tomorrow, but as we leave early on Tuesday, we had a quick re-think and have changed the booking to High Tea instead today. We were going to be truly amazed on all counts with this. The Menara KL Tower was opened in 1996 and is 421 metres tall. It is the 7th tallest freestanding tower in the world. The observation deck is 276 meters above ground level. We grabbed a rare lay in and then left the hotel about 12.30 for the mile and half walk to the KL tower. The walk was a real test in the intense humidity. ... read more
