Early start today as our flight is due to leave Heathrow at 8.30am this morning. Got up at 4.00am and checked the BAA website to see if our flight is one scheduled to leave. Relieved to see it is. Got to the airport about 5.00am The airport was full of people that had been due to fly over the weekend but whose flights had been cancelled. They were checking all people entering the terminals. They had a list of flights that were confirmed as departing and if your flight was not on their list they would not let you into the terminal. As they did not make it to us yesterday, went to see Georges mum and his sister and her husband. The snow was still really thick, but we thought it was important to see them before we left for Tenerife for Christmas. Theresa brother and sister and their families came over for pre Christmas dinner today. It was nice to see everyone together as that does not happen that much. Theresa’s brother and his wife are interested in renting our house when we move out in March, as her brother leaves the Army at about the same time. It seems impossible that after years of planning, our retirement is now only 3 days away. We shall both be leaving our jobs on Friday 17 December. The selling of our house contents is going well, but is now on hold as we are to be away from the house for an extended period. We have recently given notice on our rented house and must now be out by 23 March 2011. Off to Tenerife on Tusday 21st December for two weeks for Christmas and New Year celebrations returning on 4 January 2011. Then off to USA on 11 January for a week in New York followed by a train journey to Dallas where we will be staying with friends for another week.
